What it is

iLearn Indonesia (Interactive Learning Indonesia) is a Jakarta-based training library for banks and other financial institutions. It teaches credit, lending and banking skills to lending officers, credit analysts, account officers and their managers, and it is bought by employers for their staff rather than by members of the public. The site's own description calls it a "Center of Banking and Financial Institution Training & Consultancy" that "provides e-Learning and Blended Learning." Its office is at IIM Center, 4th Floor, Jl. Radio Dalam Raya No. 9A, Jakarta, and the training is branded with IIM throughout, as in the IIM Production House. The course pages are in Indonesian, with course titles in English.

How the training is delivered

iLearn's model is blended learning. The home page says it uses "the Blended Learning method (Combining Class Training or Online Lecture & Video Based e-Learning) for more flexible, convenient and efficient training." Staff work through video-based e-learning modules on their own and then join a class or an online lecture. The home page lists four aims for this combination, effectiveness, flexibility, concept and application, and efficiency, and spells out what each means:

  • learners can go through an e-learning module repeatedly at their own pace and join the online lectures remotely from anywhere;
  • they can learn anytime, anywhere and on any device;
  • the modules prepare participants before they join the class;
  • the approach is meant to increase productivity and reduce training cost.

For a bank with branches across the country, that means a credit team can cover the theory on video in its own time and spend the live session on application.

The course catalog

The catalog is filtered by category (General Banking, Credit & Marketing, Bank Operation and Corporate Softskill), by industry (Banking), and by department and position. Each course page states who it is recommended for and lists numbered learning objectives, written in Indonesian. Courses are numbered from 00A to 27, often in sequences that build on each other.

Accounting basics. Basic Accounting I, II and III give non-accountants the foundation for everything that follows.

Lending rationale and credit analysis. Lending Rationale starts with an introduction to credit analysis and continues through asset conversion lending, asset protection lending and cash flow lending. The cash flow lending course, recommended for lending, credit analyst, compliance and account officer roles, aims to explain repayment on a cash flow basis and what can be financed this way, the basic principles of credit risk in analyzing and structuring long-term facilities ("Mengerti prinsip dasar Credit Risk dalam membuat analisa dan penyusunan fasilitas jangka panjang"), how to set loan installments that match a company's cash flow, and examples of bank credit products.

Financial statements. Spreading I and II, Mechanic Ratio, Financial Ratio Analysis 1 and 2, Financial Statement Logic 1 and 2, Financial Statement Proforma and Working Investment. Financial Statement Logic 1 covers the principles of financial statement analysis, vertical and horizontal analysis, the five groups of financial ratios in a fact sheet, and profitability ratio analysis.

Account and credit management. Bank statement analysis (Analisa Rekening Koran), Loan Covenant, Collateral, Account Management, Industry Analysis, Credit Approval Memorandum 1 and 2, Commercial Loan Prospecting and Plant Visit. The bank statement course, recommended for lending, credit analyst and account officer roles, has eight objectives, among them building an informative statement table, detecting loans showing early signs of default, judging the profitability of a customer relationship, checking a debtor's verbal claims against their bank statements, reading a company's sales cycle over time, and recognizing fake bank or savings statements.

Problem loans. A four-part Problem Loan Management sequence runs from business failure warning signals through loan workout and problem loan diagnosis to restructuring.

Trade finance and compliance. Trade Finance 1, 2 and 3, and Anti Money Laundering.

People skills for lending teams. Introduction Legal for non-lending officers, Negotiation Skill for Lending Officers, How to Coach Lending Officer, How to Motivate Lending Officer and Marketing Team Supervision. The motivation course sets out to define motivation, apply general motivation theory to a lending team, choose when to use different kinds of motivation, build a motivating climate in the team, and design jobs that motivate account officers.

For readers coming from the finance courses side of this directory, the catalog is professional banking training: it teaches how a bank analyzes, structures, monitors and rescues loans, not personal investing.

Custom modules: IIM Production House

Banks that want their own material can commission it. The home page says the Production House helps "clients to develop their own customized e-learning modules." It lists its experience in script writing, editing and recording content, producing creative content and animation, and making video-based content "that is engaging and attractive", using the latest production tools to create high-quality modules. A bank could use this to turn its own credit policy or product procedures into the same kind of video module the catalog uses.

The learning platform

Delivery runs on a learning management system from Wizlearn Technologies, presented under the heading "Manage your own LMS for Wide Web Based Access." The home page says Wizlearn developed its own LMS software, calls it "One of the largest Internet Based Learning in Singapore", and says it serves local and overseas companies and government institutions, with "More than 300 corporate clients" and "Better in Technology and IT Security." For a client, this means the courses sit on an established platform with web-based access for staff.

Price and contact

The site publishes no prices. Organizations reach the company by the email address and phone numbers in the footer or at the Jakarta office. The menu also includes participants, clients and gallery pages.

Who it suits

iLearn Indonesia suits Indonesian banks and other financial institutions that need to train credit analysts, account officers and lending managers in a structured, step-by-step way, from basic accounting to problem loan restructuring. It fits institutions with staff spread across branches, since the video modules can be taken anywhere before a live session, and those that want custom modules made by the same team. Lending managers get their own set of coaching, motivation and supervision courses.

It does not fit learners outside banking, individuals looking for a course to buy on their own, or English-speaking teams, since the course content is written in Indonesian.
