What Bridge is

Bridge is a Denver-based provider of TEFL/TESOL certification for English teachers and of Business English training for companies. The site belongs to Bridge Education Group, Inc., with its US office at 191 University Blvd in Denver and Latin American offices in Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá and Ciudad de México. The homepage splits the business into two halves: "TEFL/TESOL Certification for English Teachers" and "Corporate English & Language Learning Solutions".

Its Global Impact figures are 140 countries, "A community of over 90,000 Global English Teachers", "Trusted by over 500 Companies" and "Over 15,000 Language Learners". On the teacher side the homepage invites new teachers, career changers and experienced educators who want to specialize, and describes the certificates as "globally recognized" programs that "provide the skills and credentials needed to teach English as a foreign language anywhere in the world."

The certificate ladder

Bridge's course menu sorts its online TEFL certificates into four tiers: Professional, Foundational and Specialized TEFL/TESOL certificates, and micro-credentials. Topic groupings include 21st-century teaching skills, teaching English online, teaching young learners, CLIL (content and language integrated learning), and courses for au pairs. For classroom and blended courses, the menu has a training center finder.

The micro-credentials page explains how the tiers fit: "Layers, not levels. A certification course like the 120-Hour Global TEFL Certificate is your qualification: the thorough foundation employers ask for. A Micro-credential is a sharpening stone: short, specific, and stackable on top of that foundation." The Chile teaching guide on Bridge's blog mentions specialized certificates of 60 hours each in Teaching Business English and in Teaching CLIL Methodology, plus a 20-hour Guided Teaching Practicum and a 60-hour Practicum in Teaching English Online that give real teaching practice with feedback.

Micro-credentials for working teachers

The micro-credentials are short courses for people who already teach, "Targeted 10-to-30-hour TEFL micro-credential courses for working English teachers". Each one comes with "an accredited certificate", "a Credly badge any employer can verify" and "tutor assessment behind the credential". They are grouped into four areas:

  • Methodology and core teaching skills: Teaching English Pronunciation (30 hours, new), and 20-hour courses in Error Correction in the EFL Classroom, Teaching English as a Global Language, Materials Development for the EFL Classroom, Teaching English with Low Resources, Teaching English as a Volunteer, Teaching English Using Video, Teaching English Using Podcasts and Teaching English as a Christian Service.
  • Test and exam prep: Teaching TOEFL Test Prep, Teaching IELTS Exam Prep and Teaching PTE Test Prep (20 hours each), or all three in the 60-hour Test Prep Triple Bundle. Bridge calls these its best-selling micro-credentials.
  • Teaching English online: 10-hour courses on games and activities for very young learners, young learners, teenagers and adults, teaching online groups, and health and safety for online teachers.
  • 21st-century teaching skills: 10-hour courses on creative thinking, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, global and environmental awareness, digital literacy, leadership and career pathways, or all eight in the 80-hour 21st-Century Teaching Skills Bundle.

The FAQ fills in the practical side. There is no formal prerequisite beyond being 18 with a high school diploma, though Bridge recommends being TEFL certified first, and B1 English for non-native speakers (no proof of fluency required). Learners get three months from purchase, "fully self-paced, no log-in times, no assignment deadlines". Every micro-credential includes a personal tutor who gives feedback and answers questions inside the platform. There is no limit on how many a teacher can take.

Accreditation, credit and badges

Bridge states that it is an "ACCET Accredited Institution", describing this as "Institutional accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education". It also says the Global TEFL Certificate "is recommended for 9 undergraduate credits by the American Council on Education". The FAQ is clear about the limits: micro-credentials "don't carry ACE university credit (that's the domain of our Foundational, Professional, and select Specialized courses)". What they do carry is "Continuing Education Units (1 CEU per 10 hours) backed by Bridge's ACCET accreditation", plus the certificate and badge. The menu adds pages on Ofqual level equivalency, earning university credit, MA TESOL pathways and Crown College pathways.

Certificates are issued as Credly digital credentials, which the page describes as "permanently accessible, instantly verifiable by any employer, shareable on LinkedIn". Clicking a badge shows the course, its learning outcomes and the accreditation behind it. A Certificate Services page handles downloads, verification and hard copies.

Prices and specials

The micro-credentials page does not print prices. It says "Up to 6 Bridge courses go on special each month", with micro-credentials regularly in the rotation and the current lineup on a Monthly Specials page. Subscribers to the e-mail list get exclusive discount codes, which the page advertises as "pricing you won't find on the site", along with course recommendations. A downloadable catalog covers the full course range, and visitors can contact an advisor.

Career support and community

For teachers looking for work, Bridge runs a TEFL Jobs board, a network of Preferred Employer Partners, guides to teaching abroad and online, and a teacherpreneur section for independent teachers. The BridgeUniverse blog publishes country guides, alumni stories and ELT news, and Bridge hosts Expert Series webinars and info sessions. Its Chile guide quotes Larissa, a graduate from Brazil who found her niche teaching Business English: "I discovered my niche while living here." Another graduate, Elaine from Singapore, moved to Chile and switched to teaching Business English online; she advises teachers to learn at least A1 or A2 Spanish so they understand what their learners go through.

Business English for companies

On the corporate side, Bridge offers "teacher-powered corporate English training and Business English courses". It describes four pillars: teacher-powered learning blending "human interaction, pedagogy, and real-world application", a technology platform, training "tailored to company needs", and a commitment to results such as productivity through English proficiency. Schools and employers can also use a "Train and Certify Your Teachers" partnership to put their own staff through Bridge certificates.

Who it suits

Bridge suits two groups of teachers. Newcomers and career changers can start with a certificate such as the 120-hour Global TEFL Certificate, which carries an ACE credit recommendation. Working teachers can add 10 to 30-hour micro-credentials in exam prep, online teaching or classroom skills, each with a tutor, CEUs and a Credly badge. Companies that need English training for staff get a separate corporate program. Prices appear only through specials, subscriber codes or an advisor.
