What Code Labs Academy is

Code Labs Academy is an online coding bootcamp for career changers and people upskilling in tech. Its home page describes "Job-focused bootcamps in Web Development, Data Science & AI, Cybersecurity, and UX/UI & Product Design," taught live by working professionals, with a portfolio built along the way and 1-to-1 career support at the end. The school's pitch is aimed at people who do not have a computer science degree: someone stuck in a job with no room to grow, or someone who taught themselves the basics and hit a wall. Its answer is structure, a mentor "who's done the work," and a career team whose job is getting graduates hired.

All teaching is online. The site runs regional versions for different countries, and its contact details list addresses in London and in Washington, DC. Graduate reviews on the site come from learners in Berlin, Cologne, Lisbon and Santa Catarina, Brazil, among others.

Two formats: live bootcamps and self-paced courses

The school offers the same curriculum in two formats. Live bootcamps run with instructors and classmates on a set schedule, in part-time or full-time cohorts that last 3-6 months with fixed start dates, and include 1-to-1 career coaching. The home page puts the bootcamps at 120-500 hours. Self-paced courses start any time and use "The same hands-on, project-based curriculum, with mentor feedback and an industry-recognized certificate, minus the fixed timetable."

The live bootcamps cover four subjects:

  • Web Development. Full-stack apps with JavaScript, React, Node.js and databases.
  • Data Science & AI. Python, machine learning, deep learning and modern LLM applications, going "from Python fundamentals to machine learning models."
  • Cybersecurity. Offensive and defensive security, from red teaming to incident response.
  • UX/UI & Product Design. Research, interface design, prototyping and product thinking in Figma.

The self-paced catalog includes Data Science & AI, AI Engineer: Introduction to RAG & Search (retrieval-augmented generation and semantic search), Web Development, UX/UI & Product Design, AWS Cloud Security Fundamentals (IAM, DevSecOps and securing AWS workloads), Git Fundamentals for Beginners and AI for Marketing.

Inside a bootcamp: the cybersecurity example

The cybersecurity bootcamp page shows how a live program is built. It runs 12 or 24 weeks, and the school says it takes learners from "just curious" to practicing cybersecurity in as few as 12 weeks full-time.

It starts with a self-paced prework chapter that "gets everyone to the same starting line before live classes begin." Learners build a lab with virtualization, a Kali or Parrot Linux machine and vulnerable target VMs, and cover Linux, Python and Bash, how computers store data, a first look at C and memory, networking basics, and Git and GitHub. The prework ends with a project called The Enigma, breaking a cipher text with classical ciphers and writing up the method. The page says, "You don't need any experience to start."

The live chapters then cover fundamentals (security principles, threat modeling, risk management and compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF 2.0, ISO 27001 and GDPR, plus Linux, Windows, Active Directory, cloud and containers); offensive security (penetration testing from reconnaissance to reporting, the OWASP Top 10, API testing, Active Directory attacks, cloud and AI security testing); defensive security (SOC operations, SIEM tools including Splunk, Elastic and Microsoft Sentinel, threat hunting, incident response, forensics and malware analysis); and specializations with a capstone, including cloud security, DevSecOps, AI and LLM security, and electives in mobile, IoT and OT/ICS security, with preparation for certifications, bug bounties and interviews.

How the teaching works

The methodology combines online live learning with self-study. The cybersecurity page gives the weekly load: part-time is 9 hours of live learning and 11 hours of self-study, 20 hours a week in total; full-time is 22.5 hours live and 17.5 hours of self-study, 40 hours a week. Full-time students attend live online from Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 3:30pm, with two lecture sessions in the morning and a hands-on session in the afternoon. The school uses what it calls a flipped classroom method, so concepts are studied on one's own and live time goes to applying them, plus guided practice built around hands-on exercises and portfolio building.

Requirements are spelled out. No prior qualifications in computer science or programming are needed, and the school says it assumes no prior knowledge. Learners need a computer able to run security tools and virtual machines (16GB RAM, 512GB storage, a Core i5 CPU or above), a stable internet connection, basic computing and web knowledge, and English at B1 level, because the bootcamp is conducted in English.

Career services and certificate

The Career Services Center offers career development workshops, 1:1 career counseling with career action planning, mock interviews covering behavioral and technical questions and salary conversations, resume and cover letter reviews, a job and internship roundup focused on entry-level roles, ongoing access to career resources on the learning platform, networking events with tech professionals, and alumni networking. Graduates leave with a GitHub-ready portfolio of projects polished with mentor feedback, and the school says its curriculum is "refreshed every quarter" to match hiring needs in AI, cybersecurity and web development.

The certificate is described as "your AZAV-accredited Code Labs Academy certificate," for use on LinkedIn, a CV and visa applications.

Financing, ratings and track record

The pages publish no tuition figures. The school says it offers "monthly installment plans, funding options, and in Germany our programmes can be 100% funded through a Bildungsgutschein," the German employment agency's education voucher, and invites prospective students to book a call to work out which fits.

The cybersecurity page reports a 2,226-member learning community, a 9.9/10 Net Promoter Score, and 5.0 ratings on Course Report and Google Reviews. The home page says it is "Trusted by 100+ graduates who landed their dream tech jobs" and lists employers where graduates work, including Mercedes-Benz AG, Deutsche Telekom, Accenture, Google, UBS AG and KPMG France. For companies, it also offers corporate training and tech staffing. Free learning resources (free courses, recorded workshops and interview-prep sessions) are open to everyone.

Who it suits

Code Labs Academy suits a career changer who wants a live, structured online bootcamp with a clear weekly schedule, or a self-paced course with mentor feedback, in web development, data science and AI, cybersecurity or design. Job seekers in Germany may qualify for full funding through a Bildungsgutschein. Learners need solid English and, for the full-time track, daytime availability on weekdays.
