What It Is
Interplay Learning is an online training library for the skilled trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, solar, maintenance and related fields. It combines courses with hands-on 3D and virtual simulations, and it sells mainly to the organizations that employ or train technicians, while also listing a route for individual learners. The home page states its position plainly: "Interplay Learning is the world leader in always-on, immersive skilled trades training, with over 500,000 workers trained and job-ready."
The site splits its offer into two products. The Career Development Platform is described as "Workforce skills simulations training; anytime, anywhere", and the Academy as a way to "Launch a job-ready certificate program for building trades". Solutions are listed for five audiences: small and midsize businesses, enterprises, educational institutions, workforce development organizations, and individual learners. That makes it relevant both to an employer onboarding service technicians and to a trade school or workforce program building a curriculum.
What the Library Covers
The courses page headline is "Get Full Access to 500+ Hours of Online Skilled Trades Courses", and the catalog is organized by trade. The course catalog lists HVAC, commercial HVAC, solar, plumbing, electrical, multi-family maintenance, facilities maintenance, safety, appliances, residential construction, and a NATE Training Academy. The site's industry menu adds data centers, industrial maintenance, and crane and rigging as focus areas, and its resources menu also names hospitality.
According to the courses page, the content is "built by trusted industry experts and instructional design professionals who understand what top technicians need to know." The same page says these experts cover the foundational elements, naming tools, measurements and codes, and also provide real-world use cases. The range runs, in the page's words, from "skills assessments and beginner basics to advanced troubleshooting scenarios."
Simulations and How Training Works
The feature that sets Interplay apart is simulation. The courses page promises "the right content, in the right order, with realistic 3D and virtual hands-on simulations to train technicians faster and better than ever before." The home page describes the approach in three words: effective ("Proven learning methodology makes anyone ready in weeks"), scalable ("Expert, current, always-on training for anywhere, any time skill development") and engaging ("Immersive, fun, and safe environment keeps learners interested and improving").
A testimonial from Michael Harris, Program Administrator at International Training Institute, explains why simulation matters in trades training: "when you look at an HVAC system with exposed ducts, you have no idea what's going on inside. With VR, you can now see right inside!" He says ITI uses the technology "to attract a new generation of professionals" and to change how the workforce thinks about hands-on training.
Access is not tied to a classroom. The home page describes "standardized, scalable training" that can be reached anytime and anywhere, on any device. For an employer with technicians spread across job sites, that is the practical point: new hires and experienced staff can train between calls rather than traveling to a training center.
The site also gives managers a role. Shane Bryant, Senior Director of Property Management Training at Willow Bridge, calls Interplay "a place where people can grow, develop, and build their skills" and "a place where leaders can customize plans to help coach and develop their people."
Learning Paths and Competency Paths
Content is grouped into two kinds of path. Learning paths "help learners master a specific topic in the right order." The courses page shows three examples: HVAC Service Tech (diagnostics and maintenance for current or future HVAC technicians), HVAC Cooling Basics (cooling systems with a focus on major components) and HVAC Electricity (fundamental electrical concepts, reading wiring diagrams, multimeter usage and motor diagnostics).
Competency paths "help master competencies for a particular industry area." Examples include Jumpstart: HVAC Fundamentals, which prepares learners for the NATE Ready-to-Work exam; NATE: CHP-5 Fundamentals, for the HVAC Fundamentals CHP-5 exam; Jumpstart: Electrical and Controls, covering the electrical concepts behind circuits in common HVAC equipment; and three Next Level paths, Water Heater Professional, Heating Diagnostics, and Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting for residential properties.
Certifications, CEUs and Exam Prep
This is where Interplay overlaps with test prep. The home page says learners can "Get CEUs and prepare for widely-recognized certification exams like EPA 608, OSHA 10, NATE, and more." The catalog page goes further, saying the library helps teams stay current "with continuing education units (CEU), certifications, and accreditations like NATE, IACET, EPA 608, OSHA 10 and more." The site has a dedicated Certifications and Accreditations page and the NATE Training Academy. The wording matters: the pages talk about preparing for the certification exams, so the certificate itself comes from the exam, and the course is the preparation. The Academy product is the one the site describes as a "job-ready certificate program for building trades".
Scale, Results and Support
The home page reports over 500,000 workers trained and carries the line "Trusted by 14,000+ Companies and 500,000+ Learners". The courses page uses a different banner, "Trusted by 1,000+ Companies and 130,000+ Learners", so the two pages do not agree and a buyer comparing them should read each in context. A "Real World Results" block lists survey-style outcomes, such as customers who have grown their business or cut costs and technicians who improved troubleshooting with simulations, though the percentages themselves do not render in the page text.
The site publishes no prices. The courses page calls the training "affordable" and asks visitors to submit a form to reach a representative; the main calls to action are "Get Demo", "See The Platform In Action" and "Take a Product Tour". Sales can be reached at sales@interplaylearning.com, and the courses page announces "¡Se habla Español!" (Spanish spoken) for its sales contact. A support section, a trust center, webinars, events and case studies are linked from the site.
Who It Suits
Interplay Learning suits employers in the building trades and property management that need to bring new technicians up to speed and keep experienced ones sharp: HVAC contractors, plumbing and electrical service companies, multi-family and facilities maintenance teams. The simulations are most useful where real equipment is expensive, dangerous or hard to open up, and the any-device access helps a distributed field workforce.
It also suits trade schools and workforce development programs, which the site addresses as separate audiences and which can use the Academy to run a certificate program without building one from scratch. Technicians preparing for NATE, EPA 608 or OSHA 10 exams will find structured paths for that.
It is narrower than a general training library: there is nothing here for office software, leadership or soft skills. Buyers who want a list price before a conversation will have to go through a demo or a sales form, since no plan or price is published.
