OpenSesame is a course marketplace and skills training platform for organizations. It sells licenses to a large catalog of third-party courses, delivers them into the learning system a company already runs, and adds AI tools for finding, translating and building training. The home page headline is "Better Training. Stronger Organizations.", and the line beneath it promises courses that keep a workforce "compliant, capable, and ready." The About menu says the company has been on its mission "Since 2011".
The reader is an L&D, HR or compliance team that needs a lot of ready-made training, often for a workforce spread across countries and languages, and also wants a way to turn in-house expertise into courses.
What an organization gets
The catalog
The home page promises "60,000+ pre-vetted courses in 70+ languages, with AI-powered curation that helps you find and organize the right training across multiple skills and topics." For harder cases, the page says, "Our human curation experts are here to help." The catalog menu groups training into compliance ("All your mandatory training needs, covered in one catalog"), leadership and management, industry-specific training ("From finance to healthcare, retail to manufacturing"), business skills, safety and technology, and the footer adds certifications, workplace culture and wellness. The Discover page describes the catalog as covering "compliance, safety, leadership, AI, and more." The company publishes 2026 course calendars and runs a Publish with us program for course providers who want to join the catalog. One example on the home page is a course based on James Clear's bestselling book Atomic Habits.
The solutions menu frames the catalog around jobs an L&D team has to do: keep the organization compliant, provide skills training that scales, free up time for strategy, train a diverse global workforce, and show the value of training.
AI features
OpenSesame says it does not "add AI for the sake of it" and lists four AI features on the home page:
- Translation: "Instantly adapt training for a global workforce in 70+ languages."
- Curation Assistant: "Describe one learning need or many and get relevant course recommendations organized by topic."
- AI Coach: "Practice before it counts. A safe, private space to build skills without risk."
- Course Creation: "Quickly turn expertise into training with our proprietary AI course builder."
Custom courses with Simon
For course authoring, OpenSesame offers Simon: "Simon makes it easy to build custom courses from your own expertise. Designed for SMEs, powered by AI, and grounded in learning science." The page's call to action reads "Create courses in under an hour." The Create and Translate capability ties this together, described as building custom training faster "with AI-powered course creation, translation, and LMS delivery." This is what gives OpenSesame a place among authoring tools: a subject matter expert, rather than an instructional designer, can produce a course and deliver it through the same channels as the catalog.
Skills mapping
The company's blog describes Oro Skills as an OpenSesame product that adds "AI-powered skills mapping and real-time gap analysis", helping teams connect learning to business priorities and see readiness by department, role or region.
Delivery and integration
The support article on course delivery explains how purchased courses reach learners. After buying licenses and choosing courses, an administrator clicks Deliver Courses and picks a method. The common ones are:
- Download Packages: course packages in SCORM 1.2 or AICC format, with metadata, to upload into the organization's LMS.
- AICC Launch URLs: launch URLs for platforms that accept them.
- Send to Integration: courses sent straight to a learning platform that has an OpenSesame integration.
- Quick Launch: for accounts using single sign-on (SSO) to validate learners, a launch link per course that can be shared anywhere.
- Email invitations (the option labeled "No LMS"): for organizations with "fewer than 100 learners" on CourseCloud Legacy, course invitations sent by email.
The article warns that mixing delivery methods for the same learners can give one person more than one seat license, which affects reporting, and it lists combinations that avoid this. Implementation specialists help with setup. The home page's Partner Ecosystem promise is "No matter your tech stack, we'll fit right in with the tools you use."
Track record and terms
Pricing. The site has a View Pricing page, described as "Flexible pricing options that work for any budget." The main route to a quote is Book a Demo, and a guided tour walks buyers through the OpenSesame Marketplace first. The support article makes clear that pricing is by seat license per course.
Customers. Testimonials name their writers' roles. LaRae N., a career training and development manager in insurance, reports "a steady, upward trend from our 3,000+ employee users" as her organization started year 2 of its contract. Sara Louden of American Solutions for Business values the "1:1 feedback, coaching, and assistance that we get from our Account Manager." Christina Gutierrez of Williston Financial Group says compliance training is now easier to manage, and Priscilla McCraney of Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona says the company shifted "from content creation to truly understanding our employees' needs." Donna Copeland of EOSYS values the variety of learning styles, which she says helps people stay engaged, and Janeen Carrano of the Regional Water Authority writes that the content and resources "save me hours of time." Khamel Abdulai, a talent development director at a higher education institution, credits OpenSesame with helping prepare employees after the pandemic, calling it invaluable for change management and managerial upskilling. The company blog describes its support as including curation and "a dedicated CSM to ensure ROI."
Support. The support article lists email, live chat and phone support, with separate phone lines for the U.S. and Europe. There is a knowledge base with a customer community, a system status page, release notes and a Trust Center.
Resources. The resource hub includes a blog, events and webinars, case studies, and a Workforce Reinvention executive series aimed at CHROs.
Who it suits
OpenSesame suits a mid-sized or large organization that already has an LMS and wants to fill it with a wide catalog, especially for compliance, safety and leadership, and that trains people in several languages. The SCORM and AICC packages, direct integrations and SSO links make it a content source for the systems a company already runs. The account management and curation help suit a small L&D team that cannot review thousands of courses itself, and Simon gives the same team a way to add company-specific training.
A small organization without an LMS has a narrower path, the email-based option for fewer than 100 learners, and every buyer should plan for per-course seat licensing and a demo before seeing the numbers.
