What it is

Teacher Professional Development Services sells self-paced online professional development courses for teachers, alongside full-day and half-day workshops in Melbourne. The home page headline is "Evidence-Based Professional Learning", and the pitch is that its "certified online courses combine the information, resources, and activities of our workshops with the convenience of learning evidence-based strategies when and where it suits you."

The audience is broad within education. The home page says the courses are "Suitable for: Classroom teachers P-12, learning support, casual teachers, specialist teachers, school leaders, tertiary and adult educators, and pre-service teachers." The practical draw for most of them is registration: the FAQ says the online courses count toward the professional development hours teachers need to keep their registration in seven Australian states and territories.

The courses

The catalog lists ten online courses, each a focused topic in classroom practice, described on the page in a sentence:

  • Behaviour Management. "Evidence-based behaviour management strategies to improve student engagement and learning outcomes."
  • Collaborative Learning. "Keep your students on task, productive and cooperative during group work and whole class activities."
  • Differentiation Strategies that Work, to support diverse learners, increase engagement and improve outcomes.
  • Effective Feedback, covering feedback strategies that improve student progress, engagement, assessment and learning outcomes.
  • Engaging Families in Learning, on building partnerships with families.
  • Effective Questioning Strategies, for teachers and students, to deepen thinking.
  • Motivating Reluctant Learners, with approaches for students who are reluctant or unmotivated.
  • Teaching Metacognitive Thinking Skills, on explicit teaching of metacognitive thinking and self-regulation.
  • Spaced Learning, which "examines the evidence for distributed practice" and gives strategies for long-term memory.
  • Understanding Learning Difficulties, practical strategies for students experiencing learning difficulties and disabilities.

Two more are announced as "Available August 2026": Learning by Example: Worked Examples in Learning, and Self-Efficacy in the Classroom.

The catalog stays close to general classroom practice rather than subject content. Each course takes one strategy area and treats it in depth, which makes it easy for a teacher to pick the course that matches a goal in their own professional learning plan.

How the courses work

The site describes four features of the online courses:

  • Self paced. "Each course is structured to allow you to easily work through the material at your own pace."
  • Certified. "Certificates of completion are issued for all of our courses, listing the relevant APST addressed by each course."
  • Evidence based. "Our courses reflect the most current evidence-based research and best practice."
  • Teacher support. "Our education consultants are available to answer any questions or provide further assistance." The home page adds that its qualified experts can help with understanding course content or implementing strategies in the classroom.

Learners work from a Teacher Profile page where they can begin, resume or revisit a course, and find links to their certificates, their saved course notes and their account information. The account menu lists enrolled courses, course notes, certificates and purchase history.

The testimonials fill in the format. One learner (A.Z., 8/11/2025) liked that it was self-paced, that "the videos were helpful" and "the option to take notes on the screen". Another (T.L., 31/12/2024) praised clear language and noted that "the reflection questions made it easy to relate to my teaching practice." K.M. (11/6/2025) "liked the fact that I was able to copy the links on the resources page", so courses include a resources page with links to further reading. R.L. (17/8/2025) described content "provided in small lessons where i was able to come back to at my own pace."

Recognition for registration

The FAQ answers the question most teachers will ask first, "Does my state or territory teacher registration board recognise your courses?", with: "All of our online courses are recognised as counting toward your required hours of PD to maintain registration in Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory." The home page adds that all courses "are certified and can contribute to your annual required professional learning hours." The certificate, with its list of APST, is the record a teacher keeps for that purpose.

Prices and payment

The FAQ answers "How much are your courses?" with "Prices vary, see the course costs on the individual course information pages for more details." Each course has its own information page reached through "See More".

Payment is flexible for schools that need paperwork. A teacher can fill in a form on the course page to download an invoice, and the FAQ says offline payment can be arranged: "Absolutely, just request an invoice or visit our Payments page for more details." The account menu includes "Request an invoice or receipt" and "Pay an invoice", which suits a school paying for a staff member's course.

Workshops and support

Beyond the online catalog, the company runs "full day or half day workshops in Melbourne", with their own registration and FAQ. The online courses are built from the same material as those workshops, according to the course page.

Support hours are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, with "After hours assistance available for online study". Contact runs through a "Message Us" form and a contact page, and the business lists its A.B.N. (87940871176) in the footer.

What teachers say

Seven dated testimonials appear on the course page. S. (11/8/2025) wrote that the information "was presented in a variety of ways and was clear and concise. It also provide realistic and practical ideas." A.R. (4/11/2024) found it "sequenced logically and was a good balance of theory and practice for teaching in the classroom." K.W. (21/12/2025) said the course "provided a lot of references to further explore the content" and "referenced back to the other lessons."

Who it suits

The courses suit teachers in the seven listed states and territories who need hours for registration and want short, evidence-based courses on one classroom strategy at a time, done at home on their own schedule. Casual and relief teachers, learning support staff, specialist teachers and pre-service teachers are named as audiences, and so are school leaders and tertiary and adult educators. The invoice and offline payment options make it easy for a school to pay. Teachers near Melbourne can also take the same topics as live workshops.

It suits less well a teacher in a jurisdiction outside the seven named in the FAQ, or one who wants subject-specific content rather than general classroom strategy, since the catalog is about teaching practice across subjects. It is a course catalog, not a platform for a school to publish its own training.
