What it is
The ASHP Learning Center is the online education site of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, whose address is in Bethesda, MD. It serves pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, residents, students, preceptors and technician educators who need continuing education or want to keep up with health-system pharmacy practice. The home page offers three things: My Activities, to "Start or resume your learning activities"; Explore Catalog, to "Browse a library of education and CE"; and Redeem a Code, to "Process your webinar or enrollment code". The site has a log in and registration area, a shopping cart, and links to ASHP.org and the ASHP Store.
The page most useful to a learner on a budget is the free catalog, headed "Browse a wide range of CE and educational activities at no cost". It lists 244 activities, which can be sorted by newest or by title and shown 10, 25 or 50 to a page.
Formats
Free activities come in two catalog categories, Online Program and Podcast. Some of the online programs are webinars: the antithrombotic stewardship activity describes itself as a webinar, and a live webinar on vaccine confidence is set for October 13, 2026. That session, "Take Your Best Shot", is described as a "1.0-hour online educational activity" that "reviews evidence-based strategies for addressing vaccine hesitancy and best practices for patient communication". The Redeem a Code feature takes a webinar or enrollment code, and My Activities keeps what a learner has started so they can pick it up again.
Each listing shows its category, a Member price and a Non-Member price, then the title, a short description and, for most activities, a set of topic tags.
Who can take what for free
Every activity on the first page of the free list is free for ASHP members, but not always for everyone else, because each one shows two prices. Of those ten, three read Free for both: the RFID technology program, the live vaccine confidence webinar and the 2026 government relations update are open to non-members at no cost. The other seven show Free for members and "N/A" for non-members, so on this list they are free to members only: the antithrombotic stewardship webinar, the ketamine, hepatitis B, pharmacist billing and GLP-1 podcasts, the AI drug discovery program and the Idaho standard of care program. A non-member pharmacist can still find free CE here, but should read the Non-Member line before planning around a particular activity. Prices for activities outside the free list do not appear on the free catalog or the home page.
What the catalog covers
The free activities on the first page give a good sense of range:
- "Tagged for Success: Impactful Applications and Future Opportunities of RFID Technology", a 1.5-hour program on current and unique uses of RFID technology, new ways to support RFID solutions, getting stakeholder buy-in and future uses in healthcare, tagged for pharmacy administration, informatics and technology, and pharmacy technicians.
- "The Clot Thickens: A Pharmacists Guide to Antithrombotic Stewardship", a webinar giving "an overview of antithrombotic stewardship programs including key elements of program development and implementation."
- "IV Ketamine in Pain Management Across Acute Care Settings", a CE podcast on intravenous ketamine in the perioperative setting, emergency medicine and palliative care.
- "Vaccine Preventable Diseases: Hepatitis B Virus", a podcast built on the point that pharmacists, "As one of the most accessible healthcare providers", can address vaccine hesitancy, find gaps in immunization status and improve access to vaccines in their communities.
- "No Claim, No Gain: Direct Contracting for Pharmacist Billing", a podcast on "payor contracting strategies utilized in a variety of practice sites."
- "GLP Practice Insights: GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Muscle Loss", a brief review of the evidence on lean mass changes with GLP-1 receptor agonist use, with counseling tips on preventing muscle loss.
- "The In Silico Scientist", on emerging uses of AI in drug lead generation, PBPK modeling, precision medicine, clinical trial design and regulatory evaluation.
- "Adopting a Standard of Care Framework for Pharmacy Practice: Insights from Idaho", on developments shaping pharmacy practice, with firsthand insight into implementing a standard of care model, tagged for ambulatory care, law and pharmacy technicians.
- "ASHP Government Relations Update: 2026", on the political, regulatory and legislative developments shaping health-system pharmacy practice.
The mix runs from clinical pharmacotherapy to the business and policy side of the profession: billing and payer contracts, legislation, technology and practice models sit next to anticoagulation and pain management.
Topic tags
Activities carry topic tags that work as filters. A numbered series of topic tags covers disease state management and drug therapy (01), law (03), pharmacy administration (04), patient safety (05), immunizations (06), compounding (07) and pain management (08); the vaccine confidence webinar, for example, is tagged "acpe topic 06 (immunizations)". There is also an ACCME tag.
Practice tags cover acute and critical care, ambulatory care, anticoagulation, antimicrobial stewardship, artificial intelligence, cardiology, cardiovascular and pulmonary care, clinical pharmacy practice, controlled substances and diversion, diabetes and endocrine, emergency medicine, emergency preparedness, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology, infection prevention, infectious diseases, medication administration, MTM/CMM, neurology, nutrition and TPN, oncology, patient care, pediatrics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacotherapy, psychiatry, public health, solid organ transplant, specialty pharmacy, substance use disorders and women's health.
Another group of tags is about careers and audiences rather than clinical topics: career and professional development, leadership and management, informatics and technology, Pharmacy Technology, quality assurance, pharmacy education, preceptors, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, Pharmacy Technician Educators, pharmacy technicians, REPS, and Wellbeing and Resilience. That spread means a technician, a preceptor or a pharmacy manager can each filter down to material written for their role.
Support
The Learning Center has a Contact Us & FAQ page, published system requirements and a user agreement.
Who it suits
The ASHP Learning Center suits pharmacists in health-system practice who want CE that tracks current practice, from antithrombotic stewardship and IV ketamine to GLP-1 counseling and vaccine conversations, and who like learning by podcast or webinar as well as online programs. ASHP members get the most from it, since every activity on the first page of the free list is free to them. Pharmacy technicians, technician educators, preceptors, residents and students each have their own tags to filter by, and pharmacy leaders will find administration, billing, legislation and technology topics alongside clinical ones.
Non-members can use it too, but the free label applies to them only where the Non-Member price also reads Free, so a non-member should expect a smaller free selection. Learners looking for long, structured programs will find the free list built from single activities, online programs, podcasts and webinars, with the two stated lengths at 1.0 and 1.5 hours.
