What Connecteam is
Connecteam is an employee management app for frontline and deskless teams, and training is one of its built-in tools rather than a separate product. The homepage says it "brings scheduling, time tracking, communication, and HR into one simple app," and describes the whole offer as one app for every part of workforce management, replacing scattered tools and manual processes. Its pitch to a business running shifts across several sites is that hiring, onboarding, training, daily tasks, hours and team messages all live in the same place, on the same phone.
For an L&D or operations lead, that makes Connecteam a different kind of entry in this category. It is not a course platform with HR bolted on; it is a workforce app in which a manager can build a short course, send it to new hires, check who finished it and remind those who did not, without leaving the tool used to run the rota. The homepage says Connecteam is "Trusted by 80,000+ businesses worldwide," from small teams to global enterprises, and says it is where "1.8M+ managers and employees get work done, every day." The industries it names are construction, cleaning, healthcare, food and beverage, retail, field services and security.
Training and onboarding
The training side centers on the AI Course Creator. Connecteam's own guide to training tracking software explains it like this: "Describe your topic, and the platform automatically generates a complete course with modules." Managers can then add documents, images and self-made videos directly in the app. The guide suggests filming an experienced worker demonstrating a process, or the CEO explaining company culture, on a smartphone and uploading it within seconds as training content. Courses are stored in order in one central place, and employees work through them at their own pace wherever they are.
Courses can include customizable surveys and quizzes throughout, which the guide presents both as a check that employees understood the material and as a way to spot weak spots in the content itself: if many people miss the same question, that section probably needs rewriting. Because training documents sit in the cloud, an update reaches every employee straight away.
Tracking is handled from the admin dashboard. The guide says it shows each employee's training status, course completion and knowledge level through progress data, with filters for finding detail, report export for record keeping, and automatic reminders to anyone who has not finished. The key features it lists are activity and progress monitoring, a training completion overview, push notifications and direct messaging, quiz performance tracking, and unlimited secured storage of training activity. For compliance, Connecteam offers unlimited cloud storage and archives all training activity, so a business can pull up proof that specific training was completed.
Feedback runs through the forms feature, where managers build questionnaires with multiple-choice or open-ended questions about the training itself. The in-app chat lets a manager message a new hire mid-course, follow up on problems, or post training updates to a whole group. Onboarding sits next to this: the homepage says new hires can have all their documents collected before day one, then receive training that gets them job-ready.
The rest of the app
Training sits inside a broader set of tools. The product menu lists an operations hub (time clock, scheduling, forms and checklists, task management), a communications hub (chat, updates, directory, knowledge base, help desk, events) and an HR hub (hiring and onboarding, training, documents and e-sign, time off, recognition and rewards, org chart), plus surveys, earned wage access and NFC time tracking.
Scheduling uses AI: "Tell AI what you need and get a ready-to-use schedule in minutes," the homepage says, with jobs, tasks and last-minute changes handled in the same view. Employees complete tasks and digital forms from their phones, backed by photos and signatures, while managers follow progress across every site in real time. The time clock offers one-tap clock-ins, location verification and automatic clock-outs, and sends timesheets on to payroll. Updates and chat show who has read each message, and the app keeps work communication apart from personal texts and calls.
Integrations, platforms and support
The training guide lists integrations with Gusto, Paychex, RUN Powered by ADP, QuickBooks, Xero and Zapier, which points to payroll and accounting rather than other learning systems. Connecteam runs on the web, iOS and Android. Its own guide names one drawback plainly: the app needs internet or Wi-Fi access to work.
Setup is meant to be quick. The homepage promises teams can "Get fully set up in a day. No IT, consultants, or long onboarding," and offers 24/7 live support from real people. The footer links to a Trust Center, a GDPR Ready page, an accessibility statement and a data processing agreement.
Pricing
Connecteam is free for small teams. The homepage says, "Under 10 employees? Enjoy full access 100% free!", and the comparison table in its training guide lists a free plan for up to 10 users and a 14-day free trial. Paid plans, according to the same guide, start "at just $29/month for the first 30 users," so the entry price covers a block of users rather than a single seat. No credit card is required to start. A demo can be requested from the homepage, and there is a separate contact route for sales.
Customer quotes on the homepage come from small owners and larger operators alike. Jason Behn, President at NAE Cleaning Solutions, says: "We replaced multiple systems with Connecteam, saving us around $30,000 a year in payroll-related costs alone." Robert Haynes, HR Manager at Saint Gobain, says: "Sharing a town hall update used to take days. With Connecteam, it's done in 15 minutes."
Who it suits
Connecteam suits small and mid-sized businesses with hourly, shift-based or field staff that want training to live in the same app as schedules, clock-ins and team messages. A cleaning company, a restaurant group, a security firm or a construction contractor can film a process on a phone, turn it into a short course with a quiz, and see who finished it before the next shift. Teams under 10 employees can run all of it for free, which makes it an easy starting point for a business with no training system at all.
It is a lighter fit for an L&D team that needs a dedicated learning platform with deep course authoring, formal learning paths or external certificates. Connecteam's own pages describe training as one hub among several, and the material they show is built for practical onboarding and compliance records rather than large course catalogs. For a business whose training problem is mostly about reaching deskless staff and proving they completed the essentials, that focus is the point.
