What Karas is

Karas is a learning management system (LMS) and training management system (TMS) developed by KanHan Technologies Limited for businesses in Hong Kong. The homepage calls it "a Hong Kong-made Training and Learning Management System for enterprise HR teams, training teams, management, and employees", and the about page says it connects course delivery, training administration, approvals, employee records and reporting. It is built from "five connected modules": Internal Training, External Training, Online Learning, Micro Learning and an Exam Module. The FAQ confirms the system is modular, so a company can start with one module and add others as its needs grow.

KanHan Technologies says it has more than 26 years of experience designing, implementing and supporting digital platforms for organizations. An example timeline on the online learning page lists the company's milestones: KanHan founded in 1999, a Google Partner in 2016, and Karas launched in 2025. The homepage says Karas has 2,000+ current users across Hong Kong organizations. It has won the HKMA Award for Excellence in Training and Development and the Elite Technology Application Award in the Organisational Category.

Internal training

The Internal Training module runs company-organized classes from setup to reporting. HR sets course categories, class schedules, venues, trainers, seat capacity and target audiences, then opens enrollment to selected employees or departments. The module handles registrations, seat availability, waitlists, reminders and participant status, and tracks attended, absent, pending and completed status during the course.

Attendance can be taken four ways: a session QR code that employees scan, a staff card checked at reception or the training venue, the staff app where the organization enables it, or directly in the web portal by an administrator. After the course, attendance and completion stay with each employee's learning record, and HR can review participation by course or department without consolidating spreadsheets by hand.

External training and approvals

External Training handles courses employees want to take outside the company. Applications, approval routing, fee information, sponsorship, claims, certificates and supporting documents all live in one workflow, so the employee, the manager and HR work from the same training request. Approval chains are configurable by department, employee role, course type, request amount and number of review stages, and reimbursement claims can carry eligibility rules, reimbursement limits, required documents and an approval history. Role-based access limits what each person can see, and the system keeps approval decisions, timestamps and comments for later review. Employees get their own view, where they can browse courses, submit applications, follow the progress of an approval and manage their personal learning records.

Online learning and assessments

The Online Learning module lets training teams build courses from videos, documents, activities and assessments, organized into sections with focused modules inside each one. The interactive content types named on the page are interactive video, multiple choice, timeline, drag the words, image juxtaposition and fill in the blanks. Interactive video can pause at set points and only continue once the learner answers, with the response saved to the learner record. Quizzes support single-answer and multiple-answer questions, scoring and pass rules, immediate feedback, automatic grading, randomized answer order, and attempt and response analysis.

Courses can be assigned by employee, department, role, skill or target group, with due dates and completion rules. Learners see their assigned learning, status, deadlines, scores and history, and reports cover participation, completion, scores, attempts and overdue learning across teams. For outside content, Karas launches courses from LinkedIn Learning and OpenSesame and accepts uploaded SCORM packages, keeping assignments, completion and reporting in one place.

Micro learning

Micro Learning is for short content employees can return to during the workday: short videos (the example runs two minutes), quick articles (the example is a four-minute read), knowledge cards, updates and quizzes, targeted by role, department or topic. Employees can comment and discuss practical examples inside each item. Administrators see video views over time, when attention rises or drops, and engagement across teams, which the page suggests using to decide what to update, promote or create next.

Exam Module

The Exam Module is aimed at professional licensing and compliance examinations. It covers exam creation (question banks, exam papers, time limits and passing requirements), applications with eligibility checks and supporting documents, session and room booking, assigning each candidate a room, seat and computer, supervision of check-in, progress, submissions and incidents, and finally marking, result approval and release. Exam papers can be randomized from the question bank. A room view shows timetables, seating plans and workstation status together.

The module runs on-premises. Exam computers can connect over a private local network with no public internet during the session, and isolated workstations are supported, with controlled loading of exam materials and collection of results.

AI, insight and integrations

Karas is labeled "AI Ready". The homepage says that, using AI and training analytics, it identifies skill gaps across teams and maps learning demand against organizational targets, which management can turn into role-based learning paths and course assignments tracked by department or role. An AI course recommendation feature suggests learning based on skill gaps, course history, team targets and role needs. Management dashboards cover learning progress, skill demand, budget usage and department-level performance.

For integration, the FAQ says Karas supports planned HRIS data exchange, single sign-on and API integration, with the scope agreed during implementation. Karas can be deployed in the cloud or on-premise.

Pricing and implementation

Karas is priced by enterprise quote. The FAQ asks buyers to share the modules they need, the intended user groups, the deployment preference and any integration or workflow requirements. Before implementation, the team asks for examples of the training process, employee groups, approval policies, existing systems and required reports, plus any historical records to carry over and a target rollout date. Demos are booked through the site.

Who it suits

Karas suits a Hong Kong organization whose HR or training team runs a mix of classroom courses, sponsored external training with reimbursement, online courses and short refresher content, and wants all of it in one employee record. It is a strong fit where external training goes through multi-step approvals and claims, where attendance has to be captured at a venue, or where the company runs professional or licensing exams that must stay on its own infrastructure. The modular design lets a team start with the one process that hurts most and add the rest later.
