What IAP Career College is

IAP Career College, also known as the International Association of Professions Career College, is a private online career college that sells short, self-paced certificate courses for people moving into what it calls "dream careers". It is affiliated with FabJob Inc, which the site describes as the leading online publisher of guide books on how to get started in a dream career, and it says it has served hundreds of thousands of career changers on six continents since 1999. The course pages put the figure more precisely: since 1999 it has helped over 500,000 students across six continents get started in dream careers, from life coaching to event planning to end-of-life care. The footer adds "27 Years of Excellence in Online Education".

The audience is adult career changers rather than degree seekers. The site describes its courses as "flexible, beginner-friendly, and designed for adult learners looking for practical, self-paced options", offered part-time so learners can schedule study around their lives.

What the catalog covers

The home page promises "100+ certificate courses with flexible schedules". Trending searches include life coach, bookkeeping, accounting, event planner and organizer, and the popular certificates it features are the Life Coach, Death Doula, Professional Organizer and Bookkeeper certificate courses. The Therapist course page suggests related options in sociology, psychology, happiness coaching and relationship coaching. Beyond the standard certificate courses, the programs menu lists certificate courses in Spanish, master certification courses, scholarly certificate courses, short courses on business skills, life experience certifications, professional associations and the IAPO Business Awards.

How a course works: the Therapist Certificate

The Therapist Certificate Course shows the model in detail. It is an online program with suggested readings from the course textbook, the IAP Career College Guide to Become a Therapist, and it is self-directed, so learners study and complete assignments when it suits them. The recommended completion time is 6 weeks from the start of the program, but the page says "you may choose to complete the course in as little as 2 weeks or as long as 12 weeks, depending on your schedule." The FAQ adds that all IAP courses include lifetime access to the materials.

Courses run on dated starts. The page lists the next start as September 28, 2026, with late registration accepted, and warns that enrollment is limited and registration is first come, first served; if a course is full, learners can email support to hear about the next date. Changes and cancellations are described as easy, with details in the FAQ.

The course is built to be completed without teaching assistance, but learners can get help from a Faculty Member throughout the 6 weeks, described as "a valuable resource person who can provide you with personal teaching assistance to help you succeed in the course and advice to help you succeed in the career." The syllabus covers an introduction to therapy, what a therapist does (common mental health concerns, therapeutic techniques, the therapeutic alliance and process, ethics, self-care and specializations), preparing for practice, getting hired, starting your own business and marketing your services. That mix of subject knowledge and career and business advice runs through IAP's courses.

The registration package includes the course, lifetime access, access to a Faculty Member, a downloadable certificate personalized with the learner's name and the college seal, the e-book textbook, an optional 2026 membership in the IAPO International Association of Professional Therapists for US$ 2.99 per month, and the option to order official certificates printed on fine linen paper and embossed with the gold seal of the college. The home page says certificates can be downloaded immediately upon successful completion.

What the certificate is and is not

IAP is unusually direct about the limits of its credential. The Therapist FAQ asks whether the course qualifies a learner to work as a licensed therapist and answers: "No. This course does not provide professional licensing or credentials required to practice therapy in regulated jurisdictions." The career section explains that therapy requires professional licensing or certification in most jurisdictions and typically a master's degree, and presents the course as an introduction to help a learner decide whether to pursue the field before spending time and money on degrees and licensing. The same page cites U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projections for mental health counselor jobs as context. No psychology background is needed to enroll, and the course can be taken from anywhere in the world, with materials available 24/7.

Prices and guarantee

The Therapist course shows a course fee of US$ 149.00 as a fall special against a listed US$ 377.00. The page explains that its certificate courses have previously been offered for a registration fee of $297 U.S., including a textbook and professional membership, "a total value of almost $377." IAP says it can charge less than other programs because of more than 20 years of producing career guides, and that it found courses based on old editions of its guides with registration fees of up to $999 and more. The home page offers a $10 discount code for newsletter sign-ups, and every certificate course is backed by a "full 100% money back guarantee."

Textbooks and professional associations

Textbooks come from FabJob, the parent company, and are included at no extra cost. The site says FabJob's guides sit in the library collections of the University of Texas, Columbia University, Wellesley College and the Fashion Institute of Technology, and that institutions including George Mason University and Harper College in Chicago have used them for courses from event planning to fashion design.

Students can also join one of dozens of professional associations affiliated with the International Association of Professional Organizations (IAPO) for $2.99 per month in 2024, as the home page puts it. Membership brings discounts on IAP certificate programs, a newsletter, partner discounts and the right to display the association's seal.

Access and support

Courses are accessible on a mobile phone through what the home page calls "our trusted third-party app", with instructions sent right after purchase. Academic advisors answer questions by email, registered students have a Student Service Center phone line, and live chat is available 24 hours a day.

What students say

Donna George of Chicago wrote that her course "was comprehensive, accessible and dealt with all facets of the business." Nicole Buenaventura of Montreal said: "In 4 months, I had already completed 2 certifications and those won't be my last." The Therapist page profiles graduate Bella Simoni, quoted as saying "I feel more prepared, more focused, and more driven than ever."

Who it suits

IAP Career College suits adults exploring a new or self-employed career, such as coaching, organizing, event planning, bookkeeping or death doula work, who want a structured introduction, a textbook and a certificate to show clients, at a low price with a money back guarantee. It also suits people testing interest in a regulated field like therapy before committing to a degree. Anyone who needs a license to practice should treat the certificate as a first step, exactly as the course pages advise.
