Pri-Med
Tap a star to rate
Pri-Med is a continuing medical education provider for primary care: physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who need CME or CE credit for license renewal and board certification. It is a learner product, a mix of free on-demand courses, paid curricula and live conferences. Its tagline is "The Primary Source for Primary Care", and the physician page calls Pri-Med "a leader in physician CME since 1995". The site gives several measures of its reach. It calls itself "the trusted source for over 180,000 U.S. clinicians", says its audience of 160,000+ primary care clinicians was built on high-quality and accessible CME, invites visitors to join more than 168,000 actively practicing clinicians, and says it has educated more than 190,000 healthcare professionals. The copyright line names DBC Pri-Med.
What the catalog covers
The home page offers a choice of "400+ CME/CE courses, available on demand and live at virtual and in-person conferences", and the physician page speaks of hundreds of online physician CME courses across 50 therapeutic areas. The topic menu features cultural competency, geriatrics, infectious diseases, orthopedics, pain management and pharmacology, with a full topic list behind it. The physician page says the courses reflect a typical day in primary care practice: pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and medical decision-making, plus practice-changing updates such as office procedures and primary care practice management. It adds that the team continuously reviews the medical literature for the latest knowledge and practice-changing updates.
Nurse practitioners are served directly. The same free account opens CE courses tailored to primary care NPs, in pharmacology, pain management, geriatrics, preventive care, pediatrics, cardiology, behavioral health and population health, and the credit menu carries AANP and AANP Pharmacology credit alongside the physician credits. A trending menu points to state requirements, weekly podcasts, menopause, bootcamps, packages and the DEA MATE Act.
Formats
Pri-Med delivers its education in several ways, and a clinician can mix them.
On-demand CME/CE is the core. The home page says a clinician can "Watch videos, listen to podcasts, explore interactive learning modules, and more", whenever and wherever it suits. Podcasts run weekly, and a clinical resources section adds webcasts and a blog. The home page's Trending Now shelf is labeled accredited on-demand CME/CE, so what trends is credit-bearing.
Virtual conferences bring clinician-educators online with timely medical updates, and PrimaryCareNOW and CardiologyNOW are the featured events; the physician page keeps its own list of upcoming virtual conferences for physicians. In-person conferences are described as affordable meetings in convenient locations across the US, with the latest clinical insights, primary care peers and world-renowned faculty in one room. The city menu lists Anaheim, Atlanta, Charleston, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Irving, Nashville, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Providence, Rosemont, Tampa and Washington D.C. The home page sums up the choice as learning "in your area, a destination, or at home."
Bootcamps are on-demand curricula that give primary care clinicians a deep dive into the topics they deal with most. Enrollment promises on-demand flexibility, courses led by expert clinical educators, and interactive modules. The featured bootcamps are an NP and PA bootcamp, now in its second edition, a Mental Health bootcamp and a Cardiology bootcamp, with a full bootcamp library behind them. Packages, marked new in the menu, are bundles sold through the site's cart.
A separate area called Clinician's Corner holds what the site labels "Non-accredited and industry-sponsored resources", kept apart from the accredited on-demand CME/CE.
Credits and accreditation
The credit type menu lists AMA, ABIM MOC, AAFP, AANP and AANP Pharmacology. The physician page says its CME courses offer AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and ABIM Medical Knowledge MOC Points to help fulfill state and board requirements. Answering the question of who accredits its physician CME, it says Pri-Med Institute offers activities with nationally recognized credits accepted for physician licensure and board certification maintenance, including AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, and describes them as "CME certified through ACCME-accredited providers and accepted by state medical boards and major specialty certification bodies toward physician license renewal and board recertification requirements."
Pri-Med provides certificates of completion for all CME/CE activities, which the page says let physicians document credits for licensure and certification reporting. It also explains why this matters: CME is required for both state license renewal and board certification maintenance, and many medical boards and certifying organizations require a defined number of CME credits within a specified timeframe.
Free and paid
The free side is the main draw. The physician page answers the question of whether its courses are free with "Yes, Pri-Med offers free physician CME courses online. You just need to create an account to begin." The site says creating the account takes less than 60 seconds, after which a clinician can start earning CME credits and ABIM MOC points. The home page calls the whole offer "Affordable, accessible, virtual and in-person CME/CE for primary care clinicians."
The paid options, the physician page says, are offered without industry support: in-person conferences, bootcamps, seminars and packages, for clinicians who want more in-depth or specialized education. These pages show no prices for them.
Tracking and the account
The personalized credit tracker records and tracks credits, and the physician page says it keeps a record of credits earned from Pri-Med and from other approved providers. Members can also bookmark courses for later and get personalized course recommendations. The site describes an all-inclusive community that connects clinicians to experts from renowned institutions, and says its education is refreshed annually and tailored to the learner's needs.
Pri-Med also runs a sponsor side, with pages for organizations that want to become a sponsor or a CME/CE partner, and an exhibitor area for its conferences.
Who it suits
Pri-Med suits a primary care physician, NP or PA who wants a steady supply of free, credit-bearing CME and is happy to sign up for an account to get it. Clinicians who need AMA PRA Category 1 credit, ABIM MOC points or AANP credit can find them under one login, and the tracker suits anyone collecting credits from several providers in one renewal cycle. The paid bootcamps suit a clinician who wants a structured deep dive in mental health, cardiology or the NP and PA curriculum, and the conferences suit those who learn best live, either online or in one of the listed cities. Specialists outside primary care will find less here, since the catalog is built around the primary care day.
