MentorKit

Tap a star to rate

MentorKit is a Norwegian-made e-learning kit that combines a course authoring tool with a learning management system. The site says it helps businesses and individual course creators create, manage and deliver online courses for training, onboarding and knowledge sharing, so it serves both an organization training its people and a creator selling courses from their own website. It is developed by Norsk Interaktiv AS, which the home page describes as a Norwegian company with more than 20 years of experience in digital learning, with a main office in Kristiansand and a department in Karmsund. The home page calls MentorKit a secure, GDPR-compliant platform hosted in data centers operated and owned by Norwegian companies, and a separate page on the site is headed "MentorKit is 100% operated and owned by Norwegian companies".

The product suite

MentorKit is sold as a set of products that can be used alone or together, and the site's pricing tool helps a buyer work out which one fits.

  • Course Creator is the authoring tool. The home page calls it "a powerful yet easy-to-use course creation software that lets you develop engaging online courses without any coding", and says it is 100% cloud-based and runs in the browser.
  • LMS Classic is the core learning management system for delivering and managing online courses, a cloud-based learning portal that the home page says has been continually refined since 2003, "making it one of the most established e-learning systems in the Nordics".
  • Suite Classic combines Course Creator and LMS Classic into one integrated platform, designed for organizations that want full control over both course creation and course delivery without complexity or heavy customization.
  • Suite Pro pairs Course Creator with LMS Pro. The site calls it its advanced lineup for organizations that need maximum flexibility, integration and control, and the menu describes it as the most advanced Norwegian-owned and hosted learning management system with a course creator.
  • Assist is a range of consulting services meant to see an e-learning project through from start to finish. The company says launching digital training is not just about software but also about strategy, content and people.

Building courses

For readers who need an authoring tool, Course Creator is the part to look at. It needs no coding and no installation, since it runs in the browser, and a guide on the site says it makes it easier to organize content, create interactive pages and export a course to different learning platforms. That export means a course built in MentorKit does not have to stay in a MentorKit LMS.

The same guide sets out how the company thinks a good online course is built: a clear structure of modules, lessons and practical examples, focused lessons that are easy to follow, and multimedia such as video, images and quizzes to keep learners engaged. Another post on the company blog shares techniques for multimedia, interactivity and storytelling that it says were tested in MentorKit Creator. Course Creator also has a free starting point: the site invites visitors to get started for free and to test MentorKit for free.

LMS Pro, WordPress and selling courses

LMS Pro is where MentorKit meets WordPress. The home page says that with LMS Pro you get the freedom to style the front end and to decide how courses are sold or distributed, adding: "Powered by the biggest CMS in the world, WordPress, you can easily scale the business logic of your company." Customers can also host LMS Pro themselves in a self-hosted setup instead of using MentorKit's hosting. A testimonial from Julie Gustavsen, System & Support Manager, mentions "The MentorKit Pro LMS SaaS solution", so LMS Pro is also run as a hosted service.

The WordPress link is also how course creators sell. The home page counts MentorKit's official open source extensions in the WooCommerce Marketplace, and the footer links to its WooCommerce plugins. The company's step-by-step guide to selling courses online explains that a WordPress-based LMS combined with WooCommerce lets you sell courses directly from your own website, through a course store where buyers purchase courses online, get access automatically after payment, use discount codes or bundles, and reach the training directly through the LMS. The guide closes by presenting Course Creator together with WordPress and WooCommerce as a way to keep full control of the platform, the content and the revenue.

For organizations rather than sellers, the same guide describes a learning platform's job as managing learners, tracking course progress and issuing certificates or documentation, and notes that many course developers choose solutions that integrate with websites and e-commerce systems.

Support, data and customers

The site links to a helpdesk, a published Service Level Agreement and a privacy policy, and its "Who we are" section includes pages on why to choose MentorKit and on owning your data. The site itself is available in English, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish.

Customer stories on the home page feature The Norwegian Farmers' Union, ScaleAQ, Skanska Norway and Good bread, and Transocean appears among "Some of Our Clients". Julie Gustavsen's testimonial says the Pro LMS SaaS solution, combined with MentorKit Assist, "has enabled us to produce high-quality courses quickly", and praises the combination of a reliable platform and a responsive service team that understands how they want to develop their training content.

Pricing and trying it

The site publishes no price list. Its pricing section works as a configurator: you select the features you need to see which product or suite fits your learning setup, then adjust the number of course creators and active users to match your needs and scale. That makes the two main price drivers clear, the count of authors and the count of active learners, even without published figures. Buyers can test MentorKit for free or book a demo with the team.

Who it suits

MentorKit suits Norwegian and wider Nordic organizations that want their training data hosted by Norwegian-owned providers under a GDPR-compliant setup, and teams that want authoring and delivery from one vendor without a complex rollout. Suite Classic fits companies that want a proven cloud LMS with an authoring tool attached, while Suite Pro fits those that want to shape the front end, connect other systems and perhaps host the LMS themselves. Individual course creators and consultants who already run WordPress get a route to selling courses through WooCommerce on their own site, and L&D teams that only need an authoring tool can use Course Creator and export to the platform they already have.

The caveats are about effort and budgeting. Self-hosting LMS Pro means running a WordPress installation yourself, and prices come from the configurator or a sales conversation rather than a public table.
