Online Courses Australia

Online Courses Australia, which also calls itself OCA, sells self-paced online short courses to adults who want to change careers, upskill or follow an interest. The site lists phone lines for Australia and New Zealand, carries an Australian company number in its footer, and says lifetime access is "Available Worldwide". Its pitch is practical: "Our courses are designed in collaboration with institutions, employers and industry experts to equip you with practical, real-world skills that will advance your career and broaden your mind." The reader it serves is an individual learner, typically someone fitting study around work and family, though a "For Business & Teams" section in the main menu shows it also sells to employers.

The catalog

The homepage claims "80+ online courses across dozens of industries". The subject menu lists these groups: Aged Care, Counseling and Community; AI, Cyber and Software; Allied Health and Wellbeing; Animal Health and Veterinary Care; Beauty, Lifestyle and Leisure; Business, Retail and Entrepreneurship; Criminology; Dog Grooming, Pet Care and Dog Training; Education and Childcare; Employability and Future-Ready Skills; Events and Hospitality; Fitness, Health and Nutrition; Horticulture; HR, Management and Communication; Interior Design; Landscape and Garden Design; Photography; Real Estate; Social Media and Marketing; and Travel, Tourism and Aviation. A further group bundles the most popular courses with "Unlimited Access Passes". That spread, from veterinary care to real estate, is what makes OCA a general skills library rather than a specialist school.

How a course works

The Working with Children course shows the format in detail. It is listed at 32 study hours, described as an "entry-level childcare course", and covers topics such as ensuring the health and safety of children, providing care for babies and toddlers, providing experiences to support children's play and learning, maintaining work health and safety, and working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The course page lists career pathways including childcare assistant, childcare worker, family day carer, playgroup supervisor, recreation assistant and professional nanny.

The teaching approach is spelled out under "Why students love learning with us": "We don't use dense academic text books. Instead, we design digestible step-by-step modules and high-quality video sessions, backed by 24/7 tutorial support." The site states that "All online lessons are presented in step-by-step learning modules perfect for studying at a pace that suits your lifestyle." Learners can "Enrol at any time" and get instant access after enrolling online.

Assessment is designed to be low pressure. The course page says "assessments are generally short answer or multiple-choice and can be re-taken as many times as needed", and adds that they "are designed to improve comprehension rather than test the recall of facts in a timed setting." Marking turnaround is listed as "within 1 business day".

Certificates and CPD

On completing the Working with Children course, according to its page, "you will receive a course completion acknowledgement and short form credential". OCA describes itself as "fully CPD-endorsed", and its homepage explains that "Every hour of learning you complete with us equates to 1 CPD point." A homepage news item dates the award of "the global CPD Endorsement" to 12 February 2021. The course page says CPD points "are recognised by employers" and that learners "will receive evidence of your CPD points on your Course Completion Acknowledgement and digital badge issued by Credly". The site describes the outcome in those terms: a completion credential with CPD points and a Credly badge.

Support

Support is a large part of the offer. The homepage promises "1:1 support" and "Real-world tutors", and both pages repeat the same line: "Access expert support from a tutor by email or phone (Mon-Fri) or reach us on live chat, 7 days a week." The course page adds "One on one mentor support" and describes the course mentor as a "Real-world mentor with industry experience". Before enrolling, a prospective learner can request a free info pack with a career discovery call, book a call, or use an SMS chat that the site says is run by "our AI team member Eva", who "will text you within 60 seconds" to answer questions about a course, payment plans or career outcomes. The course page also links a demo.

One testimonial on the course page comes from a learner named Robyn, who switched from studying the same childcare course in person: "I can work my studies around my children. It's no longer a juggle trying to fit everything into my busy lifestyle."

Prices and payment plans

Prices are per course and shown in Australian dollars. The Working with Children course gives three ways to pay:

  • Pay Upfront + Save, marked "MOST POPULAR" and "Best Deal": $599, down from $800, total cost $599.
  • Buy Now Pay Later through Afterpay: "4 interest free payments of $149.75 AUD fortnightly", total cost $599, with "Eligibility Applies."
  • Weekly Payment Plan: "$10 per week for 80 weeks", interest free with no credit check and a flexible first payment date within seven days, total cost $800.

So the weekly plan totals $800, against $599 for paying upfront or through Afterpay. Every option includes lifetime access and unlimited support. The course page lists other ways to pay as well: "Pay upfront with your credit card or Apple Pay, set up a flexible payment plan or use Afterpay or Latitude Pay to buy now, pay later."

The refund terms are clear: "If your course isn't the right fit, we offer a 7-day cooling-off period so you can either switch to another course or get your money back." The course page also shows a "7-Day Money Back Guarantee" beside the enroll buttons.

Recognition

The homepage reports two awards: OCA was "Recognised as a Leader in Customer Experience at AFR's 2025 Customer Champion Awards", and it calls itself "the WINNER of the Docebo Inspire 2023 Learning Awards". The course page also shows a Trustpilot badge.

Who it suits and who it does not

Online Courses Australia suits an adult who wants a structured, self-paced course with tutor support: a parent studying around children, as Robyn's review describes, someone moving into childcare, aged care or animal care, or a professional collecting CPD points. Retakeable short-answer and multiple-choice assessments, quick marking, tutors by phone and live chat, and payment plans from $10 a week lower the barriers to starting and finishing.

It is less of a fit for someone who needs a formal, nationally accredited qualification for a regulated job, since the site describes its outcome as a completion acknowledgement, a short form credential and CPD points. Learners who want live classes or a fixed cohort will find the on-demand format solitary, and anyone on a weekly plan should note that it costs more in total than paying upfront.
