Tap a star to rate

RosterElf is Australian workforce software for shift-based businesses, covering rostering, time and attendance, award interpretation, payroll exports, HR records and team chat, and its HR Hub includes an employee training module. It is not a course platform for selling courses; it is a way for a cafe group, retail chain, care provider or childcare center to build its own inductions and compliance courses, assign them to staff and prove they were completed. RosterElf Pty Ltd gives its address as Mount Hawthorn, WA, the site calls the product "Australian-made", and it runs separate sites for the UK and New Zealand. The training page says RosterElf is used by more than 30,000 workplaces.

How the training module works

The training page sums it up as "Employee training in three steps": build a course once, assign it to the right people, and see who has completed it. Training is switched on in Settings under HR Hub, after which a Training area appears in the HR Hub menu.

A course has a title, a pass rate, an estimated completion time and a description, and can hold one module or many. Each module can carry text, documents, video links and images, plus multiple-choice questions to check understanding. Courses can be duplicated, previewed, edited and archived, so a business can keep a tidy library and reuse a course for another team or role without starting over. An edit to a published course, whether to the content, the pass rate or the description, applies the next time an employee opens it. The FAQ says most businesses build and assign their first course in under an hour.

Assigning is quick. A manager can send a course to every employee by selecting All, or search for and pick specific staff, which is how a course goes to one team or to new starters only.

The learner side

Staff complete their training in My HR Hub, either in a web browser or in the RosterElf smartphone app, on a phone, tablet or desktop. They select Training and press Start course. The page stresses that there is no separate login to remember and no printing or paperwork, which is the point for shift workers who are rarely at a desk and already use the same app to see their roster, swap shifts and clock on.

Tracking and compliance records

Opening a course and pressing Stats shows a real-time progress overview for every assigned employee. From there a manager can search for one person, view their detailed results and send reminders to anyone who has not finished. For a company-wide view, the HR Hub Training Summary report under Reports gives a completion record that the page says can be relied on "for compliance audits and workplace safety reviews."

Every completed course is stored against the employee's profile with the completion date and result. That profile also holds contracts, policies and procedures, and licenses and certifications, which is the main difference from a standalone LMS: the page argues that because courses, assignments and results sit in the same system as the roster, there is no separate training system to reconcile.

The compliance topics the page names are work health and safety (WHS), food safety, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), cyber security, manual handling and company policies and procedures. The FAQ adds data privacy awareness, anti-discrimination and harassment, and standard operating procedures. The business builds these courses itself in the course builder. Pairing training with the license and certification tracking, which records required documents, expiries and acknowledgements, gives what the page calls "a full compliance picture".

Onboarding

Training plugs into the onboarding workflow. Induction courses, workplace policies and role-specific SOPs can be assigned alongside the other HR Hub onboarding steps, so required training sits on every new hire's first-week checklist and can be completed before the first shift. Digital onboarding also sends contracts, policies and tax forms for new starters to complete before day one.

The rest of the platform

Training is one part of a wider workforce system. The home page lists rostering with live wage costs, GPS and photo-verified clock-ins, timesheet approvals, automatic penalty rates and Fair Work award rules with support for 100+ awards, one-click payroll export to Xero and MYOB, leave management, in-app messaging, announcements with read receipts, and reports on labor costs, attendance and HR compliance. Its Perfect Match feature suggests available, qualified staff for a shift based on skills, availability and cost. Employees can be imported by CSV, and the menu lists Google Calendar sync plus ChatGPT and Claude connections for AI automation and a rostering assistant.

Pricing

The home page lists three plans, each priced in AUD per employee per month plus GST and billed annually: Core (rostering and time and attendance) at $6.00, Full Suite (rostering, payroll and HR in one) at $7.00, and HR (HR tools only, covering onboarding, documents and policies) at $3.00. The FAQ gives the monthly-billing rates for the first two: Core at $8 a month and Full Suite with HR Hub at $10. Training belongs to the HR Hub add-on, so a business that wants it alongside rostering needs a plan that includes HR Hub.

Billing is per active employee: staff who have left, are on extended leave or are inactive do not count. There are no setup fees and no lock-in contracts; billing is month-to-month, and annual plans are discounted. Every plan comes with a free 15-day trial with full access to every feature and no credit card, and the FAQ says data and settings are kept when the trial ends.

Support

Support comes from an Australian team by phone, email and live chat, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm AEST, with email monitored outside those hours and a help center with video tutorials and guides available 24/7. New customers get free onboarding help with configuring awards, importing employees and setting up first rosters, group training sessions are available, and the onboarding team can assist with migration from another tool. Free 30-minute demos and support calls can be booked.

Who it suits

RosterElf's training module suits Australian shift-based businesses in hospitality, retail, healthcare, childcare and licensed venues that need to deliver and prove WHS, food safety, RSA and induction training without running a separate LMS. A multi-site operator gets the same course content at every venue and one record per employee. It is a focused tool for required training that the business writes itself, so an organization that wants a broad development catalog, bought-in content or advanced e-learning formats will be better served by a dedicated LMS.
