What Claned Is
Claned is an online learning platform from Learning Intelligence Group LIG Oy, a company whose address is in Helsinki. It describes itself as "The learning platform that connects social learning, skills and outcomes," and its home page sums up the approach as "Claned combines learning science, social learning and AI-assisted design." It is built for organizations that train employees, customers or partners, and for training companies that want to take their courses online.
The starting idea is that "Putting content online does not automatically create learning." Claned asks course creators to design around a purpose, keep learners active with questions, reflection and discussion, and then use the data from that activity to improve the course. The company says its team has "over 100 years of cumulative experience in EdTech" and knows "how to combine high-quality Finnish pedagogy with a digital platform." The site is published in English and Finnish.
Building Courses
Course creation is meant to be quick. The home page says "Creating your own courses in Claned is effortless," that you can use "any type of digital learning materials you want: webinars, videos, PDFs, VR games, anything," and that existing materials drop into ready-made course templates. Teachers can use content they already have or create new interactive pieces.
The learning design pages give the method behind it. Good design "begins with a clear answer to a simple question: what should the learner be able to understand or do after this learning experience?" Clear goals then guide choices about content, activities and assessment. The pages recommend combining content with questions, reflection and discussion, and balancing challenge with the learner's skills while giving clear goals and feedback, which the site calls central conditions for engagement and flow in the learning research behind Claned. Design is the first step in a sequence the site lists as learning, skills, evidence and capability, with Claned making the resulting skills and progress visible.
The feature list adds a learner feed, a competence passport, skills and frameworks, AI for learners and course creators, outcome analytics, mobile-ready documents, and comments and chat.
Social Learning and Contextual Commenting
Social learning is the feature Claned leads with. In a way the home page compares to social media, participants post comments, discuss issues and share notes, and the site cites studies showing that "learning together increases motivation and promotes better results." Instructors can join the conversation and support learners as they go.
The distinctive part is contextual commenting. Every material becomes interactive once added: a learner reading a PDF can highlight any passage and post a public comment on it, and the same works for videos. In the social learning page's words, "A question about a document can stay with the relevant part of the document. A discussion about a video can remain connected to the point that triggered it." Discussions stay with the material rather than getting lost on a separate message board.
Tracking and Learning Analytics
A track view lets teachers follow progress with one click: which materials each learner has completed, how much time they have spent on the course and which materials they may be struggling with. The stated purpose is to help learners who need it and prevent dropouts.
Beyond that, Claned "automatically collects data from every interaction" on the platform. The home page says the data can identify learners at risk of dropping out, point to parts of a course that need work, and show whether the teaching is effective and how it affects the organization's KPIs. The analytics page argues that completion alone "tells only part of the story" and that completion rates, activity and time mean more when read in the context of the learning experience. Its summary: "Learning data is not the goal. Better learning is." Learners also see their own progress, which the site says supports reflection.
Integrations and Standards
The API page, headed "Claned fits your stack," covers what an IT or HR team needs to know. Through the REST API, an organization can create, update and deactivate users from its HRIS or identity provider, send invitations and "enroll people into the right boards and groups automatically as roles change." It can also "Read completions, assessment results, study time, ESCO skills and issued certificates back into your data warehouse, HR system or BI dashboards."
Standard integrations sit alongside the API: courses can be launched from an LMS over LTI, people can sign in with single sign-on via SAML or OpenID Connect, including Microsoft Entra ID, and SCORM packages run inside a board. Combined with white-labeling, the API lets an organization make Claned "feel like a native part of your own product or academy." The home page adds that the team can set Claned up "today, with or without a white label," with no system development needed.
Use Cases and Customers
Claned names several uses: product training for customers, HR and organizational development training, safety and mandatory training, and training companies and course creators taking existing programs online. For product training, the page talks about an interactive product experience measured with learning analytics; for safety training, about how well knowledge sticks across the organization.
Two customer quotes appear on the home page. Tuomas Alivuotila, Customer Success Manager at Solita, says: "One thing that has surprised me is that when we have courses, everyone really participates. I wasn't a fan of online training before Claned." Tiina Parkkonen, Online Studies Coordinator at South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, says: "The interaction between learners is important to us." A 2024 news item on the home page is headed "Claned has been chosen one of the top edtech companies in the world." The company also runs Claned Academy, the Learning Clan podcast and a Lessons on Learning newsletter.
Pricing and Demo
No prices appear alongside the product descriptions; every page leads to a demo. The API page offers "a 30-minute demo" showing "the learner feed, the competence passport and the analytics on a course like yours."
Who It Suits
Claned suits training teams that care about how well people learn and not only whether they finished: L&D departments running onboarding, leadership or safety programs, companies training customers on a product, and training businesses moving classroom courses online. Its contextual commenting and learner feed fit programs where discussion is part of the learning, and the API, SSO, LTI and SCORM support fit organizations that need the platform to sit inside an existing HR and reporting setup.
Teams that mainly want a large library of ready-made courses should note that Claned is built around the organization's own content. Its emphasis on learning design also asks something of course creators: the platform rewards time spent defining goals and activities, which a team simply uploading slide decks may not use to the full.
