What VdoCipher is

VdoCipher is a secure video hosting service built around DRM, aimed at e-learning, LMS and media platforms that lose revenue when their videos are downloaded or screen recorded. The home page puts it directly: "VdoCipher's online video security helps several such platforms scale their video streaming, secure their videos and deliver them smoothly to their users." It hosts, transcodes and streams your videos through its own player, which you embed in your website or app, and its focus is keeping that video from leaving the player.

It is a video layer rather than a course platform. A test prep institute, a course marketplace or a company training portal keeps its own site, enrollment and payments, and uses VdoCipher for the videos inside it. The site lists use cases in EdTech and e-learning, media and OTT, developers, enterprise, healthcare, sports and finance.

The company's credentials on the home page include a Best Video Security Company award from Streaming Media Magazine Europe, status as a certified Widevine integration partner by Google and an AWS Standard Technology Partner, and a 4.9 rating on G2. It claims 7000+ video platforms have "secured extra $200 Million in revenues by preventing piracy & increasing paid users".

How it protects video

DRM encryption. The FAQ defines video DRM as "the encryption and licensing protocols maintained by the likes of Google and Apple", and VdoCipher streams through Google Widevine and Apple FairPlay. The site claims no downloader, plugin or hack can download the protected videos, and that downloaders with 100 Million+ installs fail on it. The FAQ is more precise about coverage: illegal downloads are stopped on all major browsers and apps, while screen capture is prevented in mobile apps and Safari browsers.

Dynamic watermarking. Where screen capture cannot be blocked, a user-based watermark discourages it, showing details such as the viewer's IP address, user ID, email ID or phone number over the video. The FAQ says dynamic watermarking works on all major browsers and Android apps, so a leaked recording can be traced to the account that made it.

Piracy Blocker and identification. VdoCipher argues that "DRM alone is not enough" and adds tools to detect DRM breaches, password sharing and advanced piracy attempts, track each user's watch time, device and security data, and block unauthorized access. It reports having blocked 57,000+ sessions and 290 users across 2000+ websites and apps in 6 months.

Access restrictions. Backend licensing and authentication tie playback to your own users, and you can restrict access by geography or IP, time and domain, and block emulators and rooted devices.

Player, hosting and live streaming

The custom HTML5 player works on websites and in apps, with customizable colors, controls, subtitles, speed control and interactivity. The site promises a 10 minute embed integration with a ready-to-use player, and integration runs through the Embed button under each video in the dashboard. APIs, SDKs and plugins cover web, native apps, Flutter, React Native, WordPress and Moodle, which matters for course businesses running a WordPress site or a Moodle LMS.

Hosting runs on Amazon AWS and Google Cloud infrastructure "across 6 continents" with a multi-CDN, and transcoding, analytics, APIs, a dashboard and an adaptive player are included. Encoding is optimized to keep file sizes low, and AI-generated subtitles are available for English content. The tools section links a video compressor, a bandwidth calculator, a pricing calculator and a caption generator.

Live streaming is offered for events, courses and sports in HD, with an adaptive multi-quality player for site and app, interactive chat, and the ability for viewers to pause, rewind, replay and seek within the stream. The site says it scales to 100,000+ users. Its pricing menu lists three products: video hosting with DRM security, video hosting without DRM, and live streaming without DRM.

Trial and plans

Every new account starts with a free trial: 5 GB of bandwidth on sign up, uploads of up to 4 videos, full access to the security features, and no credit card required. The trial expires after 30 days, after which you subscribe to a plan. The FAQ explains how plans work: "All the plans have a validity of 1 year. Plan ends when bandwidth credit is consumed or 1 year whichever occurs earlier. There are no monthly limits." In practice you buy a year's bandwidth credit up front and can spend it unevenly across busy and quiet months. The home page does not list plan prices; it links to a pricing page, a pricing calculator and a demo booking.

Customers

The testimonials are mostly from education businesses. Taki Academy in the MENA region says it has been a customer for 8 years and grew "from 200 students to 400,000+ students and 450+ Teachers". TIME, described as a leading test prep institute in India with 100,000+ enrolled students, credits the CDN and player for its security and stability needs. Applied AI Course, a data science course platform, says it reached over 40,000 student subscribers. Smaller UK course providers, a legal webinar business and Vasani Academy, report 500+ users each. Outside education, BookMyShow uses it for premium movies for 100,000+ viewers, and an FMCG company in France says it uses VdoCipher for training content and engagement data across 9000+ team members, including watch time and completion rates.

The home page also states that customers see revenue rise "up to 81% in a year", and the figure is labeled "Average increase in Revenue Surveyed Customers agreed owing to VdoCipher", so it comes from the company's own customer survey.

Support

The site lists a phone number and a WhatsApp number in India and a support email address. Customer testimonials mention help with integration and whitelisting videos for intranets, and a broadcaster's review describes the support team as "quick and responsive during critical moments".

Who it suits

VdoCipher fits organizations whose videos are the product and are worth stealing: test prep and coaching institutes, paid course platforms, OTT services and companies with confidential training. The combination of Widevine and FairPlay DRM, user watermarking and piracy tracking goes further than the password and domain protection most video hosts offer, and the WordPress and Moodle integrations make it usable for course sites without custom development.

It asks more of the buyer than an all-in-one course platform. There is no course builder, checkout or student enrollment here, so you need your own site or LMS around it, and someone comfortable with embed codes or APIs. A creator who sells a single low-priced course, or whose content is not at real risk of piracy, will get less from the annual bandwidth model than a business with a large paying audience.
