SimpleK12

Tap a star to rate

SimpleK12 is an online professional development membership for K-12 teachers, signed on its pages as "A Teachers of Tomorrow Company". Its home page headline is "Professional Development That Fits Your Life", and it promises "unlimited access to practical courses and learning pathways that help you earn certificates, stay compliant, and teach better." The stats strip reads 550,000+ educators, 2,700+ school leaders, 1,000+ courses and 50+ expert instructors.

The main reader is the individual teacher who needs professional development hours, wants practical classroom ideas or is new to the job. A second door, "For Schools/Districts", leads to partnership pages and a "Request a quote" form for schools that want to buy access for their staff.

The course catalog

The membership FAQ describes the catalog as "over 1,000 courses, ranging from 30 to 60 minutes, across 40+ education categories." The home page lists the areas as "classroom management, special education, SEL, content areas, and more", and the course filter adds topics such as compliance, differentiation and personalization, early learners, ESL and ELL, educator growth and wellness, gamification and game-based learning, mathematics, school counseling, school safety and the science of reading.

Titles shown on the home page give a feel for the range: Understanding the Anxious Generation, Tech Tools for Math Thinking: Digital Strategies, Teaching Empathy in the Classroom, Storybook STEM: Where Literacy and Science Meet, Intervention Strategies for Students with ASD, Game-based Learning with Google, Designing Meaningful Student Collaboration and 21 Days to a Joyful Classroom Reading Community.

Artificial intelligence gets its own menu entry and a free AI webinar. Lauren Boucher teaches two 60-minute courses featured on the courses page, Harnessing the Power of Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom and Work Smarter, Not Harder: AI-Powered Teacher Hacks for Every Classroom, and Dr. Samantha Fecich has an AI course of her own on the same page.

Courses are self-paced: the home page says teachers can "start, pause, and finish whenever it works for you." The membership also includes "Weekly live, interactive sessions", so there is a live element alongside the on-demand library.

Learning pathways

The other half of the product is the learning pathway, which the site describes as a series of courses organized around a topic, skill or professional goal, so a teacher follows a guided sequence "without having to figure out what to take next." Featured pathways on the home page include:

  • Science of Reading Foundations for Strong Readers, 7 courses on structured literacy, multisensory instruction, phonics, orthographic mapping, morphology, vocabulary development and comprehension.
  • AI Learning Pathways for Teachers, 4 to 6 courses on using generative AI for planning, differentiation, feedback and student engagement.
  • Addressing Challenging Behaviors: Prevention, Intervention, and Support, 7 courses, listed as 4 hours of self-paced training with a certificate and "Up to 4 CE credits". Its instructors include Támara Hill, described as a licensed therapist specializing in youth with mood and behavioral issues.
  • Special Education Pathway for General Education Teachers, 10 courses, which the site calls "a guided microcredential" covering laws, IEPs, accommodations and interventions.
  • Ready, Set, Teach: A New Teacher Success Pathway, 6 courses built for first-year and early-career educators, listed as 6 hours with "Up to 6 CE credits".

The New Teacher Pathway is taught by Dr. Samantha Fecich, and each of its 60-minute courses carries a learner rating between 4.86 and 4.95, with topics such as classroom management, assessment, collaboration, differentiation and building relationships with students. Other pathways serve substitute teachers (Substitute Teaching: Effective Strategies for Classroom Management and Student Engagement) and teachers who want to lead from the classroom. Several pathway pages offer a "Start for free" button.

Certificates and credit

Every completed course earns a downloadable certificate of completion. The FAQ says the certificate is there "to help you meet your state's professional development requirements (Clock Hours, CEUs, etc.)", and two pathways list CE credits as above. On acceptance, the FAQ is careful: "SimpleK12 serves educators in all 50 states and some internationally! Approvals vary by state and school district." It asks teachers to confirm acceptance with their school leaders or professional learning director first. A "Check my state" tool and a state requirements page are there for that check.

Members also get 50% off microcredentials, which sit above the single-course certificates.

Plans and prices

The membership page lists two individual plans with the same features:

  • Monthly All Access Membership, $29.99 a month.
  • Annual All Access Membership, $199.99 a year, shown as $16.67 a month and "Save 44%".

Both include 40+ topic categories, 50% off microcredentials, online on-demand learning, weekly live sessions, downloadable certificates of completion and "Anytime, anywhere access". Both start with a free 7-day trial; the card is saved at sign-up and charged only when the trial ends, and payments are processed by Stripe.

The FAQ sets out the terms. Monthly plans renew every 30 days and annual plans every 365 days. "We offer 14-day refunds on annual purchases. Monthly memberships are not eligible for refunds. To avoid charges, cancel during your 7-day free trial." Members manage cancellation, payment method, plan changes and billing history in their portal, called Growth by SimpleK12.

Schools and districts do not get a public price; they request a quote.

What teachers say

The home page carries short teacher stories: Rachel S., a high school English teacher, "Turned a few hours each week into a completed learning pathway"; Amanda R., a Spanish teacher, "Finished 18 courses while teaching full time"; Marcus R., a middle school science teacher, completed a STEM pathway; and Danielle P., an elementary teacher, built her literacy skills through self-paced learning.

Support

Refund requests and membership help go to support@simplek12.com, and the site's structured data lists a customer support phone number, 1-800-393-4636. There is also a contact page.

Who it suits

SimpleK12 suits a K-12 teacher who needs a steady supply of short courses and certificates for license renewal, and who wants to pay a predictable fee rather than buy courses one by one. The annual plan at $199.99 makes most sense for a teacher who will use it all year; the monthly plan suits a burst of hours before a renewal deadline, bearing in mind it cannot be refunded. New teachers, teachers moving into AI tools, and general education teachers who need special education grounding have pathways made for them. Schools can buy for whole staff through a quote.

It suits less well a teacher who needs a university credit or a course approved in advance by a specific state body, because the site leaves acceptance to the state and district. It is a content library, not a platform for a school to build and host its own courses.
