Tap a star to rate

Relias is a learning management system built for healthcare organizations, sold as the Relias Platform and described on its product page as "more than a standard healthcare LMS". It is aimed at the people who run training in a care setting: L&D managers, compliance directors and education leads who have to assign mandatory courses, keep licensed staff on top of continuing education and prove it all to a surveyor. Relias LLC lists an address in Morrisville, North Carolina, and the platform's state regulation pages and customer stories are about US providers. The LMS page's FAQ says Relias serves 12,000 customers and trains 4.5 million caregivers across acute, post-acute, behavioral and community health; the home page counts 13,000 customers.

Who it is built for

The company's "Who We Serve" menu shows how wide the healthcare net is. It names hospitals and health systems (from large multisite systems to critical-access hospitals and staffing agencies), post-acute and long-term care (skilled nursing, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living, rehab therapy and hospice), behavioral and community health (intellectual and developmental disabilities, applied behavior analysis, community health centers and children, youth and family services), home health and home care, ambulatory care, physician practices and government organizations at federal, state and local level. Individual healthcare workers are a separate audience, served through login portals such as Relias Academy, FreeCME and Nurse.com.

Running training on the platform

The LMS page lists the administrative core. Administrators can assign full collections of training specific to staff roles, so each role gets its own set of courses without one-by-one enrollment. Blended learning lets a team track conferences, events and other training types inside the platform, not only online courses. A course authoring tool turns a team's existing presentations into functional courses, and administrators can build their own training and learning paths aligned with performance goals. Reporting goes past completion lists to real-time dashboards meant to support compliance and show leaders where staff readiness stands.

Implementation is pitched as quick: the page says organizations can "Launch in 30 days with minimal IT lift." The same section says Relias supports SCORM, AICC and xAPI, which means content bought elsewhere or built in an authoring tool can run alongside the Relias library.

Beyond those basics the platform adds tools aimed at healthcare workflows. Personalized learning paths assign prescriptive training based on each employee's role and learning needs. Policy and procedure management lets an organization upload, distribute, revise and report on its policies electronically next to its training. Requirements tracking manages licenses, credentials and other requirements, so licenses and credentials sit in the same system as the training records. A skills checklist records staff abilities and highlights skill gaps, and competency tracking keeps competencies in one platform. The wider Relias menu sells further modules on top: competency management, validated assessments that gauge job fit with clinical, behavioral and situational questions, a nurse onboarding solution and an obstetrics solution.

The course library and continuing education

Content is where Relias separates itself from a bare LMS, and the pages give several figures for it. The LMS page's comparison box lists "4,500+ accredited courses from 250 trusted bodies" and education built by "700+ in-house clinical and learning experts", while its content section speaks of "5,000+ courses created by medical experts and national leaders and 387,000+ custom courses developed by customers." The home page says Relias has over 3,000 courses built by in-house healthcare and adult learning experts. The library covers clinical, continuing education and compliance training, organized into more than 100 libraries that the page says are each reviewed at least every three years. The footer names some of them: rehab therapy, revenue cycle, wound care certification, mandatory training, clinical development, professional development, continuing education and certification review.

On accreditation, the FAQ says Relias content carries 250 unique certificates issued by more than 200 accrediting bodies, and that "Relias LLC is jointly accredited by the ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC as an ICPE provider." The page also says Relias tracks and updates requirements for over 135 national accrediting bodies and multiple state regulatory boards, and that licensed staff get free CE and CME through the platform. For mandatory training, the compliance library includes American Heart Association courses. One customer quote on the home page, from a learning specialist at CSIG, puts the upkeep in practical terms: "courses are updated without special requests or extra charges."

How staff learn

Formats range from interactive and blended training to microlearning, which the page describes as five-minute-or-less modules aimed at critical skills. Scenario-based learning lets staff make decisions and see the outcomes in a risk-free setting. Relias also has its own spaced learning tool, BrainSparks, which uses spaced learning and automated memory boosters to help staff retain what they learned. Gaming elements tied to training performance are offered to raise motivation.

Staff can reach training and alerts from a phone through the Relias Learner mobile app, which the page says is available for Apple and Android devices. Outside the course player, the home page describes online communities connecting nurses, physicians, allied health professionals and learning administrators.

Integrations, standards and security

The FAQ names the HR and workforce systems Relias connects with: Paycor, AlayaCare, UKG, ContinuumCloud and LaborEdge, with API integration for Workday described as coming soon. The company's buyer's guide argues that an HR integration removes manual work such as creating new learner profiles by hand.

On security, the FAQ lists advanced encryption, strict access controls, proactive data backups and disaster recovery plans, and says Relias is "AICPA SOC 2 compliant and is undergoing FedRAMP® In Process authorization." That last point matters for the federal, state and local agencies the company lists among the organizations it serves.

Pricing and support

The site publishes no prices; every route leads to a demo request or a conversation with sales. For help after purchase, the home page says Relias has customer success, support and professional services teams that customize, implement and integrate its solutions into existing systems, and a Help Center and account support page sit in the site's resources.

Relias's own buyer's guide on its blog, which compiles G2 data, is candid about the product. It rates Relias as best for "Healthcare, behavioral health, senior care, post-acute providers", credits its healthcare-specific content library and onboarding automation, and lists as its potential limitation that it "Can be unintuitive and lacks some features." A buyer should weigh that during a demo, with their own administrators clicking through the interface.

Who it suits

Relias fits a healthcare employer that wants the LMS and the clinical content from one vendor: a senior living group that has to keep caregivers current on mandatory topics, a behavioral health provider with state-specific training rules, a hospital education team managing CE for licensed staff, or a home health agency that needs training on a phone. The accreditation work, the state regulation tracking and the HR connections are the reasons to choose it over a general LMS. A company outside healthcare will get little from a library built around clinical and regulatory topics, and a buyer who mainly wants a simple course player should check that the extra modules and the interface suit their administrators before signing.
