AppLI LMS is the learning management system of Legal Island, an Irish workplace compliance and HR training company founded in 1998. It combines a hosted training platform with Legal Island's own library of compliance courses, so an employer gets the system and the content together. The product page describes it as "a convenient and easy-to-use e-learning platform that offers a diverse array of training content for employees and businesses in Ireland", covering well-being, compliance and managerial skills. It is aimed at HR managers who need every employee trained on legal duties and need proof that the training happened. Legal Island runs separate sites for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with contact addresses in Dublin and in Antrim.
The platform
AppLI LMS gives staff 24/7 access to a central online training platform, which the page says is tailored to the organization's brand and its staff training needs. Courses can be completed at any time, from any place and on any device: the FAQ lists mobile phones, laptops, tablets and desktops, so staff can fit training around their work.
On the admin side, HR managers control user access and can upload, change and remove users. Learners can enroll themselves on courses, which the page presents as a way of taking onboarding work off the HR department. The key features list covers fully customizable course creation and management, self-enrollment, user management, user activity tracking, and assessment through quizzes and certifications. After a course, the FAQ says, employees receive tailored recommendations for further training content as well as final quizzes.
Organizations are not limited to Legal Island's content. The page says you can integrate your existing training materials, policies and procedures into AppLI LMS so that all training sits in one place and stays consistent.
Compliance tracking and the audit trail
The platform is built around compliance record-keeping. The page says HR can keep track of and download staff progress, which saves time on compliance measures and record-keeping. The reporting and tracking software provides an audit trail, and Legal Island makes a specific claim for it: the audit trail, it says, will strengthen an employer's defense in any employment tribunal complaint and so protect the company's reputation. On data protection, the page describes the platform as "fully compliant with ISO27001 standards."
For an Irish employer that has to show it trained staff on bullying, harassment or data protection, that combination of downloadable progress records and an audit trail is the core of what the product offers.
The course library
AppLI LMS includes "an extensive portfolio of over 25 jurisdiction-specific courses for an annual fixed fee." The page says the courses are jurisdiction-specific "to ensure your staff are trained in accordance with local law", and span compliance, well-being and management needs. Organizations that do not need the whole library can choose smaller packages instead.
The featured courses show the focus on Irish law. GDPR Training is described as helping all staff understand their legal responsibilities and protect personal data, "tailored for Irish businesses." Workplace Bullying is a dignity and respect course designed for Irish organizations. Workplace Harassment and Sexual Harassment is "tailored specifically to Irish law." Whistleblowing Awareness covers recognizing, raising and responding to protected disclosures and the protections available under Irish law. AI Literacy Skills at Work covers the safe, ethical and effective use of AI and generative AI tools by all staff.
The wider eLearning catalog on the home page, each course marked for all staff, includes Being an Active Bystander at Work, Disability Awareness at Work, Safeguarding Awareness for Venue Staff in Ireland, Child Protection in Primary Schools and in Secondary Schools, Fire Safety Awareness at Work, Phishing Awareness at Work, Fraud Awareness at Work, Conflict of Interest at Work, Right to Disconnect, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption at Work. The categories shown run across diversity and inclusion, health and safety, data protection and GDPR, and artificial intelligence. Beyond the off-the-shelf library, Legal Island also offers bespoke eLearning.
Pricing and buying
AppLI LMS is sold for an annual fixed fee with what the page calls "unlimited user integrations." The page lists "No setup, admin fees, or hidden costs" as a feature and names on-hand support. It does not print the fee itself. Buyers register interest through a form on the page and schedule a tour of the platform, and a brochure is available to download.
What customers say
The AppLI LMS page quotes four organizations, all from Northern Ireland. Jill O'Halloran of Choice Housing says the eLearning "offered easily accessible training for all employees, without having to commute" and that "the reporting features enable us to obtain measurable results with ease." Olga Pollock, HR Manager at Firmus Energy, says the Diversity and Inclusion course "is excellent and interactive." Sandra Bailie of NICVA calls it "an affordable, accessible method of ensuring all staff were informed of data protection regulations." Lisa O'Neill of Armagh Observatory and Planetarium says staff working from home got access to a course very quickly and found it "informative, quick to complete."
The company behind it
Legal Island describes itself in three words: "We're specialist, we're local and we're independent." Since 1998 it has worked with HR professionals through expert-led conferences and workshops, its Employment Law Hub and eLearning compliance training. The home page gives the scale: more than 50 expert-led events a year across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, more than 3,500 subscribers to the Employment Law Hub, and more than 3,300 organizations in Ireland that have used Legal Island for employment law and compliance training. The Hub itself holds more than 700 articles and more than 1,000 case law reviews, with monthly webinars and podcasts, and offers a 14-day free trial. Events run from a mock Workplace Relations Commission hearing to an annual employment law review, and the company also runs a four-week, CPD-certified online course in AI for HR.
That background matters for the LMS. The courses come from a company whose main business is tracking Irish employment law, so the content is written with that law in mind rather than adapted from a generic library.
Who it suits
AppLI LMS suits Irish employers, from housing associations and charities to energy companies and public bodies, that want compliance training for all staff without building courses themselves. The fixed annual fee with unlimited user integrations makes costs predictable for an organization training a large or changing workforce, and the smaller packages give a lighter option for employers who need only a few topics. HR teams already using Legal Island's Hub or events get the same employment law focus in staff training. The content is written for Irish law, so it fits organizations operating in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the option to add your own policies and materials covers training that is specific to the business.
