What it is

CE Online Training Courses sells continuing education for beauty professionals as short video courses. Its home page calls it "Your State Approved Online Continuing Education Provider" and invites visitors to "Get your Online CEU with our Video Courses!" The site is organized by state, with sections for Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Washington DC, plus an Other option, and by license type: cosmetologist, esthetician, nail technician, instructor, barber, owner/manager and other.

The pitch is convenience. "Don't put an entire day of your life on hold to drive to a class," says the home page, and it claims the cost comes to "less than a tank of gas to drive to a class." The About page, signed by Jayson Lacy, says that through video "you will have the benefit of being on the front row every time," and that every class "will deliver quality training that you will take back to work with you." The home page adds a promise: "We promise to never bore you with unnecessary information or reading." The company lists its address as 228 West Avenue, North Augusta, SC, with an email address and a phone number in the footer.

How it works

The site describes the process in a few lines: "Simply click on your state and choose the classes that interest you. You will then watch video classes." The home page says "All of our classes are approved by the State Board", and its course filter separates three kinds of course: Approved CE Courses, Advanced Training Courses (Not CE) and State Board Prep Courses (not CE). Learners filter by state and license type and add courses to the cart.

There is no need to finish in one sitting. "You can start now and finish later. The videos are saved and you can simply pick up right where you left off," says the home page, and the FAQ for several states repeats that learners can come back as many times as they need. For most states the certificate is printed from the learner's profile once the course is done, kept as proof, and a copy goes with the renewal application. The Help page has one technical tip: if a video freezes, switch to another browser such as Firefox, Safari or Chrome.

Courses and prices

Prices are per course, shown on the course listings. The general catalog runs to 4 pages; the first page shows the 2026-27 approved CE courses:

  • TCSG Health and Safety, 3 hours, $29
  • Elegant Up-Styles, 2 hours, $49
  • Fearless Men's Barbering, Beard Shaping and Women's Haircutting, 2 hours, $39
  • a 2-hour color correction course, $39
  • Luxurious Acrylic Nails, 2 hours, $49
  • Skincare Building Blocks, 2 hours, $49
  • Human Trafficking Awareness, 2 hours, $49
  • Domestic Violence Awareness, 2 hours, $49
  • Gel Nails West Coast Style, 2 hours, $39

State pages package courses to fit local rules. Texas offers 3 approved 4-hour bundles at $59 each, combining Health and Safety and Human Trafficking Awareness with either Expert Haircutting, Luxurious Acrylic Nails or Skincare Building Blocks. Ohio has one approved 3-hour course, Ohio-EAP, Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Awareness, at $49. Both state pages also list advanced training courses marked Not CE at $25 each: Elegant Up-Styles, Skincare Building Blocks, Luxurious Spa Pedicure, Amazing Women's Haircutting & Mens Barbering, and Luxurious Acrylic Nails. Those are skill courses for professionals who want the technique without needing the hours.

State requirements, as the FAQ explains them

The Help page is the most useful part of the site, because it sets out each state's rules in plain terms.

Georgia. 5 hours of CE during a 2-year license period, all of it possible online; instructors need 15 hours, of which 7.5 may be taken online. Education must be completed before the license expires.

Illinois. Cosmetologists, instructors and barbers need 14 hours; estheticians, nail technicians and hair braiders need 10. Cosmetologist, instructor and esthetician licenses expire on September 30 of odd years, barber licenses on July 31 of odd years, and hair braider and nail technician licenses on October 31 of even years. The FAQ says Illinois now allows all of it to be done online.

North Carolina. 24 hours during a 3-year license period; instructor licenses run for 2 years and need 16 hours. There is no minimum number of hours per order, and the certificate covers the total hours of the courses taken.

Ohio. 4 hours in total: 3 from an Ohio board-approved provider, which the FAQ says CE Online Training Courses is, and 1 hour on laws and rules delivered free by the Ohio cosmetology and barber board through the CE Broker website. All 4 can be done online.

South Carolina. 4 hours during a 2-year license period, all online. Licensees renew by 11:59 p.m. on March 9th of every odd-numbered year, and those in their first licensing period need no CE. The process differs here: the University of South Carolina mails a certificate within 2 to 3 weeks and sends the hours to LLR, and the certificate must be kept for no less than 4 years. Professionals transferring a license to South Carolina take any board-approved 4-hour course and use the mailed certificate as proof.

Texas. 4 hours with an approved TDLR provider, completed in time to renew by the expiration date every 2 years.

Washington DC. 6 hours during the license period. The FAQ adds that a professional whose license has expired has 60 days to complete the hours, with a late fee assessed by the board, and may need to apply for reinstatement after that.

What learners say

The home page quotes two learners. Kayla of San Clemente, CA: "I enjoyed learning the hair extension video the most. It's always nice to learn something new." James of N. Charleston, SC: "Nice to be able to go at my own pace and have something up close to view. Not all crammed into one day from an outdated teacher in an uncomfortable hotel meeting room or hair school." A link leads to more testimonials.

The site also runs a blog and a newsletter, which promises client retention tips, notice of new courses and other helpful information, with unsubscribe at any time.

Who it suits and who it does not

CE Online Training Courses suits cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians, nail technicians, instructors and salon owners or managers in its listed states who want to finish their renewal hours at home, in short sittings, for a modest price per course. The state FAQ is a practical bonus: it answers the hours and deadline questions that send many licensees hunting through board websites. The Not CE technique courses at $25 are a cheap way to pick up a skill such as acrylic nails or up-styles.

The trade-offs are those of a small video catalog. Learning is by recorded video, so anyone who wants a live instructor or hands-on practice will not find it here. The approved course list is short, and in Texas and Ohio the approved choice comes as fixed bundles. And South Carolina licensees, whose certificates come by mail from the university within 2 to 3 weeks, need to leave time for that before the March deadline.
