London College of Teachers

Tap a star to rate

London College of Teachers (LCT) is an online teacher training college that describes itself as "an international teacher training college registered in the UK". It sells online and distance courses for "teachers, aspiring teachers, parents, nannies, shadow teachers, and other education professionals throughout the world", with in-class TEFL as well. The footer gives a London address at 27 Old Gloucester Street and says LCT is the trading name for AP Innovation. The home page states that London College of Teachers Ltd is registered with a UKPRN as a recognized training provider in the United Kingdom.

The site lists addresses in the United Kingdom, India (Kolkata), Thailand (Bangkok) and the United States (Nashville), with phone lines for the UK, Thailand and India. It says it supports learners "across India, Asia, and Africa", and claims it "developed the TEFL teaching market in India". The entry sits in teacher professional development and in continuing education: most of what LCT sells is a certificate, diploma or postgraduate diploma for people who teach, or want to teach, young children or English.

Joint certification with PUIE

The main selling point on the home page is joint certification with the Paris University of International Education (PUIE), which the site describes as a university with a business management and teacher preparation emphasis. Selected Diploma and PG Diploma programs across TEFL, Montessori, early childhood education, special educational needs, psychology and counseling lead to a "University Certificate Issued Jointly" by LCT and PUIE. The FAQ explains that this is one certificate, not two, "reflecting shared academic oversight", and that availability varies by program, with details on each course page.

The site says the joint certification lets learners progress "from Diploma to PG Diploma to Degree, Masters and PHD". It also says all eligible certificates are issued on the blockchain for verification, and the footer links to a certificate validation page and an Accreditations page.

TEFL and TESOL

TEFL is the largest part of the catalog. Online TEFL comes in five levels by hours:

  • TEFL Certificate, 120 hours, which the site calls a common qualification for teaching English to non-native speakers.
  • TEFL Diploma, 150 hours.
  • TEFL Advanced Diploma, 250 hours, for teachers aiming at leadership roles or more opportunities abroad or online.
  • TEFL PG (postgraduate), 350 hours minimum, aimed at experienced teachers.
  • Master in TEFL, 480 hours.

There is also an in-class TEFL course of 120 hours that includes teaching practice; the TEFL Diploma description mentions in-class training in Chennai. Shorter specialist courses cover teaching young learners (children aged 3 to 12), Business English teacher training, teaching grammar and teaching phonetics. Course content covers lesson planning, grammar instruction and exposure to different language systems. A "TEFL Worldwide" section lists in-class locations from London, Prague and Barcelona to Bangkok, Seoul and Tokyo, run "in association with, International TEFL Canada".

On eligibility the site is not fully consistent. One section says you need to be proficient in English communication, with "Any university degree" required at PG Diploma level; another says a bachelor's degree in any field and a basic understanding of English are needed for a professional TEFL program. Either way, no teaching background is required.

Teacher training courses

The teacher training page lists the other programs, each with its age range:

  • Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE): looking after and educating children aged 0 to 6, pitched at new mothers, infant carers and early years educators.
  • Montessori Teacher Training (MTT): for teachers of children aged 2 to 6, following the Montessori method.
  • Nursery Teacher Training (NTT): the social, cognitive and physical development of children aged 2 to 5.
  • Pre and Primary Teacher Training (PPTT): teaching methods for children aged 2 to 12.
  • Special Education: preparing teachers, and shadow teachers, to identify and support students with special needs.
  • International Teaching Diploma: for teachers working from preschool through primary, with 6 specializations, also offered in class.
  • Educational Administration and Management: for future school administrators, offered as a certificate, diploma and PG diploma.

The menu also lists online counseling courses and child psychology courses. Programs come at certificate, diploma and PG diploma level, and the price rises with the level.

Degree programs

A separate menu lists degree programs: a B.Ed. in TESOL and a B.Ed. in Early Childhood Education, an M.Ed. in TESOL and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education, and a Ph.D. in Education, presented in the PUIE section of the home page. The two M.Ed. programs are described as 36-credit master's degrees that can be completed entirely online, with no application fee; the B.Ed. pages say graduates receive a bachelor's degree certificate. The pages do not name an accrediting body for these degrees, so a teacher who needs a degree for a visa or a pay scale should confirm it is accepted where they plan to work.

Fees

The teacher training page prints starting prices in three currencies. TEFL starts at $185 USD, 160 GBP or 14750 INR. Montessori, nursery, pre and primary, special education, the International Teaching Diploma, ECCE and educational administration each start at 170 USD, 140 GBP or 11800 INR. The home page says fees depend on the level of TEFL training. Payment links cover PayPal in USD and separate payment pages for GBP, USD and INR.

How study works

Online courses are self-paced, and the site says they can be completed "at your convenience from anywhere in the world at your own time and pace." Testimonials on the home page describe downloadable PDFs of the chapters, exams at the end of each section, grades returned quickly, and mentors and course coordinators who reply to questions. The menu links to pages on tutor support, the evaluation process and how online courses work. On jobs, the site says "The London College of Teachers places its candidates and helps them land jobs once the programme is through" and links to a page on getting teaching jobs abroad.

Reviews

The footer shows a 4.9 rating "based on 6848 reviews from our students on Google, Facebook, Instagram & Alumni". Home page testimonials come from learners in the US, Australia, the UK, India and the UAE. Tristan Ware from Atlanta writes, "I love the fact that you can download the PDF of the chapters for future review." One reviewer, Kevin Chen, notes that on a couple of chapters "the test questions were not related to the subject of that chapter".

Who it suits

LCT suits someone who wants an inexpensive, self-paced TEFL certificate to teach English abroad or online, with the option to step up through diploma, advanced diploma and postgraduate levels, and early years and primary teachers, nannies and parents who want a Montessori, nursery, ECCE or special education qualification online. Teachers in India and wider Asia are a clear focus, given the offices, the INR pricing and the in-class TEFL in Chennai.

It suits less well a teacher who needs a credential recognized by a particular national authority: the joint PUIE certificate and the degree programs carry no named accrediting body, so that needs checking with the employer first. Course creators and training teams looking for a platform are not the audience.
