What it is

Great Learning is an online education company that sells postgraduate certificates, executive and leadership programs and online degrees in partnership with universities, and runs a separate self-paced library called Great Learning Academy. Its home page headline reads "13 Years of Accelerating Career Growth" and says the company is "Trusted by 15 million professionals." The same page lists 15 Million+ students enrolled, a 96% satisfaction rate, a 91% program completion rate and a 4.6/5 faculty rating, all as the company's own figures.

There are really three products under one roof. University programs are cohort-based online courses run with named schools and carry the partner university's certificate. Pro courses are short, self-paced professional courses bundled into the Academy Pro+ subscription. Free courses are short introductory courses, with a certificate available for a fee. The reader for the first is a working professional or manager looking at executive education; the second and third serve anyone building data, AI, cloud or business skills on their own schedule.

University programs

The home page groups university programs by domain, with counts beside each: AI and Machine Learning (24 programs), Generative AI (14), Agentic AI (14), Leadership Programs (13) and Data Science and Analytics (7), plus cloud computing, cyber security, software development, healthcare, management, doctorate and master's tracks. The partner schools named on the program cards include McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, MIT Professional Education, MIT IDSS, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, Deakin University, Walsh College, Chicago Booth Executive Education, NUS Business School, Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, Duke University's School of Medicine, Harvard Medical School Executive Education and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

A few examples show the range of formats and lengths:

  • PG Program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Business Applications, with McCombs, 23 weeks online on weekends;
  • Applied AI and Data Science Program, with MIT Professional Education, 15 weeks, live virtual on weekdays and weekends;
  • AI and Data Science (Responsible AI, Data and Statistics for Practical Impact), with MIT IDSS, 12 weeks, marked "Learn from MIT Faculty";
  • Certificate Program in Agentic AI, with Johns Hopkins University, 18 weeks online;
  • AI Transformation and Leadership, with Chicago Booth Executive Education, 10 weeks, mentored;
  • General Management Program, with Duke's Fuqua School, 7 months, blended;
  • MS in Data Science Programme, with Northwestern University, 18 months online with live sessions;
  • Doctor of Business Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with Walsh College, 3 years online.

The leadership track is the clearest executive education offer: a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Program over 6 months, Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Financial Officer programs over 8 months, a Chief Marketing Officer Program over 7 months and a Global Health Care Leaders Program with Harvard Medical School Executive Education over 8 months, mostly in a blended format. Microsoft programs sit alongside these, including AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator training (6 weeks), PL-300 Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst certification training (10 weeks) and a Microsoft AI Professional Program that lists access to Azure Labs.

The Academy page describes university programs as "Immersive cohort-based online learning (6-12 months)" with a "Certificate from top universities like MIT, UT Austin, Johns Hopkins University." The home page describes the teaching model as a blend of lectures from top faculty, group discussions and mentoring sessions, together with industry mentors who already work in the learner's field and hands-on, portfolio-building projects done with peers. The structure is pitched at people who already have jobs: "We know you're already juggling a lot," the page says, so programs are designed to be tackled "at your own speed, whilst keeping your work-study-life balance in mind."

How enrollment and fees work for programs

Program fees are not printed on the cards. Each program has a brochure, and the download form promises "the program and fee details in our brochure." Submitting the form, which asks for name, email, mobile number, work experience and domain, triggers the message that a domain expert is being allocated and that the visitor should "Expect to receive a call in the next 4 hours." Prospective learners can also schedule a call with a program advisor, and an AI assistant called GL-AI, billed as "Your 24*7 AI Assistant", asks a few questions and suggests suitable programs. One Great Learning program, AI-Native Professional: Workflows and Agents for Productivity (6 weeks, online on weekends), carries a "Money Back Guarantee" label on the home page.

Great Learning Academy: free and Pro courses

The Academy is the self-paced side. It advertises "1000+ Courses for Free," introductory courses of about 1 to 3 hours each, and the FAQ explains that these offer "foundational knowledge with optional certificates for a fee." Popular free courses show their ratings, length and enrollment on the card: Excel for Beginners (4.5 hours, 1.8M+ learners), Java Programming (748.7K+ learners), Data Science Foundations (665.3K+ learners), Python for Machine Learning (475.3K+ learners) and Introduction to Digital Marketing (1.1M+ learners). The catalog spans AI and generative AI, data science, machine learning, cloud, cyber security, IT and software, management, leadership, digital marketing, UI/UX design, banking and finance, healthcare, creative arts and safety and compliance, and there is a set of free courses taught in Spanish.

Pro courses are the paid self-paced tier: 15 to 20 hours each, with a Pro Certificate from Great Learning, hands-on projects, coding exercises and what the FAQ calls "AI-powered mentorship." Master Data Science and Machine Learning in Python, for example, lists 136 coding exercises, 6 projects and 17 hours of video. The Academy also packages four career certificates (Data Analyst, AI Engineer, Project Manager and Cyber Security Analyst), each of 6 courses with lifetime access.

Academy Pro+ pricing

Academy Pro+ is the one price the site prints: $19 a month, with a 7-day free trial and "No credit card required." The subscription box lists "Learn from 40+ Pro courses," "Access 500+ certificates for free," "700+ Practice exercises & guided projects" and "Prep with AI mock interviews & resume builder." Elsewhere the page calls it "500+ courses and career prep tools in a single subscription," and the headline for it reads "Go beyond learning. Get job ready with Academy Pro+." Other tools in the Academy menu include an AI Resume Builder, coding exercises, guided projects and AI mock interviews.

Support, community and apps

The Academy's comparison panel lists support features across its tiers, including instant doubt clearance with an AI Mentor, weekly sessions with industry experts, capstone projects under a mentor's guidance and career support such as 1:1 career guidance sessions, resume and LinkedIn review and mock interviews. The home page invites learners to "join our community of 9 Million learners" and carries video testimonials. Brooks Christensen, on MIT Professional Education's Applied Data Science Program, is quoted: "World-class instructors and industry experts would give advice on the projects you are working on." Ross Dickie, who took the Design Thinking program by Stanford, is quoted: "You do not just learn theory, it is experiential learning." Great Learning offers Android and iOS apps, and there is an Enterprise Solutions contact for organizations.

Who it suits

Great Learning suits a working professional who wants a university-branded certificate in AI, data science, cloud or leadership without leaving a job, and who is comfortable speaking with an advisor to get fees. Managers and senior leaders have a dedicated track of CTO, CHRO, CFO and CMO programs. Self-directed learners get a large free library and a low-cost subscription that adds projects and certificates.

The caveat is cost transparency for the university programs: a buyer needs the brochure or a call to see the fee. Learners who want only a free certificate should note that free-course certificates are paid. For anyone ready to compare a handful of named programs, the durations, formats and partner schools on each card make shortlisting quick.
