Insurance Career Training

Insurance Career Training, Inc. is an insurance school that teaches online by live webinar. It sells two things through one site. The first is EXAM PREP LIVE, a pre-licensing program for people preparing for a state insurance license exam or a FINRA exam. The second is a schedule of webinar CE courses for licensed agents who need continuing education hours to keep a license active. The site's footer gives the school's location as 14701 Cumberland Rd, Suite 180, in Noblesville, Indiana.

For the reader, this is a learner product: you buy a seat in a scheduled class, study the material that comes with it, and attend with a professional instructor online. There is nothing here for course creators or training departments to build on; it is a school with a timetable.

EXAM PREP LIVE

The exam prep program is the centerpiece of the page. The site describes it this way: "EXAM PREP LIVE® combines the convenience and flexibility of a self- study program with the benefits of live instruction from a professional instructor." In practice that means two parts.

The first part is self-study. On enrolling, the learner receives what the site calls "a complete, state-approved pre-licensing curriculum from the award-winning ExamFX® series of exam-prep study materials." Insurance Career Training does not write this curriculum itself; it comes from ExamFX, and the school adds the live teaching around it.

The second part is a scheduled review class. The site says each learner "will be scheduled for a two-day, comprehensive exam review webinar with a professional instructor, where major topic areas will be reviewed in detail." That is the part that sets the program apart from a pure self-study course: two full days with an instructor who walks through the main topic areas of the exam.

The site lists three programs under the EXAM PREP LIVE banner:

  • Life, Accident & Health Program
  • Property & Casualty Program
  • Series 6 & 63 Review Program

The first two lead to state insurance licenses, and the third prepares learners for securities exams. The bullet points beside them repeat the essentials: a self-study exam prep program with a 2-day review webinar, a professional instructor, and a complete online study package and exam simulator included.

What the study package contains

The page is specific about the package. "Upon your order, we will provide you a link to your comprehensive self-study package for your insurance or securities license exam study." It includes "a complete online study package, including review questions for each course topic, and an online Exam Simulator® to practice and prepare for your test." Elsewhere the site sums it up as "All courses include study guide & online exam simulator."

There is one more step for insurance candidates. "For insurance courses, following your webinar, ExamFX® will provide you with a certificate to sit for your exam (if required by your state)." The certificate comes from ExamFX after the review webinar, and only where the learner's state requires one.

Class times and equipment

The review webinars run on a fixed daily schedule, which the site prints in four US time zones: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. MT, and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT. It is one class shown in each zone, so a learner on the West Coast starts at 6 in the morning.

The equipment list is short. "A computer with speakers and Internet is all that is required!" The site also says mobile devices are supported, naming iPhone, iPad and Android, so the study material can go along on a phone or tablet.

Price and the pass guarantee

The price is printed plainly: "$229 PER COURSE." That covers the program as described, with the study package and the scheduled review webinar.

The page backs it with a guarantee under the heading Pass Your Exam or Return to Class Free: "If you do not pass your state insurance license exam or FINRA® exam on your first attempt, you may return to class at no additional charge for up to six months from the start date of your original course!" The guarantee is a free return to the class, not a refund, and the clock starts from the start date of the original course rather than from the exam.

Webinar CE courses for licensed agents

The same page carries the school's continuing education schedule for agents who already hold a license. The ordering steps are listed at the top: review your state's CE requirements, "Click the green enroll button on each class you wish to take to add it to your shopping cart," and then check out. "CE Hours will be totaled in the cart and discounts will be automatically applied."

Each class is color-coded by curriculum, with the categories Life/Health, General, Ethics, Property/Casualty and State Regulation. The site states that "All courses listed below are approved by your state, regardless of your license type." The course table shows the date, title, CE hours, price, time and category of each class, and dropdown filters let an agent "select and display upcoming courses based on course category, title, number of CE hours, or day/time of week offered." Upcoming courses are listed soonest to latest, and the full schedule can be downloaded or printed as a PDF list of classes. Clicking any course title opens its description.

Volume pricing rewards agents who buy several classes at once: "Buy More, Save More! 10% off 10+ CE hours | 20% off 20+ CE hours | 30% off 24+ CE hours." Because the cart totals the hours itself, the discount is applied automatically at checkout.

Support and services

The site's menu covers the practical side of attending a live class: ordering webinar CE courses, rescheduling or canceling classes, class handouts, course descriptions, help and tech support, FAQs, a Meet Our Staff page and a list of CE events. Support is by phone at 317-863-0044 or 866-571-4515 (toll-free) and by email at customerservice@ictinsuranceschool.com. The footer also links About Us, Testimonials and Career Opportunities.

Who it suits

Insurance Career Training suits people heading into a state life and health or property and casualty license exam who want more than a self-study course: the ExamFX material to work through on their own, plus two full days with an instructor before the exam, with the option to come back free within six months if the first attempt fails. Securities candidates get the same model through the Series 6 & 63 Review Program. Licensed agents can use the webinar CE schedule to collect their renewal hours in live online classes, filtered by category and time, with a discount that grows with the hours bought.

The trade-off is the schedule. Classes run at set times, all day, so a learner has to clear two working days for the exam review and book CE classes around their calendar. Someone who wants to do everything at their own pace on a phone at midnight will find the live format asks more of them, and that is the point of it.
