LENA is an Austrian training platform built for one job above all: the recurring, legally required instruction that companies have to give their staff on safety, hygiene, fire protection and similar topics. Its German-language site calls it "Die Unterweisungssoftware für Unternehmen" (instruction software for companies) and promises training that is legally sound and employee-friendly while saving time and resources. It is made by Lena Digital GmbH in Vienna, and the site has versions for Austria, Switzerland and Germany. The e-learning page frames the goal as putting employee training "auf Autopilot" (on autopilot): build a course once, assign it, and let the system handle reminders, tests, certificates and records.
Building courses
LENA's editor is designed to produce responsive e-learning in minutes. The e-learning page lists what it can do: courses optimized for smartphone, PC and tablet, a free image library, embedding of existing PowerPoint files, PDFs and training videos, a range of design options, AI translation into more than 25 languages, and automatic test creation based on your own content. The feature menu adds an AI-assisted authoring tool and AI-assisted import of existing trainings, so a company can bring in material it already has rather than starting from scratch.
The translation feature matters for workforces with many first languages. Paula Geith of Frank & Söhne AG says: "In LENA können wir unsere Schulungsinhalte auf Knopfdruck in mehr als 25 Sprachen übersetzen" (in LENA we can translate our training content into more than 25 languages at the push of a button). Sigrid Kainz, quality manager at Heidi Chocolat AG, says instructing staff in several languages and with many photos from their own working day is simple with LENA.
Companies that do not want to write courses at all can start from templates. The LENA Shop holds training templates for more than 100 topics across all kinds of industries, and the page offers the first three free when a demo is booked. The template menu sorts them by topic (safety instruction, food, fire protection, hygiene, office workplaces, cybersecurity, compliance, sustainability, visitor instruction, home office, electrical engineering and operating instructions) and by industry (waste management, restaurants, hotels, logistics and transport, and construction). Two managing directors quoted on the home page, at mabes and Buntmetalle 21, say the ready-made templates were adapted to their business in a few clicks.
Running the training
The home page sums up the workflow in four steps: create a training and let AI generate the questions, assign it to individual groups, let employees complete it on their own, and keep track in a real-time dashboard. For legally sound compliance and safety e-learning, the site points to tests, training certificates, reporting, feedback and recurring dates (Serientermine), which schedule repeat instruction so it does not have to be reassigned by hand each year.
Administration covers employee management, groups and a training matrix. Groups can be nested: Clever Fit says that creating groups and subgroups lets it send targeted training to studio teams at different locations. Donau Chemie's head of safety, environment and quality says the software stays flexible and clear even with multi-level structures and different processes, and that the app helps with carrying out training. Staff can take courses in the browser or through the LENA app.
LENA also handles training that is not online. Sabine Graffelner, EHSS specialist at SABIC, says the company uses it for employee training and for safety briefings for visitors and contractors, has mapped its in-person training sessions into LENA, and can call up every training record at the push of a button.
Add-ons include customizing, on-premise hosting, login by QR code or NFC, and interfaces to other systems. Hosted data stays in Austria: the home page describes legally sound certificates, tests and reports "mit einem DSGVO-konformen Serverstandort in Österreich" (with a GDPR-compliant server location in Austria). DYWIDAG chose the on-premise route and writes "LENA wurde bei uns on premise umgesetzt. So sauber, einfach und schnell" (LENA was implemented on premise for us, so clean, simple and fast), adding that the LENA team's support was there at all times.
Proof for audits
Documentation is the point of instruction software, and customers say so. Heidi Chocolat says the evaluation options and certificate archive keep audit preparation and records close at hand, and that any retraining is documented without much admin. Innoweld says its employees complete their required instruction on their own and that it has met all official requirements with proof. INTERGEO, which trains staff at the companies it looks after, says LENA leads to more workplace safety and reduces the risk of accidents and occupational illness.
Scale and customers
The home page shows 1,082,991 completed trainings, 47,716 users and a 4.9-star rating on Capterra. The e-learning page says 97% of customers recommend LENA and that more than 100 companies trust it, and the home page claims LENA customers are around 76% faster at managing and delivering instruction.
The customer list leans toward industry, construction, waste management and care. PORR Bau uses LENA for safety instruction on the PSW Ebensee power plant construction site. The Austrian Football Bundesliga runs web-based training that several thousand people take each year to work as stewards in football stadiums. A trade association, the Fachverband der persönlichen Dienstleister, says more than 1,500 users rated its training highly in the first weeks. Care homes, rail services, chemical companies, recyclers and municipal utilities appear too. Optigrün International AG says it embeds training videos, its own company videos, images and documents in its courses, and sums up: "Wir, die Optigrün-Familie, sind rundum zufrieden mit dem LMS-System LENA Training" (we, the Optigrün family, are completely satisfied with the LMS LENA Training).
Setup, support and buying
Customers describe quick rollouts. Wiener Neustädter Stadtwerke says it rolled LENA out across its waste management operation within three weeks of a successful pilot, including some adjustments. REMONDIS Austria says its tailored package was implemented in one working day. InSphero AG, writing in English, says: "The helpful support in German and English made it possible to implement the software quickly and is always available very competently."
Buyers can test LENA themselves through the "Jetzt testen" option or book a personal demo, in which the managing director walks a team through the software. The site has a plans page and a savings calculator, and notes that further savings may be possible through public funding.
Who it suits
LENA suits companies in Austria, Germany and Switzerland that must deliver and prove recurring safety and compliance instruction: construction firms, waste management and recycling companies, manufacturers, logistics operators, hotels and restaurants, care homes and event organizers. Its strengths are the template shop, AI-generated tests and translations for multilingual staff, recurring dates and a certificate archive that stands up to audits. Organizations with strict data requirements can keep data on Austrian servers or host it on premise, and those with blue-collar teams get a platform that customers repeatedly describe as easy for workers to pick up.
