OctoProctor is a browser-based online proctoring platform for universities, certification bodies, corporate training teams and testing platforms, published by ProctorEdu, Inc. It offers three monitoring models (automated, AI and live, which can be combined into a hybrid) and runs inside the LMS or test engine an organization already uses, with no app, plugin or extension for the test-taker. Its industries menu shows how broad the use is: alcohol server exams, drone licenses, entrance exams, corporate certification, HR training, pre-employment testing, professional certification, higher education, language exams, olympiads and test platforms. For readers of the assessment tools category, OctoProctor adds identity checks, browser control and recorded evidence to the quizzes and exams built in Moodle, Canvas, Google Forms or a custom test engine, and it can deliver SCORM exams itself.
What you get
Three proctoring models. Auto proctoring applies configurable rules, such as flagging a switch of tabs, for consistent monitoring of high-volume assessments. AI proctoring acts, in the company's words, as "a trained unbiased proctor during a virtual exam without invading the personal space of test takers." Live proctoring puts a human proctor on the session, supported by behavioral metrics and a post-exam credibility report; the Canvas FAQ describes it as "Real-time supervision by trained proctors." OctoProctor's advice is that AI or automated proctoring suits large on-demand exams, while live proctoring fits high-stakes exams where real-time oversight is essential.
Named feature modules. The features page breaks the product into five parts:
- OctoGuard detects AI interview assistants, second-device cheating, browser manipulation and identity fraud, across online exams, certification programs and coding interviews.
- OctoLite is lighter participation monitoring for online training: it verifies identity, attendance and continuous presence, with audit-ready evidence for compliance, workforce training and continuing education.
- OctoLock is a built-in alternative to a lockdown browser. Institutions can restrict unauthorized tabs, extensions, virtual machines and cameras without a separate install.
- OctoGeo handles data residency. By default data sits in AWS in Ireland, and OctoProctor will launch a cloud instance in another region on request and handle the setup.
- OctoPlay is a built-in SCORM player, so SCORM exams run inside the proctoring environment, from content upload and launch to session monitoring, access control and post-exam reporting.
Built for weak connections and any device. The homepage says the system needs as little as 256 kbps and automatically recovers sessions after a temporary loss of connectivity; the Sakai FAQ adds that all activity is logged and timestamped. It supports iOS and Android, and candidates can use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera or Safe Exam Browser. Each session starts with an equipment check.
Evidence for reviewers. Proctored exams come with secure video recordings, behavior alerts and flagged incidents, session audit logs for internal reviews or accreditation, and analytics dashboards. The features page notes that "all sessions are recorded with secure logs."
Deployment choices. OctoProctor runs as a cloud service, which the company pitches as avoiding dedicated hardware, or on-premises inside an organization's own infrastructure for security and regulatory needs. White-labeling is available.
Integrations
OctoProctor lists integrations for Canvas, Brightspace by D2L, iSpring Learn, LearnWorlds, Moodle, Open edX, Sakai and Blackboard, and counts 30+ integrations in all. It announced in April 2026 that it had become a Moodle Certified Integration. Three integration methods are offered: LTI (the IMS Global standard) for single sign-on, secure exam launch and data exchange with LMSs such as Moodle, Canvas, Open edX, Sakai and Blackboard; link-based integration using JWT tokens to launch proctoring from any test page; and an SDK and API for fully embedded flows in custom platforms. The Sakai integration uses LTI 1.3, works with Sakai's Tests & Quizzes and Assignments tools, and lets admins apply proctoring per course, user group or assessment type. Organizations without an LMS can proctor Google Forms or Microsoft Forms, and the company says it will build custom integrations for platforms that support LTI or API connections.
Scale, history, privacy and customers
The homepage reports 1,000,000+ online tests each year, 8,000+ simultaneous test takers and 200+ customers. The about page lists 70+ product releases, 2,000+ code commits and 500+ improvements and new features. One FAQ example describes an online olympiad for 2,000 students with real-time monitoring of more than 1,000 simultaneous test takers, with the caveat that large exams need advance planning.
The company history on the about page starts in 2015, when the founder built "one of the first open-source systems designed for remote, one-on-one university exams." The company was formally founded in 2017, launched its embeddable SDK in 2019, and by 2022 was growing in North America, Europe and the Middle East.
On privacy, the LMS integration FAQ says "We're fully GDPR-compliant, and all session data is encrypted in transit and at rest," and that customers control retention policies and access rights. The footer links a trust center, an uptime status page, a regional data protection policy and an accessibility page.
Prices are not listed. Buyers book a demo or a free call, and the homepage promises "predictable costs" as volume scales.
Case studies include VideoTile Learning (12,000+ device-agnostic exam sessions), Drone Class, an accredited flight school in the Netherlands (40,000+ people trained for the EU drone license), Serving Alcohol (mobile-first, state-compliant exams) and Cebir, a psychometric testing company using it for hiring. Rimon Yaari, CIO of Ramat Gan Academic College, says the college uses OctoProctor "as our main solution for academic exams." Abdelkawy A. Abdelaziz of Modern College of Business and Science notes that "OctoProctor can run on low internet and is compatible with many devices and browsers."
Who it suits and who it does not
OctoProctor suits organizations that want one proctoring layer across several systems and exam types: a university running finals in Moodle or Canvas, a certification body delivering SCORM exams, a corporate academy on iSpring Learn or LearnWorlds that needs attendance evidence for compliance training, or an edtech company embedding proctoring through the SDK. The 256 kbps floor, mobile support and session recovery make it a practical choice where test-takers have patchy connections, and the regional hosting and on-premises options help institutions with data residency rules.
A small team running a few quizzes a year may find the range of models, modules and integration methods more than it needs, and anyone who wants a price before a call will have to book one first, since the site quotes no plans.
