What Master D is
Master D is a vocational training company for adults in Portugal who want a practical course that leads to a job, studied online with tutor support or in a blended format at one of its centers. The site describes it as a professional training company with more than 30 years of experience, aiming to help "os nossos mais de 60.000 formandos a nível global" (our more than 60,000 learners worldwide) reach their goals, and uses the tagline "Grupo Educativo Líder em Formação Profissional" (leading educational group in professional training). On online study specifically it says "Somos referência no mercado em cursos online há mais de 25 anos" (we have been a reference in online courses for more than 25 years). The homepage promotes more than 80 courses, and the company counts 31 training centers in all, with 5 in Portugal listed by name: Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra, Faro and Braga. The homepage says "Contamos com 31 centros de formação em Portugal e em Espanha" (we have 31 training centers in Portugal and Spain).
The course catalog
The online catalog is organized by profession, and almost every course title names a job. Animal care is a strong area, with veterinary assistant, grooming, equine veterinary assistant, petshop operator with a grooming specialization, and a course for exotic animal veterinary assistants and zookeepers. Food service covers cooking, pastry, an advanced cooking and pastry course, cake design, sommelier, head waiter (chefe de sala) and bartender. Tourism and hospitality includes tour guide, tourism technician with a travel agency specialization, rural tourism management, hotel housekeeping, hotel receptionist, hostel and local accommodation management, and advanced hotel management.
Health and well-being covers health assistant, massage and well-being, dental clinic assistant, geriatric assistant (with an option in sociocultural activities), and courses in parapharmacy, dietetics and nutrition and in sports supplementation. Fashion includes fashion design, personal shopper, fashion marketing and communication, and sewing and pattern making. Education covers early childhood assistant and babysitting and sociocultural and tourism animation. Marketing courses range from digital marketing (with an e-commerce specialization) and social media management to brand management and advertising, events and public relations, wedding planning, and sports marketing with an eSports specialization. Administrative courses include business management, accounting assistant, and administrative assistant tracks combined with HR, reception, finance or executive support. There is also an interior decoration course.
The technical side is broad. Industry courses cover warehouse logistics, car mechanics and robotics. IT includes cybersecurity and Linux and computer systems, and programming includes an artificial intelligence course, web design and an advanced course in website design and programming. Design and multimedia offers graphic design, digital art and advanced combined courses in design, multimedia and digital marketing. The video game area is unusually specific: game art, 3D modeling for games with Blender, 2D game development with Unity, game programming with Unity 3D, and 3D animation and rigging for games.
For public-sector careers there is exam preparation for the security forces, with courses preparing for admission to the training course for PSP agents ("Preparação para Admissão ao Curso de Formação de Agentes da PSP") and to the training course for GNR guards.
How the online model works
The online courses page lists the advantages of studying with Master D. Learners study from anywhere through the exclusive Campus Virtual Master D, which the site calls a very intuitive platform holding all course content. Training is personalized and adjusted to each learner's pace, and the study plan is drawn up together with a training adviser (the Orientador da formação). The teaching team gives personal support through the Campus Virtual, Skype or phone. Synchronous and asynchronous sessions, such as webinars and videos, are used to clear up doubts and go deeper into topics. The page adds that distance training favors interactivity, and that a desktop computer, tablet or smartphone is all a learner needs.
The teaching team has three roles: tutors (Tutores), preparers (Preparadores) and advisers (Orientadores), who together are meant to keep the learner progressing and finishing with the strongest results in the shortest possible time. For learners who need more help, the study adviser (Orientador de Estudos) provides frequent, personalized and constant follow-up so that the learner's study pace stays in step with the tutor. The homepage describes the overall model as training people on 2 levels, knowledge and skills, with follow-up, training and preparation at its core, and says Master D combines online methodology with in-person training at its centers. The online courses page also mentions a blended option (formação semi-presencial) alongside fully online study.
Certification
The online courses page states that the online courses are certified in the same way as the in-person ones. It says Master D is certified by APCER (Associação Portuguesa de Certificação) and certified by DGERT for five areas: audiovisual and media production, marketing and advertising, computer science, electricity and energy, and electronics and automation. The company also says it periodically adjusts course content to the needs of the job market and takes learner feedback into account.
Prices and contact
The pages publish no prices; visitors are asked to request information through a form or to call 218 700 701, which the site marks as a call to the national landline network. Existing learners log in through the Campus Virtual, and the footer links to pages on job placement (Inserção Laboral), partnerships, certifications and the company's veterinary school.
What learners say
The testimonials on the homepage are mostly about getting work. Carlos Duarte writes that he is now working at a veterinary clinic, and Mariana Matos says she took the grooming course and is now working in the field. Inês Souto, a dental assistant student, says she realized on her work placement how much technical knowledge the job required. José Domingos credits Master D with helping him start a rural tourism business in a family house after a period of unemployment, and Iryna Auttenberg, who already held a marketing degree, praises the preparers who help her with the digital side. Alfredo Castro, on a computer repair course, calls it very practical and his trainers excellent.
Who it suits
Master D suits Portuguese-speaking adults who want a job-focused qualification with structured support: someone retraining as a veterinary assistant or groomer, a career changer moving into hospitality or tourism, a creative learner heading for graphic design or game development with Unity and Blender, or a candidate preparing for GNR or PSP entrance. The mix of tutors, preparers and study advisers suits learners who want regular follow-up rather than a library of videos, and the centers in Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra, Faro and Braga give a blended option. Learners comparing costs will need to contact the company, since course prices are given only on request.
