What Commune is

Commune is an online wellness school sold as a membership. It produces video courses and online workshops with well-known teachers and sells all-access membership to adults who want to work on their health, inner life and relationships at home. Its homepage describes the range as "video courses and online workshops in personal development, mindful movement, spirituality, health, environmental regeneration, and social activism."

The company frames its mission around one idea, repeated across the site: "We believe that personal growth and societal well-being are two sides of the same coin." That is why a catalog full of meditation, nutrition and yoga also teaches regenerative farming, civic engagement and how to run for office. Commune also runs a physical base, Commune Topanga in California, which the homepage calls "a laboratory for living and learning on 10 acres" and uses for retreats and events.

The course library

The courses page says Commune makes "video courses with the world’s leading teachers" and invites visitors to "Explore our 170+ courses". The membership page counts "170 + courses" and "3,000+ video practices including yoga, meditation, breathwork, goal-setting, stress relief, fitness, and much more", while the homepage offers "unlimited access to our library of 160+ courses". The library is split into four areas.

Growth covers personal development and spirituality. Examples include Starting Fresh with Dr. Gabor Maté and Daniel Maté, a 10-part workshop for parents and adult children; Spiritual Makeover with Marianne Williamson; The Work with Byron Katie; Paths of Liberation with Alan Watts; Compassionate Resilience with Sharon Salzberg; Help for the Hurting Heart with David Kessler; and Finding Business Clarity with Sophia Amoruso.

Health is functional medicine, nutrition and longevity. Dr. Mark Hyman teaches three courses, including Essential Biomarkers, which covers "more than 60 critical blood tests". Others include Navigating Perimenopause and Menopause with Sara Szal, MD, The Feel Good Blood Sugar Challenge with Jessie Inchauspé, The Brain Wellness Roadmap with Dr. Austin Perlmutter, Transforming Trauma with Dr. James Gordon, Mentally Well with Dr. Robin Berzin and Sleep Better with Dr. Michael Breus.

Impact covers environmental and civic action: Regeneration with Paul Hawken, Unwinding Prejudice with Evelyn Carter, Principles of Permaculture, The Plastic-Free Challenge, Run for Office with Julie Oliver and Organize a March.

Practice is the daily movement and contemplation side: yoga, meditation, breathwork and tapping. Courses here include Mind Like Sky with Jack Kornfield, Pause, Breathe, Be Here Now with Ram Dass and friends, and Yoga Nidra programs such as Deep Relaxation with Tracee Stanley.

How the lessons work

Courses are self-paced and short enough to fit into a day. The homepage says they come as "day-by-day lessons, practices, and self-reflection exercises ranging from just a few minutes to an hour", and the membership page puts the range at "5-minute quick hits to 60-minute master classes". Many courses are built as multi-day programs, such as 8-day and 10-day courses, or as multi-part workshops.

You can watch in a browser or in the Commune app on iOS and Android, and the FAQ says "The app makes it easy to watch or listen to courses offline". Commune is also on Apple TV and Roku. Members get "early access to every Commune course we release", and the membership page promises "NEW courses added every month".

Live classes and community

Recorded courses are not the whole membership. The membership page introduces live classes: "Access live virtual classes including yoga, breathwork, meditation, teacher Q&As, and special workshops". It also mentions "live Zoom calls with teachers" and "exclusive live online sessions with our teachers."

Members also get a private community. The homepage says members can "meet fellow seekers who are taking courses with you" and describes it as "a safe space to pose questions, share stories, get support, and engage in enriching conversations."

Plans, trial and refunds

The pricing is published on the membership page. There are two plans: a monthly plan at $20 billed monthly, and an annual plan shown as $8 per month, billed annually. The FAQ puts it this way: "You can continue enjoying Membership for $20/month or $8/month (billed annually)."

Both start with a free trial of 14 days, which the FAQ says comes with "no limitations". Commune says it will notify you before the trial ends, that you "won't be charged" if you cancel before then, and that you can cancel any time after that with "no contracts or extra payments required." On refunds the page states: "We offer a 7-day, money-back guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied with your purchase, let us know within 7 days for a full refund."

One exclusion matters. The FAQ notes that "Communiversity courses are not included as part of any membership plan and will require additional purchase to access". The site also runs free master classes, such as Detox & Gut Repair in the Modern World with Dr. Alejandro Junger, described as a "free 30-minute master class".

Podcasts, events and extras

Commune publishes two podcasts. The Commune Podcast is hosted weekly by Jeff Krasno and covers topics "from nutrition and integrative medicine to spirituality and personal growth to environmental regeneration and civic engagement." The Luminescence Podcast with Schuyler Grant focuses on women's health. Its events menu lists retreats and Luminescence LA, and the homepage promotes a women's health and longevity summit in Los Angeles that invites visitors to "join 2,000 health-inspired women for this special in-person experience."

Two side businesses round out the site. The Commune Marketplace lists wellness brands with discount codes for the community, and the page is open about how it works: "We’re selective about who we work with, and partners pay for placement." It adds that products "are sold and fulfilled by the partner, not by Commune." There is also a line of organic cotton apparel made with Farm Fresh Clothing Co., all marked sold out on the apparel page.

What members say

The membership page carries short member quotes. Gunda writes, "Commune made me love my life again." Emily says the courses "have helped me navigate some big decisions and helped me to see my new path ahead." Angela uses it "regularly for yoga, meditation, and breathwork courses."

Who it suits

Commune suits an adult who wants a broad wellness library in one subscription: meditation and yoga for daily practice, health courses from named doctors, and personal growth teaching from well-known authors. At the annual rate it is a modest monthly cost for a large catalog, and the 14-day trial plus the 7-day money-back guarantee make it easy to test. People who care about environmental and civic issues will find a whole strand on regeneration and civic action.

It fits less well for someone who wants one structured program with a set sequence and a teacher who knows them, since most courses are self-paced and the live classes sit on top of a recorded library. Learners who need a professional qualification in yoga, nutrition or coaching should look to dedicated training providers, and buyers should note that Communiversity courses cost extra.
