TrueCoach is personal training software for coaches who deliver one-to-one programming to clients in person, remotely or in a hybrid of both. A coach writes workouts and programs, attaches exercise videos, tracks nutrition, habits and compliance, messages clients and takes payments, while clients log their workouts in a free mobile app. The about page describes it as "your all-in-one business partner" for delivering "personalized 1-on-1 coaching at scale". The site reports 16K+ coaches, 250K+ clients and 50M+ workouts delivered. TrueCoach, Inc. is part of Xplor: the about page brands the product "TrueCoach by Xplor" and says it is "Powered by Xplor Technologies".
Programming and the exercise library
The Workout Builder is a free-form, calendar-based editor. Coaches see workouts from last week or last month while they plan the next block, and the about page explains that as you type an exercise in, the builder auto-links the matching preloaded video demo. The features page describes a drag-and-drop builder for anything "from AMRAPs to Strength Sets", workout templates that take under a minute to build and can be copied to several clients, and a Program Builder that saves whole series of workouts so a coach writes a program once and customizes it per client.
The video library is a major part of the offer. The plan cards list a 3,000+ video exercise library, and coaches can also record their own demonstrations, store them privately in TrueCoach, or link to videos on YouTube or Vimeo. Other coaching tools on the features page include a built-in interval and rest timer in the app, printable PDF workouts for places with poor signal, and custom instructions on individual exercises and circuits. Coaches can also draw on pre-made workout programs and templates in the resource library.
Tracking clients
Clients log each workout, review past results and comment or ask questions from the app, and see their progress in reps, weights, heart rate and more. Coaches capture progress pictures, body metrics, macros, diet and custom data points, and clients earn badges when they hit workout milestones.
Compliance tracking is one of TrueCoach's more distinctive tools. Every client gets a 7, 30 and 90-day compliance rate, calculated as exercises completed against exercises assigned. An automated risk assessment alerts the coach when a client starts to lose compliance, so they can reach out before the client churns. The coach dashboard shows workouts, reminders, due dates and client alerts on one screen, sortable by name, status or compliance, and clients can be paused and reactivated later.
For nutrition, TrueCoach integrates with MyFitnessPal so coaches set calorie and macro goals and monitor them, and meal plans go out through a Documents feature. Custom habits, such as hydration or meditation, can be scheduled daily, weekly or monthly on the client's calendar. Wearable integrations with Apple Health, Garmin, WHOOP, OURA and others bring in sleep, heart rate, activity and recovery data.
Communication and onboarding
Messaging happens inside the app, in real time, with photos, videos and GIFs for form cues, plus group messaging for organized groups. Coaches set their own email and push notification preferences and get alerted when a client completes a workout, leaves feedback or sends a message. Clients are notified when a new workout is assigned. The site says a new client can be onboarded in under two minutes by email or text, and the app runs on iOS, Android and the web.
Running the business
Payments. TrueCoach Payments runs on Stripe and takes credit and debit cards for recurring and one-time payments. The features page says it is available to customers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Under the heading "Never Miss a Pay Day", the about page says subscriptions or one-time payments can be accepted on any plan with no extra fees, with auto billing and real-time payment notifications.
Branding and discovery. Custom theming adds the coach's logo and colors to the app, and the higher plans include a custom-branded fitness app. Public Profiles, new on Standard plans and above, give each coach a web storefront where prospective clients can apply to train with them.
Automation and planning. Business automations powered by Zapier connect TrueCoach to other apps; the plan cards list them on Standard and Pro, while the feature list marks them as exclusive to Pro. A free Business Planner, hosted on Notion, adds a client log, finance tracker, task hub and social media calendar.
Plans and prices
TrueCoach publishes its prices, all in USD. The pricing page shows three plans:
- Starter, $26.34/mo, up to 5 active clients, with the workout builder, client tracker, MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracker, client dashboard, video library, messaging and free automated payments.
- Standard, $57.99/mo, up to 20 active clients, adding public coach profiles, wearable data, a custom-branded fitness app, advanced habit and nutrition tracking, and Zapier automations.
- Pro, $136.99/mo, up to 50 active clients, with the same additions.
Annual billing is described as worth one month free on Starter and two months free on Standard and Pro compared with paying monthly. Coaches with more than 50 clients are offered special pricing by email, and the FAQ invites anyone with more than 250 clients to discuss custom pricing. The default agreement is month to month and can be canceled any time, plans can be changed at the next billing cycle, there are no extra fees, and TrueCoach is free for the coach's clients. A 14-day free trial needs no credit card. Annual plans carry the TrueCoach Guarantee, an unconditional 90-day money-back guarantee for first-time subscribers on an annual plan, with restrictions.
Extras and support
Partner Perks give TrueCoach coaches discounts on education, certifications, business tools, wellness products, equipment and clothing from partners such as NASM, ISSA, Precision Nutrition and TRX. An embedded NASM CEU Library offers continuing education at up to 33% off. Support runs through a Help Center, a Learning Center with guides, case studies, webinars and a blog.
Customer quotes on the home page include Sean Pastuch, founder of Active Life, who says "TrueCoach has increased our monthly revenue by over $55,000."
Who it suits
TrueCoach fits personal trainers and strength, bodybuilding, weightlifting and nutrition coaches who program individually for clients, as well as physical therapists, occupational therapists and chiropractors who assign home programs. Its specialties pages also cover CrossFit coaches running group classes, university educators and recreation centers. The client caps make the plan choice simple: up to 5, 20 or 50 active clients, with custom pricing above that. It is built around coaches who know each client's program, so the strengths are programming speed, compliance tracking and getting paid, rather than selling a large self-paced course catalog.
