UKCPD

Tap a star to rate

UKCPD, the UK College of Personal Development, is a UK-based training provider that teaches coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), leadership and management, and personal development online. It is a learner product: people enroll on its courses and qualifications to work on their own growth, to qualify as a coach, or to build management skills they can use at work. The FAQ says the college was established in 1998, and the homepage headline calls it "The UK's Leading Provider of Accredited Coaching, NLP, and ILM Training". The same page says that for more than 28 years UKCPD has supported learners, coaches, managers, leaders and organizations through accredited personal and professional development training. The footer gives the legal name, UK College of Personal Development Ltd, and a London address, and the homepage carries a "Rated Excellent" badge.

Six course areas

The catalog is split into six areas, each with its own course listing:

  • NLP qualifications, which the homepage says run "from Foundation Diploma to Practitioner and Master Practitioner level".
  • ILM Leadership & Management qualifications "for team leaders, middle managers, senior leaders and strategic decision-makers".
  • ILM Coaching & Mentoring qualifications "for workplace coaches, managers, HR professionals and executive coaches".
  • AC & Life Coaching qualifications, accredited by the Association for Coaching "from foundation to diploma level".
  • Personal Development courses on confidence, communication, self-awareness and growth.
  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development) short courses, workshops and resources for continued learning.

According to the FAQ, programs range "from introductory and foundation-level training through to Practitioner, Diploma and advanced professional qualifications", and each course page sets out the qualification, its accreditation, the learning outcomes and the progression options. The site also sorts its offer by goal. There is a route for life coaches who want the qualifications and tools to build a practice, one for executive coaches who specialize in coaching leaders, executives and teams, and one for leaders and managers who want to lead, motivate and inspire high-performing teams.

The personal development catalog

The personal development page is where the learner-facing short courses sit, and it is the most detailed listing on the site. The page says these courses build "the skills, mindset and self-awareness needed to grow in life, work and relationships", with a focus on confidence, communication, motivation, emotional awareness, goal-setting and personal effectiveness.

Mindset and well-being courses come first. Building A Better Tomorrow: Personal Growth Course is a six-module course on the inner mental and emotional resources behind a positive future. The Happiness Toolkit: Positive Psychology for Daily Life gives practical strategies drawn from positive psychology for well-being and life satisfaction, and Investing in You: Using The Power of Positive Thinking deals with mindset and its effect on performance.

Goal-setting and habits get their own group. Set & Achieve Goals Successfully: Goal Setting Course promises to go beyond SMART goals with more advanced goal-setting strategies. Developing The Habits of Success: Achieve Your Goals covers the science of habit formation and the routines successful people use. Kick Start Your Personal Development is a quick-start course with motivation, tools and action plans, while Understanding Personal Development is the foundational option, introducing the core concepts of personal growth and a framework for keeping self-improvement going. Boost Your Self-Confidence Instantly: Practical Guide offers techniques for self-belief, posture and communication, and Managing Time Effectively: Productivity & Time Management Course covers prioritization, focus and daily productivity.

Two courses on the same page are aimed at the workplace: Delivering Effective Performance Management & Performance Appraisals, on running motivating appraisals and managing a team's performance, and Lead, Motivate & Inspire: Leadership Skills Training, on becoming a more impactful leader.

The rest are tasters for the longer qualifications. NLP: An Introduction is described as a certified CPD course on the core concepts of NLP. Why Study NLP? Discover the Benefits of NLP Training is a free course explaining what NLP is used for in personal and professional life. Discover Your Preferred Representational System looks at whether a person takes in information mainly by sight, by sound or through physical feeling, as a way to communicate better and learn faster. Life Coaching: An Introduction Online Course covers the core principles of coaching and what makes a good coach, and How to Choose a Coaching & NLP Training Provider walks through the questions to ask before picking an accredited provider. The iWAM Coaching Package: Motivation & Attitude Profile combines a detailed profile of a learner's motivational and attitudinal patterns with a coaching session to apply the results. Exploring Personal Development: Free Starter Guide is a free resource on the key ideas in personal growth.

The page says these courses suit individuals who want to invest in their own growth, as well as "coaches, managers, leaders, trainers and professionals who support the development of others".

Qualifications and accreditation

On the homepage, UKCPD says its courses are accredited, recognized or approved by professional bodies including ILM (listed as part of City & Guilds Group), the Association for Coaching (AC) and the Association for NLP (ANLP). The FAQ names IANLP alongside them. It is also careful to say that accreditation and recognition vary between programs, and that the body behind each qualification is named on that course's own page. The course menu describes the ILM coaching accreditation as globally recognized and the Association for Coaching route as an internationally recognized coaching qualification. The catalog also includes a Certified Professional CPD area, and the introductory NLP course is labeled a certified CPD course.

The site also runs Coach Connector, which it describes as its official professional directory for finding "a verified, qualified, and insured Coach or NLP Practitioner".

How the learning works

The FAQ says UKCPD provides flexible online learning supported by experienced trainers and tutors. Depending on the program, study can include live online training, tutor-supported study, practical activities, learning resources and assessment, and the support on offer can include tutor guidance, feedback, assessment support and access to the wider UKCPD community. The About section refers to an award-winning blended learning model and to a team of experienced trainers and tutors, and a non-executive Advisory Panel gives the college strategic guidance. Because study happens online, the FAQ says learners "throughout the UK and internationally" can take part, and the footer links to a page for overseas students.

Learners also get Ask Tony, which the site describes as a free AI support tool to help with their studies.

Community and free resources

The Be Inspired Group is UKCPD's free community, offered under the name College Membership, for connecting and networking with peers, with motivational content, coaching videos and exclusive live events. Around it sit the Think Big blog of articles, expert insights and success stories, UKCPD TV with practical tips, interviews and training insights, the Jump Into Success podcast with interviews and strategies, a newsletter with tips, course updates and special offers, and a bookstore of recommended reading. Short explainers answer What is NLP?, What is Personal Development? and What is Life Coaching?

The Student Stories section presents Ron Piper, Lisa Baker-Murray, Dawn Parfitt, Rachel Garnett, Iain Patton, Terina Aitken and Laura Parker as professional coaches, and Joanne Oatts as an artist, creative consultant and coach. The homepage says these stories show how accredited training, tutor support and flexible online learning can support personal growth, professional development and career change.

For organizations and referrers

The business side is visible in three places. The ILM leadership and coaching qualifications are pitched at team leaders, managers, HR professionals and executive coaches; the personal development listing carries the performance management and leadership courses; and the Business Services entry in the menu says UKCPD has been promoting individual excellence in business since 1998. A closing statement on each page says UKCPD trains learners and organizations in the UK and internationally. An affiliate program rewards people for every referral they send.

Prices and getting started

The site publishes no course prices on these pages. The main way in is a free 30-minute discovery call with the UKCPD team, which the site says gives clear guidance on course options, study routes and progression, and a FAQs page answers questions on courses, payments and tutor support. Before that call, a learner can try the free starter guide, the free Why Study NLP? course, the Be Inspired Group community and the Ask Tony tool.

Who it suits

UKCPD suits people who want a recognized coaching or NLP qualification with tutors behind it: aspiring and practicing coaches working toward an Association for Coaching or ILM award, managers and leaders on the ILM leadership track, and HR and Learning & Development professionals who coach others at work. The FAQ also names people considering a career change. Anyone who simply wants to work on confidence, habits, goals or time management can start with the short personal development courses and the free community.

The caveats are practical ones. With no prices on the site, comparing cost against other providers means contacting the team first. And because accreditation differs from one program to the next, a learner who needs a specific body behind a certificate should read the individual course page before enrolling.
