What National Healthcare Institute is
National Healthcare Institute (NHI) is an online continuing education provider for nurses and other healthcare professionals, based in Coral Gables, Florida. Its home page is titled "Continuing Education for Nurses and Medics" and leads with a single promise: "Get Your Nursing CE Fast & Approved." Directly under it sit the four claims the business is built on: "Instant Certificate," "State-Approved," "Automatic CE Broker Submission" and "Licensed in: FL, GA, SC, CA, & DC." A second line, "Your Next Nursing License Renewal Starts Here," makes the use case clear. NHI is where a nurse goes to buy the hours a state board requires, finish them online and get the record filed.
The welcome note on the home page is signed by the president, Felix F. Lahmann, MSN, CRNA, ARNP. It says NHI is "committed to providing you with quality continuing education courses," that its faculty "is experienced and currently active in both clinical practice and teaching," and that the courses therefore "reflect both current healthcare trends and the needs of the communities we serve." The note adds that NHI keeps adding new courses for healthcare professionals at all practicing levels, and several featured courses carry a "New" tag.
The catalog
The course catalog lists 54 items in total. The category counts in the sidebar break that down into Nursing CE Courses (38), CE Course Bundles (7) and Medical CME Courses (5); an Inservice Courses category exists but shows no items yet.
Nursing CE is organized by specialty, and the menu is detailed: advanced nursing practice, critical care nursing, disaster and terrorism management, emergency nursing, ethics, legal and advocacy, infection control and community nursing, gerontology, leadership and management, nursing sciences, nursing skills and procedures, pediatric nursing, perioperative nursing, pharmacology, and psychiatric and mental health. Medical-surgical nursing has its own subsections for cardiovascular, dermatology, oncology, endocrine, respiratory, neurology and gastroenterology. A "Teaching and Preceptorship" category serves nurses who train others.
The most useful part for a nurse facing renewal is the "State-Required Courses" section, split into Florida, Iowa, South Carolina and Georgia required courses. Florida gets the most attention in the featured list, with courses named for Florida nurses on HIV/AIDS, recognizing impairment in the workplace, laws and rules, and prevention of domestic violence, alongside "Prevention of Medical Errors for Nurses."
Several titles are written for long-term care. The two Alzheimer's disease programs are addressed to nursing home, hospice and adult day care staff, and a separate course covers communicating condition change in long-term care patients, which makes the catalog relevant to nurses who work in those settings.
Prices
Every course shows its price in the catalog. Individual courses on the first catalog page and the home page are priced from $4.95 to $19.95. Some examples:
- "Documentation for Nurses: A Basic Guide to Avoid Litigation," $4.95
- "Providing Competent Care for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Patients," $4.95
- "Dealing with Asthma," $4.95, and "Demystifying COPD," $6.95
- "HIV/AIDS Update for Florida Nurses," $4.95
- "Zika Virus Disease: A Guide to Diagnosing, Treating and Preventing," $4.95
- "Communicating Condition Change in Long-Term Care Patients," $9.95
- "Diagnosis and Clinical Implications of Cocaine Use Disorder," $9.95

- "Alzheimer's Disease: An In-depth Educational Program for Nursing Home, Hospice and Adult Day Care Staff," $12.95, with a shorter version of the same program at $4.95
- "ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," $15.00
- "Bioterrorism Preparedness for Healthcare Professionals," $19.95
The catalog also carries a research-based course, "Association between fatty acid metabolism in the brain and Alzheimer disease neuropathology and cognitive performance," at $12.95, which shows the range runs from compliance topics to research reading.
State bundles
Bundles are aimed at the nurse who wants one purchase to cover a renewal. Four state bundles are listed with prices:
- "Complete Florida Nursing CEU Bundle Including Mandatory Courses," $26.00
- "Complete Georgia CE Bundle for Nurses," $19.95
- "Complete Georgia Registered Nurse CE Bundle," $21.95
- "Complete South Carolina Nursing CE Bundle," $21.95
Each bundle shows "View Details" and "Options" buttons rather than a plain "Add to Cart." The Florida bundle's title states that the mandatory courses are included. With seven bundles in the category, the four state packages above are the ones the site features.
Certificates and reporting
The home page lists the two things that save a nurse time after finishing a course: an instant certificate and automatic submission to CE Broker. For a nurse in a state that tracks CE through CE Broker, that means the completion is recorded without a separate upload. The licensing line, FL, GA, SC, CA and DC, tells a buyer where NHI is licensed, and a "Requirements by State/Board" page in the account menu is there for checking what a given board wants. The main menu also has a "CE Accreditation" page, and the banner calls the courses "State-Approved."
Beyond CE: certification programs and reviews
NHI is not only a renewal shop. A "CE Certification" menu leads to "Healthcare Certificate Programs" and "Nursing & Medical Certification Reviews," and the home page links straight to "Certification Reviews" next to CE courses, medical CME and CE bundles. That gives a nurse preparing for a certification exam and a nurse renewing a license the same place to shop.
Using the site
The store works like a standard online shop: search across all categories, sort by name or price, open a "Quick View" summary, and add courses to a cart. After purchase, a "Classroom Access" link takes learners to their courses, and "My Account" holds their records.
Support runs by email to support@nhinstitute.com, and the footer lists the Coral Gables, FL 33134 location. The support menu links to a Nursing Resource Hub, frequently asked questions, a contact page and a "Cancellation and Refund" page. An accessibility page, an "About the Faculty" page and an employment page are also linked.
Who it suits
NHI suits nurses who renew in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, California or the District of Columbia and want cheap, clearly priced courses with an instant certificate and CE Broker reporting. The state-required sections and the Florida, Georgia and South Carolina bundles make it quick to cover a mandate in one purchase, and individual courses at $4.95 to $9.95 let a nurse fill a small gap without paying for a package. Nurses studying for a certification exam can use the review section. The catalog is focused on nursing, with a smaller set of medical CME courses, so other professions will find less here.
