ProProfs Training Maker is a cloud-hosted learning management system and course builder for employee training, compliance and skill assessment. It is built for HR teams, training managers and business owners who need to put staff through courses and prove they finished them, and its homepage calls it the "World's easiest LMS & course builder for employee training, compliance & skill assessment." The product comes from ProProfs, whose site copyright line starts in 2005 and which also makes a quiz maker, a survey maker and a knowledge base that plug into Training Maker. The homepage reports more than 100,000 courses and tests created and more than 4 million learners.
What a training team gets
AI course creation. The homepage opens with a course generator. A trainer types a topic, speaks it, or uploads a file (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, JPG, PNG, JPEG or MP4), and the AI Course Builder produces chapters, content and structure ready for learners. The AI Course Assistant then edits on request: adding chapters, improving section titles, rewriting content or restructuring the course. Other AI features named on the homepage include learning path automation, where the AI builds personalized paths by job role, department or progress; AI voiceovers that turn written content into narration through Google Text-to-Speech in multiple languages; AI reports that flag completion and engagement problems and knowledge gaps; and an AI report summary that puts the key takeaways at the top of each report. The generator shows an upgrade prompt once an account reaches its AI course limit.
Building by hand. Courses can also start from a template or from scratch. The homepage lays out five steps: browse templates or start blank, add images, quizzes, tests, videos and presentations, customize with a logo, theme and brand colors, share with learners, and track progress in real time. Existing PowerPoints, videos and PDFs can be turned into online courses, and the FAQ adds YouTube videos and embed codes as sources. Templates include employee benefits information, onboarding and company introduction, and employee and office policies.
Ready-made courses. The library holds more than 500 premium courses that can be used as they are or edited. Compliance titles include sexual harassment, OSHA compliance, HIPAA compliance and drug-free workplace training. Workplace safety titles include fall protection, hazardous materials general awareness, Ontario health and safety awareness, and protection from coronavirus. Employee skills titles cover new employee onboarding, workplace conflict resolution, persuasion and negotiation, and remote work. A custom course development service is listed for teams that want ProProfs to build content for them.
Quizzes and assessments. The homepage cites a question bank of more than 1,000,000 ready-to-use questions, more than 100k customizable skill assessments for uses such as pre-employment testing, and more than 15 question types including multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, true/false, video response and hotspot.
Making sure people do not skip. The FAQ describes several controls. Time limits can stop learners skipping pages, and the same setting works on videos so a learner has to watch before moving on. Quizzes at the end of a chapter can carry a minimum score before the learner can proceed. Administrators can open the audit log for each learner and see how much time was spent on the course and on each page.
Administration, reporting and compliance
The FAQ ranks its course completion tracking among the most thorough available, down to the individual: who has taken and completed a course, who has not started, learner activity and progress, and deadlines, with automated reminders and alerts. Reports show who completed which training, time spent in a course or in each module per learner, and scores, and can be downloaded or shared online. Surveys collect feedback on instructors and course content, and certificates can be managed for individuals, teams or locations.
Administrators organize learners into groups with roles and permissions, and multiple instructors can collaborate and share. The feature list also names learning paths, personalized portals, branding with a custom color scheme and logo, virtual classroom software, and gamification. For instructor-led training and webinars, the FAQ says any offline training activity can be recorded in a training record store, which then serves as the central record of all training.
Standards, integrations and security
The FAQ says Training Maker integrates with major HR systems, CRMs and email marketing tools, and names BambooHR, Salesforce, TribeHR, Mailchimp and TinCan / SCORM as popular integrations; Tin Can API has its own feature page. Custom integrations with an organization's user management system or reporting tools run through ProProfs's API, and the course generator mentions more than 100 integrations. Logins can be handled through single sign-on and two-factor authentication. The interface supports English, Spanish and more than 70 other languages. The footer links to Trust, GDPR/CCPA and Accessibility pages.
Pricing and support
The company's own comparison posts give the pricing. Training Maker is "Forever free for up to 10 learners." Paid plans start at $1.99 per active learner per month. The posts say the free plan includes unlimited courses and storage, automated enrollment, certificates issued on completion, and unlimited quizzes and surveys, while a dedicated account manager comes only with paid plans. Training Maker can also sell courses, and the free-platforms post says it has payment gateway integration and coupons and charges no transaction fees on the free plan. The same posts list two drawbacks: there is no downloadable or on-premise version, and no dark mode.
ProProfs makes a point of human support. Product experts answer the phone Monday to Friday, 8AM to 6PM EST; live chat promises an agent in under 2 minutes, 24/7; email replies are guaranteed within one business day; and a help center holds more than 1000 articles and video guides. Sign-up needs no credit card, and demos are available on request.
Case studies on the homepage cover Acer, which built a system to train and certify its employees; CDPH, which trains volunteers and residents; Thermo Fisher Scientific, which trains hundreds of global employees; and Olympiad Tester. A safety manager quoted on the homepage, Troy Marble, says ProProfs "has allowed us to provide over 3,000 sessions so far."
Who it suits and who it does not
Training Maker suits small and mid-sized employers that need compliance and safety training running quickly: the ready-made sexual harassment, OSHA, HIPAA and safety courses, the reminders and the per-learner audit logs answer that need without a course designer on staff. A team of up to 10 learners can run on the free plan, and growing teams pay per active learner, which keeps cost tied to actual use. HR teams that test candidates or staff get a question bank of more than a million questions, and the AI builder helps a trainer turn a policy document into a course in one sitting.
It is less suited to an organization that requires an on-premise LMS, since the product is cloud only. Larger teams should model the per-active-learner price against their headcount before committing.
