PlusPort is a Dutch learning platform that puts a learning management system (LMS) and a learning experience platform (LXP) in one product. HR and L&D teams use the LMS side to manage mandatory training and certifications, while employees use the LXP side to find learning that fits their own role and ambitions. The company's FAQ describes it as an online environment where organizations bring together all their learning and development, so HR keeps control of compliance and staff get a learning environment that motivates them. PlusPort B.V. is based in Zoetermeer, and the FAQ adds that PlusPort is part of Visma. The platform FAQ says it suits organizations from about 200 employees, in sectors such as healthcare, industry, government and business services, and the homepage says PlusPort supports hundreds of organizations.
The LMS and LXP in one place
The homepage frames the problem plainly: most organizations face two challenges at once, managing mandatory training and giving employees a good learning experience. PlusPort's answer is one platform for both, "Geen losse systemen, geen extra licenties" (no separate systems, no extra licenses).
The LMS side manages trainings, certifications, progress and reports in one central place. Recurring tasks run automatically, so enrollments, reminders and other key actions are followed up on time without manual work from HR or L&D. A single overview shows which employees are following which training, where progress is lagging and what action is needed. The platform page calls the result "Altijd klaar voor audits" (always ready for audits): certifications, deadlines and mandatory activities are tracked centrally, with current figures on hand for inspections and reports.
Certificate tracking is the feature the site returns to most. According to the FAQ, PlusPort automatically watches the expiry date of certificates and sends reminders in good time to both employees and their managers, and dashboards show at a glance who is certified and where action is needed, so nothing has to be tracked in Excel any more. A customer quoted on the booking page sums it up: "Iedere medewerker heeft zijn eigen dossier en alle diploma's die kunnen verlopen worden bewaakt" (every employee has their own file, and every diploma that can expire is monitored).
The LXP side helps employees find learning activities that fit their role, goals and working day. Administrators can build personal learning paths matched to each employee's job, goals and ambitions, and learning is meant to happen in short moments between daily tasks. The platform works fully on desktop, tablet and smartphone, so staff are not tied to a fixed workplace.
Content: partner library, own courses and AI authoring
The training library gives access to thousands of trainings from partners. The partners page explains that PlusPort works with a range of training providers, which it calls its "Friendopleiders", so there is always a course that matches an organization's learning goals. The partner list leans heavily toward occupational health and safety, with providers of ARBO and safety training, working at height, fall protection, offshore and maritime safety, forklift training and VCA exams, alongside healthcare refresher training, IT training, construction and infrastructure, real estate, online marketing and postgraduate programs.
PlusPort also runs its own course offer for individual learners, with a separate login for course participants. The course menu lists VCA (VCA Basis, VOL VCA and VIL VCU certification), NEN 3140 for safe work on electrical installations, safe working along the road, HACCP food safety, Sociale Hygiëne for hospitality and retail, and BHV company emergency response covering first aid, evacuation and firefighting.
For in-house content, the AI Auteurstool (AI authoring tool) is presented as a way to design e-learning easily for your own organization. Existing e-learning comes in through common standards such as SCORM, so content does not have to be rebuilt, and external learning tools and content libraries can be connected through LTI and offered from inside the same environment.
Buddy, the personal learning coach
Buddy is PlusPort's AI learning coach, working inside the LMS that employees already use. It helps them find the right training, keep track of progress and manage certificates. Employees ask questions about their training, certificates or career and get a personal answer straight away. The Buddy page stresses that it is "Geen losse chatbot naast je systeem" (not a separate chatbot next to your system) but a coach that understands the organization's training offer, learning paths and context. The aim is fewer simple, repeated questions for HR and L&D, more autonomy for employees and more use of the platform.
PlusPort says Buddy is AVG-proof (AVG is the Dutch name for the GDPR), multilingual and available without extra installation. Organizations can try it in three steps: leave their details, have a short call where an adviser shows Buddy, and then have it switched on in their own PlusPort environment. The company also runs live webinars where an AI specialist demonstrates it.
Performance management and administration
Alongside learning, PlusPort offers a performance management module built around goals, feedback and conversations, and a Learning Service Provider service aimed at optimizing training and reducing administrative work. On the technical side, the platform page lists:
- a link to common HR systems, so new employees are created and leavers removed automatically;
- single sign-on with existing company accounts, so staff need no extra password;
- SCORM import for existing e-learning;
- full branding with the organization's own logo and colors, and its own domain name if wanted;
- LTI connections to external tools and content libraries;
- an open API to connect intranet and competency tools.
The FAQ also says PlusPort meets strict European privacy and security standards because it is part of Visma, and that customers are supported from day one by PlusPort's own implementation and support specialists. After a short onboarding, a team can assign trainings, invite employees and monitor progress.
Customers, community and how to buy
The case studies page names the Enschede Academie of the municipality of Enschede, Fokker Techniek (in aviation, under the headline of guaranteeing 100% compliance), Eurofins (a smooth LMS implementation in three phases), Corparis, Jeugdbescherming West and Bazalt Groep. The sector menu covers construction and infrastructure, industry, energy, healthcare, government, education and business services.
PlusPort also builds a user community. Inspiration sessions, webinars and Lunch & Learn sessions bring L&D professionals together; the platform page says it started with a group of five professionals and now draws hundreds of PlusPort users and peers. A podcast, Quick Learning Talks, interviews HR and L&D professionals and lands in subscribers' inboxes every other week.
The site publishes no prices. Buyers choose between three appointment types: a 15-minute introduction, a 30-minute standard demo of the main features, or a 60-minute extended demo with room for detailed questions. The platform page also offers a five-minute demo video in which a product specialist walks through how PlusPort works. Contact runs through a phone line and the info@plusport.com address. The site is in Dutch, with an English language switch.
Who it suits and who it does not
PlusPort fits a Dutch organization of a couple of hundred employees or more that has to keep certificates current, particularly in construction, industry, energy or healthcare where VCA, NEN 3140, BHV and similar safety courses are routine. Expiry reminders to both employee and manager, audit-ready overviews and the partner library of safety and professional training answer that need directly. HR teams that also want employees to steer their own development get the LXP and Buddy in the same license, and IT teams get SSO, HR-system sync, SCORM, LTI and an open API.
It is less suited to a very small company, given the stated fit from about 200 employees, and to a creator selling courses to the public, since the platform is built for training an organization's own staff. Teams outside the Netherlands should note that the site and its course offer are written for a Dutch audience.
