Meazure Learning
Tap a star to rate
Meazure Learning is a full-service testing company for colleges, universities and credentialing bodies, and remote proctoring is the part of its offer most readers will meet first. Its homepage sums up the scope: "we develop, deliver, proctor, and analyze higher-education and credentialing exams, providing end-to-end solutions with concierge-level service." The proctoring itself runs on the ProctorU Proctoring Platform paired with the Guardian Secure Browser, both listed under Meazure Learning's own technology. Around that sit the services an exam program needs before and after test day: blueprinting and item writing, psychometrics, delivery in test centers or online, scoring, data forensics and reporting. That makes it a fit for both of this directory's relevant categories, proctoring for the exam session and assessment tools for building and scoring the exam.
Remote proctoring
The remote proctoring page makes the case that "Successful online proctoring requires more than just good software," and that technology cannot replace the context humans provide. The company backs that with a guarantee: in 2021, it says, it became "the first remote proctoring vendor to guarantee a professional proctor will review every exam session." It describes its proctoring workforce as "The World's Largest Network of Certified Remote Proctoring and Support Staff," shown on a map of its global offices.
How quality is kept up is spelled out more than on most proctoring sites. Meazure Learning lists internal auditing, a secret shopper program and a six-week training process for proctors among its quality control measures. Its certified proctors review and validate every exam session, so a flag reaches the program after a person has looked at it.
The proctoring page also covers:
- Flexible delivery. Exams can run remotely, in a test center or as a hybrid of the two, and test center proctoring has its own service line.
- Global end-user support. The company says it has "securely proctored exams in every single country," and a map on the page shows where, with circle sizes reflecting how many test-takers it has supported there. Service runs 24/7/365.
- Exam readiness. Meazure Learning supplies communication and training materials so administrators and test-takers know what to expect before exam day.
- Client Success Services. Exam consultants act as "an extension of your staff," helping with accreditation work, program growth, a change of proctoring provider or marketing support.
- Compliance. The site says it meets or exceeds "the highest industry standards" and links a compliance page, an accessibility statement and an AI responsible use statement.
For test-takers, the selling point is convenience. Alaina, a student at Thomas Edison State University who is finishing her degree online while working full time, says on the homepage that she is "not stuck with scheduling exams around someone else's schedule. I select what works for my schedule." Grant, a student at the University of Texas at Tyler, writes that his proctor "was well adept at setting up my browser configuration for the exam."
Exam development, delivery and scoring
Beyond proctoring, Meazure Learning runs the rest of the assessment life cycle as services: test program consultation, test development and psychometrics, item writing and analysis, advanced remote exam security, test administration and delivery, scoring, marking and standard setting, data forensics, and reporting.
Its software suite, described as having "intuitive design and ungated access," covers exam blueprinting, item writing and exam development, item banking, automated item generation, SME management, candidate management, exam registration, scheduling, payment and vouchering, remote proctoring, proctoring browser security, exam scoring and reporting, and constructed response marking. Named products include the Meazure Exam Platform, PASS for exam delivery, ADE for exam development, Connect as a candidate manager, Itematic for automated item generation and RedPen for constructed response marking. The homepage adds that it helps programs "No matter what stage of the assessment life cycle you're at or which platform you use," so a program can buy one service or several.
History, pricing and customers
The company dates its assessment work to 1997, saying it has delivered "exceptional assessment services since 1997 and own the patent for remote proctoring." It says it "pioneered online proctoring at scale in 2008 and now proctor millions of exams on the ProctorU Proctoring Platform paired with the Guardian Browser." It serves two markets, higher education and credentialing, and publishes a free guide for each on questions to ask when comparing remote proctoring options.
The site does not list prices; buyers go through Contact Sales or a sales demo request, and the legal footer includes separate terms of purchase. One customer quote shows a pricing model a college can use: Brian St. Amour, Director of Distance Education at Temple College, says Meazure Learning "has been instrumental in providing Temple College online students with a fee-based convenience option for taking proctored exams if they are unable to use our on-campus testing centers."
Other named customers speak to different parts of the business. Larry Lynch, Senior Vice President of Certification and Operations at the National Restaurant Association, says "the most important thing we hear from test-takers is the convenience part." Tammy Leach, Examination Manager at the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators, singles out the psychometric work: "I think that [Meazure Learning's] strength is its psychometrics." Tom Schnieders, co-founder of the Society of Augmented Engineers & Scientists, says what drew his organization was "their ability to safeguard our intellectual property." Jeff Frisk, Director of the Global Information Assurance Certification Program, describes the move to remote testing during the pandemic, saying candidates "have grown used to" it and that "It's been a real pleasure working with [Meazure Learning]."
Who it suits and who it does not
Meazure Learning suits programs where the exam is the product: certification and licensure bodies, regulators and associations that need a defensible exam built, delivered, proctored and scored, and that value having psychometricians and proctors under one contract. Universities and colleges that want to offer online students a proctored alternative to the campus testing center, as Temple College does, are the other core buyer. Programs moving away from another proctoring provider can lean on the client success team for the switch, and organizations with test-takers in many countries get round-the-clock support and human review of every session.
It is more than a single instructor needs for a weekly quiz in a course, and buyers who want a self-service checkout with posted prices will have to talk to sales first. Programs that only want proctoring can start with that one service line, but much of what sets Meazure Learning apart, from item banking to data forensics, pays off for organizations that run a full exam program rather than occasional assessments.
