What TRTCLE is

TRTCLE is a continuing legal education (CLE) provider for practicing attorneys. It sells courses in three formats, online self-paced courses, teleconferences and webcasts, and live lectures, and filters them by the jurisdiction where the attorney is licensed. Its header reads "celebrating 36 years in legal education", and the home page sums up the offer as "TRTCLE helps you bridge your legal education & career with state compliant online courses, teleconferences, and live lectures." The company behind it is TRTCLE, Corp.

For the learner, this is a CLE catalog and account rather than a course-building tool. An attorney picks a state, sees the approved courses for it, buys single courses, a bundle or an unlimited plan, and collects certificates in their account.

Finding courses for your state

The home page opens with a search that pairs an offer with a jurisdiction: the visitor completes "I'm looking for" with Online Courses, Teleconferences / Webcasts, Live Lectures, Bridge the Gap, CLE Bundles or Unlimited CLE, then picks a state. The state selector runs from Alabama to Wyoming and also includes the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico, as well as British Columbia, New Brunswick and Ontario. A separate "Earn CLE Credit for Your State" section links to state pages such as New York CLE, California CLE and Texas CLE. Under the heading "Approved Courses for Every State", the site says "No matter where you practice, our courses can help you satisfy your CLE credits."

The selector also has an entry called TRT. The online course page explains it with "Not licensed in Select State? Select TRT as your state from the CLE State." The site also keeps CLE Requirements and State Requirements pages for attorneys checking what their jurisdiction asks of them.

The three formats

Online Courses. "Work at your own pace from the comfort of your home," the page says. "Our high quality continuing legal education online courses allow you the flexibility to work where you want, when you want." The online catalog page adds that the courses help attorneys meet requirements "in a quick and cost-efficient manner." Video quality gets its own section, promising "crystal-clear audio and video so you never have to miss a single word."

Teleconferences / Webcasts. These are presented as a "catalog of high quality attorney CLE teleconferences" where attorneys "Learn directly from top legal professionals." The page adds a useful note for states with live-credit rules: "If your state has a live credit requirement, check and see if our teleconferences can fulfill it."

Live Lectures. The site calls its live courses "engaging and thought-provoking for attorneys of all practice areas." A section headed "Daily Lectures Across the Nation" points to "our comprehensive schedule of live and online courses."

The format menu also lists Bridge the Gap as a fourth course type alongside the three.

The site says its content can be reached "from the web, mobile devices, and even iPads. Anytime, anywhere."

The online catalog and its filters

The Online CLE page lists every online course available for the chosen state and narrows it with four filters: CLE State, Practice Area, Credit Type and Instructor. The practice-area filter starts with Abuse Reporting, Access to Justice, Administrative, Admiralty & Maritime, Advertising, Alternative Dispute Resolution, American Indian and Animal, then a "More +92" link to the rest. The instructor filter shows names such as Abam Mambo, Esq., Abigail J. Remore, Esq. and Adam Chodos, Esq., CPA, then "More +472". Results sort by title, most viewed or most recent.

That instructor filter lets an attorney who liked one presenter find the rest of that presenter's courses.

Faculty

TRTCLE leans on its faculty. The home page says "Our faculty of over 230 lawyers from around the country features some of the top legal minds in areas of ethics, corporate law, trial law, intellectual property, criminal law, real estate law, and more." There is a Browse Faculty link to the full roster, and a Join Our Faculty link for lawyers who want to teach.

Bundles, unlimited access and certificates

Beyond single courses, TRTCLE sells two packaged options. The home page frames them with "We offer a variety of bundles to help you satisfy your learning requirement and save money on continuing legal education."

  • CLE Bundles group, in the site's words, "the most popular courses in each state with your individual CLE credit requirements in mind." For an attorney who would otherwise assemble a state's credit mix course by course, a bundle is the shortcut.
  • Unlimited CLE gives "unlimited access to the entirety of our online course database" so an attorney can "earn as many credits as you desire."

Certificates come fast. Under "Instant Certification", the site promises: "Receive your course certification within minutes of completing a course." The account area keeps the paperwork together, with menu entries for My Certificates, My Courses, My Subscription, My Passport and Order History.

The home page and the Online CLE page show no course, bundle or Unlimited CLE prices. The site also has Financial Aid and Teams pages, and its mailing list promises notices of "upcoming deadlines, changes to your CLE requirement, flash sales and more!"

Support

Help comes by phone at 888-397-6399, which appears in the header and footer, by email at info@trtcle.com, and through a Contact Us page, an FAQ and a blog.

What attorneys say

The home page carries several testimonials. Chris Paul of McAfee & Taft writes: "Yet again, CLE delivered with Excellence - Efficient, Interesting, and Valuable." Sherry Thompson, Esq., of Lebanon, PA, writes: "Always illuminating, thought-provoking and enjoyable. Yes, this is CLE as it should be." Thomas A. Mars, listed with Walmart U.S., says: "Today's session was the most interesting ethics session I can remember. Thank you for making a two-hour session fly by like it was an hour." Melissa from Philadelphia adds: "I would be lost without TRTCLE. I have been taking their courses for over 15 years."

Who it suits

TRTCLE suits attorneys who want to meet a state CLE requirement from one account, with the choice of self-paced online courses, scheduled teleconferences and webcasts, or live lectures. Lawyers licensed in a jurisdiction on its selector can filter straight to approved courses, and the state bundles save them assembling a credit mix by hand. Attorneys who take far more CLE than the minimum, or who want to explore other practice areas, are the natural buyers of Unlimited CLE. The large instructor list suits lawyers who choose courses by presenter. An attorney in a jurisdiction that is not on the selector should check the TRT option and the State Requirements page first.
