What Coursy is

Coursy is a cloud learning management system for compliance and required training, sold to organizations in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Its homepage title reads "Learning Management System (LMS) for Baltic businesses," and the opening line sets out the job: Coursy "helps L&D professionals in regulated organisations get required training assigned, completed, and documented, so they can stay compliant without manual work." The company says its platform has "55,000+ active learners" who complete training on it every month across regulated industries.

The buyer is the person who owns training on top of other duties. Coursy says plainly that it is built "for the person who has to get training assigned, completed, and proved" rather than for a team that wants to build a course platform from scratch, and its FAQ adds that "Most of our customers manage Coursy as a part-time responsibility alongside their other HR work." No instructional design background or dedicated L&D department is expected.

Turning existing files into courses

Course creation starts from material a company already has. The homepage says to upload the PDFs, slides and videos sitting in a shared drive (onboarding documents, safety guides, policy presentations), and Coursy turns them into structured courses employees can complete on any device. The FAQ explains the mechanics: admins upload PowerPoint files, PDFs and videos and then build the course structure, grouping materials into lessons and modules in the platform's content editor. There is no separate authoring tool to learn, and the account manager helps organize everything during onboarding. If a team is unsure where to start, the customer success team helps set up the first course library.

For topics a company does not want to write itself, the Ready-Made Content store offers off-the-shelf courses on compliance, safety and soft skills that can be mixed with a company's own materials.

Assigning training automatically

Assignment is rule-based. Admins define training requirements once by job role, department or hire date, and Coursy schedules the right courses, sends reminders when something is due and records who has completed what. The FAQ gives an example rule: "everyone in the Warehouse department gets Fire Safety training within 30 days of joining." When a new employee is added with that department tag, the course is assigned automatically, reminders go out on schedule, and completion is tracked. Rules can combine job role, department, location and seniority, and a person's training plan updates the moment they join or move to a new role. Admins can also bulk-assign courses to departments, roles or hire cohorts.

Certificates and compliance tracking

Certificate tracking is the center of the product. When an employee completes a course, Coursy generates a dated certificate automatically, which the learner can download straight away. Admins set a validity period per course (the FAQ's example is one year for fire safety and three years for something else), and the system tracks expiry dates for every person across every course. Before a certificate lapses, Coursy sends automated reminders to the employee and can trigger a refresher course assignment, and a live dashboard shows the status of every certificate in the organization.

Reporting follows the same logic. The dashboard shows completion across every team in real time, filtered by department, role or training topic, flags what is overdue or about to expire, and exports "One-click reports ready for audits and management" for any topic, date range or team. The homepage says an audit report can be generated in one click.

Managers and learners

Managers get their own view without admin rights. The FAQ says they can see their team's completion status, check who is overdue, assign courses directly to their reports and approve external training requests, "without extra licences or permissions," while HR stays in control of the platform. Data access follows roles: "Managers see their site. Admins see everything."

For employees, the experience is meant to be plain and quick. Training runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or desktop, "with no app to install and no IT ticket to file," and progress saves automatically, so a course started on a laptop can be finished on a phone. Learners see only the training relevant to their role.

Languages, login and hosting

Coursy is built for multilingual Baltic workforces. The learner interface is available in Estonian, Russian, Latvian, Lithuanian, English, Finnish and Swedish, and both the admin dashboard and the employee portal switch language automatically for each user. For sign-in, the FAQ lists Estonian ID-card, Mobile-ID and Smart-ID out of the box, SSO through SAML and Azure Active Directory, and standard username and password login. The homepage says the platform is "EU hosted and GDPR ready" and that all data stays in Europe. Each customer gets a branded learning hub with its own name, logo and colors on its own URL rather than a generic subdomain.

External audiences and course sales

Coursy is not limited to staff. Its FAQ says one platform covers employee training, customer onboarding, partner enablement and external e-commerce course sales, with separate portals that each carry their own branding, user groups and content, all run from one admin. The e-commerce module sells courses externally with Stripe-powered checkout. The company's glossary page on extended enterprise training lists partner certification, customer onboarding, dealer and service training and contractor safety induction as typical uses of that kind of setup.

Support and pricing

Support is personal. Each customer has a named account manager who, according to the FAQ, handles the initial setup, helps structure the course library, answers questions, reviews the account periodically to suggest improvements and joins a call when something is not working. There is a knowledge base as well, and Coursy runs quarterly community events where L&D practitioners from the region share practice.

The site publishes no prices on these pages; the route in is a 30-minute live demo configured around the buyer's own job roles, content and compliance requirements.

Who it suits

Coursy suits a regulated organization in the Baltics with a mixed-language workforce, recurring certificates to keep current and one HR person or a small team running training alongside other work. A logistics firm, a factory or a service company with safety inductions and annual refreshers can load its existing slides and PDFs, set assignment rules once and stop tracking expiry dates in a spreadsheet. National ID login and EU hosting matter for exactly those buyers.

It is narrower by design than a full talent or learning experience platform. The pages focus on getting required training assigned, completed and documented, not on authoring rich interactive content, so a team that wants elaborate course design will be adding its own tools. For the job it describes, that focus is the selling point.
