KnowBe4

Tap a star to rate

KnowBe4 sells a platform for security awareness training, simulated phishing, email security and incident response, and Compliance Plus is the part of it built for regulatory and HR training. The product page sums it up as "easy-to-use tools, training, and tracking to meet regulatory requirements with confidence." It is a business product: an HR, compliance or security team buys it, assigns courses to employees and tracks who has finished them. The page's own description puts the subject range as training "on ethics, HR, and workplace conduct to meet regulatory and cultural expectations." Compliance Plus is sold as an add-on to a KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training subscription rather than as a standalone LMS, so the compliance courses run in the same console and the same learner interface that deliver KnowBe4's security courses.

What the library covers

The center of the product is a content library. The product page says it "includes 1000+ items of fresh, engaging and regularly updated compliance training content," and sets it against "boring, forgettable checkbox training," promising instead "concise, memorable content that changes behavior and reduces risk." The same page sends buyers to a ModStore Preview Portal where they can browse what it calls "the 400+ pieces of content that Compliance Plus has to offer" before signing anything.

On subject matter, the page names "legislative and data privacy requirements, such as HIPAA, PCI, GDPR and many others," and the structured product description adds that the library offers "fresh interactive micromodules with realistic scenarios." The format is short and interactive by design: "Short interactive modules help keep learners engaged and focused." Courses come with supplemental learning aids, which the page lists as newsletters, documents and posters, all included in the subscription.

Companies are not limited to the stock library. The page says you can "incorporate your organization's unique policies and procedures" into what it calls "high-quality brandable modules," and "upload your SCORM-compliant training and video content to the KnowBe4 LMS." In practice that lets a compliance team run its own SCORM courses and recorded videos beside the KnowBe4 titles, from one place, instead of keeping a second system for in-house material. One customer quoted on the page describes the benefit from the HR side: "My HR department doesn't have to worry about coming up with content or worrying about state specific laws [for their] training programs."

The learner experience

Employees take their training in the KnowBe4 Learner Experience (LX), which the knowledge base describes as offering "customization ability and engaging and fun gamification." Admins brand it from the console's Account Settings with a company logo and a brand color. On first login a learner is offered a short, skippable tour, and anyone who comes back after three months of inactivity is prompted to take it again so that new features are introduced. The training list keeps things simple: the first assignment sits at the top, and "after a course is completed, it will move down to the bottom." The LX also runs in the KnowBe4 Learner App, which the guide says lets users "access their security awareness and compliance training anytime and anywhere."

Language handling is per learner. Each user can pick a Training Language from the menu, which localizes the interface and, where a course exists in that language, switches the course to it. A course already started stays in the language it began in. Where a course lacks the chosen language, the system weighs the admin's default language, the browser setting and the learner's earlier course choices.

Gamification is optional and switched on by the admin. Badges pop up when a learner meets a badge's requirements, and they are not earned retroactively. A group leaderboard ranks teams by the percentage of assigned training they have completed, with groups at 100% ordered by how quickly they finished. Admins choose the time window (Past 30 Days, Past 90 Days, Current Quarter, Current Year or All Time) and between 3 and 25 groups, built on any criteria; the guide names manager, department, office and region as the usual ones and suggests Smart Groups to Platinum and Diamond customers. A separate individual leaderboard scores how well users report simulated phishing emails with the Phish Alert Button. Badges and leaderboards are visible only to learners, never to admins or in reports.

When an admin turns on Optional Learning, a Library tab appears where employees can take extra modules of their choice and download a completion certificate for each one they finish. The Optional Training Campaign feature, which shows a library preselected by the admin, is available to all paid accounts. Diamond accounts can also enable AIDA Recommended Optional Learning, where AIDA, KnowBe4's AI feature, suggests content for each user.

Running campaigns and tracking completion

Admins work from the KnowBe4 console, and the product page says that combining the platform with Compliance Plus gives "completely automated compliance training campaigns with world-class support and extensive reporting." The knowledge base fills in the tracking side. An optional Learner Dashboard can show each user their training history, optional learning, Personal Risk Score and Phish-prone Percentage. The Team Dashboard is built for managers to view statistics for each person on their team and for the team as a whole.

Several smaller tools support a campaign. Admins can attach a survey to the end of training content to gauge how well a campaign is working. A User Messaging feature adds a Messages tab and a dashboard tile for unread notes; once enabled, that tab cannot be hidden again. The Need Help? button in each learner's screen points to KnowBe4's knowledge base by default and can be redirected to the company's own help page or email address. Ready-made notification templates sit under Training, with Cyber Hero versions for accounts that use badges and leaderboards. Modules stay in a learner's Training tab only while their campaign is active.

Pricing and terms

The visible part of the product page offers Request a Quote, Request a Demo and View Pricing buttons rather than a price table, but the structured product data on the same page states the terms: "Compliance Plus is an optional add-on to a KnowBe4 SAT subscription, priced per seat/month on a 3-year term at $0.93 for 101-500 seats and $0.82 for 501-1,000 seats, with custom quotes for 1,001+ seats." So the price is per seat per month, a Security Awareness Training subscription comes first, and the published rates assume a three-year commitment. The published seat bands start at 101.

Feature access also follows account level. The knowledge base mentions Platinum and Diamond customers for Smart Groups and reserves AI recommendations for Diamond, while optional training campaigns are open to every paid account. The knowledge base itself is offered in English, Arabic, Czech, Danish, German, Spanish for Latin America and Spain, Finnish, French for Canada and France, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese for Brazil and Portugal, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, with a Contact Support link on every page.

Customer comments on the product page are short and anonymous by company type. A financial services company calls it "the only training I have used that doesn't feel like you are reading or watching content from the 20th century," and a manufacturing company calls it "a 10 out of 10" and "easy, efficient."

Who it suits

Compliance Plus fits best in an organization that already runs KnowBe4 for security awareness and wants its HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, ethics and conduct training on the same console, with the same learner app, branding, dashboards and gamification. HR and compliance teams that would rather license content than write it get a large, regularly updated library, plus the option to load their own SCORM courses and videos for company policies. The published per-seat bands cover companies with 101 to 1,000 seats, and larger organizations move to a quote.

The caveats come from the commercial model. Because it is an add-on, a company that wants a compliance library without KnowBe4's security training has to buy the base subscription as well, and the published rates are tied to a three-year term. Teams under 101 seats fall outside the published bands. For organizations already inside the KnowBe4 platform, those terms are a small step, and the gain is one place to assign, track and brand every mandatory course.
