What Centre of Excellence is

Centre of Excellence, often shortened to CoE on its own site, is an online school selling self-paced courses to adults who want to learn for a career change, a side business or simple interest, with a smaller set of free courses for children. The home page describes the offer as "Over 1,000 courses to choose from, across 32 categories" and its headline product as "Unlimited learning. £16 a month." It counts "2M+ students" and lists CPD, City & Guilds, QLS and Trustpilot under that figure.

The reader it serves is a learner rather than a creator: someone curious about psychology, herbalism or crystals, a would-be life coach or dog trainer, an adult working on confidence or mindset, or a parent looking for free learning for a primary-school child. Prices are shown in pounds by default, and the site lets visitors switch to dollars, euros, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dollars or rupees.

What the catalog covers

The 32 categories lean toward wellbeing, therapy and personal interests. They include life coaching, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), counseling and psychology, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, NLP, Reiki, aromatherapy, reflexology, massage, holistic and beauty therapy, herbalism, crystals, psychic and supernatural topics, diet and nutrition, fitness and wellbeing, animal care, autism and special needs, child education, healthy ageing, corporate wellness, languages, science and earth sciences, history, writing, hobby and craft, essential skills, AI, business, marketing and PR, and business masterclasses. There are course bundles, audio courses and a free courses category.

The home page shows how individual courses are built and how many people take them:

  • "Canine Behaviour Training Diploma Course": 12 modules, £127.00, 19.5K users enrolled.
  • "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Diploma Course": 21 modules and 4 videos, 47.9K users enrolled.
  • Anatomy and Physiology Diploma Course: 16 modules and 7 videos, 12.1K users enrolled.
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Supporting Wellbeing and Mental Health of Self and Others: £129.00, reduced from £299.00.

Personal development courses

Personal growth is one of the school's main shelves. A blog article on the site picks nine personal development diplomas, available "starting at just £29" through its links: Navigating Life as a Highly Sensitive Person, Personal Branding, Mental Wellness Coaching, Reinventing Yourself, Journal Therapy, Manifesting Your Dreams, Shadow Mastery, Self-Confidence and Living Your Best Life. The descriptions are concrete. The Self-Confidence diploma covers the difference between self-confidence, self-esteem and arrogance, assertive communication, boundary-setting and handling rejection. The Mental Wellness Coaching diploma teaches active listening, goal setting and motivational interviewing, and says it shows how to support emotional well-being "without diagnosing or treating". Living Your Best Life works through self-assessment, the Pillars of Life, the Wheel of Life and SMART goals.

The FAQ on that page answers the practical questions. Courses take "anywhere from a few weeks to several months" depending on the course and the learner's pace. Most suit all levels, and they are "designed to be accessible to adults of all ages", whether in their 20s or their 60s. Support comes from "expert tutors who are available to guide you throughout your studies", and learners can connect through the school's community, including a Facebook study group.

Free courses for kids

The kids' category lists 22 courses, all free. The page explains why: "As part of our mission to positively impact the lives of 1 billion people worldwide, we've made our wide range of accredited courses for kids - free!" Courses show as £0.00 against a usual £147.00.

The list mixes topic courses with school subjects. On the topic side are Beginner's French for Kids (12 modules and 14 audio files), Biology for Kids (10 modules and 10 videos), Chemistry, Creative Writing, Dinosaurs, Exploring Outer Space, Herbalism, History: Invaders and Settlers, Nutrition, Significant Historical Figures, Steam Trains and Locomotives, Wellbeing and World Explorers. On the school side are English and Maths courses for Year 2 through Year 5, plus Year 6 English. Enrollment numbers run from a few hundred per course to 1.2K for Dinosaurs for Kids, so these are used, not decorative.

Adults get a free course too: signing up brings a free "Improve your Memory" diploma course.

How learning and accreditation work

The home page describes courses built from "meticulously crafted modules", saying that "you can easily deepen your knowledge and understanding in your chosen field". As learners progress they collect CPD points and "a certificate of diploma", which the school calls a valuable addition to a professional profile. Course listings show modules, videos and audio files, and the catalog can be filtered by learning method, online course or audio book.

On accreditation, the personal development FAQ says many of those courses "are accredited by professional bodies such as CPD, CMA, and Quality Licence Scheme". The site is careful about jobs: asked whether learners can get a job afterwards, it says these courses can open opportunities in coaching, counseling and self-help, but "practical experience and additional qualifications may be required for specific professional roles."

Prices and the Grow membership

There are two ways to pay. Single courses are priced individually, from the £29 personal growth diplomas to £127 for the canine behavior training diploma, and £129 for the City & Guilds award.

The alternative is the Grow Access All membership: "All courses. All audio. One membership." It gives instant access to the full course library and the audio courses, plus entry to the Member Hub, exclusive benefits and member-only discounts. It costs £16 a month, billed annually at £192, which the site calls a "lock-in limited price".

Buying a paid course also makes a learner eligible for Totum, a student discount card, though free courses do not qualify unless taken through Grow. Businesses can buy through CoE for Business, which offers personalized solutions for employee wellbeing and productivity, and the site sells gift cards, stationery and course products.

Community

Community is a real part of the pitch. The home page invites learners to join its global community and says its biggest online study group has 80,000 members. The school reports 2.3 million followers on Facebook and 2.2m on YouTube.

Who it suits and who it does not

Centre of Excellence suits adults who want affordable, self-paced courses with a certificate and CPD points across wellbeing, therapy-adjacent skills, animal care, crafts and personal growth, and especially those who plan to take several courses, where the £192 yearly Grow membership pays off quickly. Parents of primary-age children get a genuinely useful set of free courses, including Year 2 to Year 6 English and Maths.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs a regulated professional qualification to practice as a counselor or therapist, which the school itself says may need further training, and for learners who want live teaching rather than modules, videos and audio.
