What it is

The SBIZ Knowledge Platform is the training site of SEMAS (소상공인시장진흥공단), South Korea's public agency for small business owners and markets, whose address in Daejeon appears in the site footer. In Korean the site is called 소상공인 지식배움터, roughly the small business knowledge learning center. It is a learner product built for one audience: people who run, or are about to open, a small shop, restaurant, workshop or online store. Online lectures, package courses, in-person workshops, legally required training and an e-library all sit under one login.

That makes it a government course portal in the plainest sense, an open catalog of free online lectures in the manner of a MOOC site, and above all a school of practical business skills: marketing, sales channels, labor and tax rules, and now a large block of AI training.

The online catalog

The online side is split into several formats. The menu lists online lectures (온라인강의), package courses (패키지강의), microlearning (마이크로러닝), external courses, legally mandated training (법정의무교육), partner lectures (제휴강의), a room where owners share their own experience (소상공인 경험공유방) and knowledge-sharing lectures.

Most single lectures are short. Each card on the home page shows the total running time, the number of lessons, the star rating, view count and review count, and tags for business stage and sector. The tags cover startup (창업), growth (성장), closure and restart (폐업, 재기), and sectors from manufacturing, retail and restaurants to services and accommodation, plus topics such as business operations, marketing and labor, tax and law.

The beginner shelf, "초보 사장님을 위한 기초 강의" (basic lectures for new owners), shows the range. It includes a franchise success checklist, a lecture on the labor management every small business owner should know, a course on closing a business and preparing for re-employment, delivery and packaging know-how for cafés and dessert shops, a first lesson in online marketing (온라인마케팅을 잘 시작하는 방법) and an introduction to writing a business plan. The re-employment course carries the largest numbers on the page, 12729 views and 8307 reviews.

Package courses bundle lectures by business type (restaurants, manufacturing, retail and wholesale, services, lodging) and by stage (startup, growth, closure and restart). The two most popular packages of the month are an early startup package for online sellers, with 20 courses and 35 video lectures, and an essentials package for cooperatives. Both are offered on an ongoing basis.

A large block of AI training

AI is the loudest theme on the home page. A section titled "AI 비즈니스 실전" (AI business in practice) and a run of new lectures cover AI trends in management support, AI ethics and risk management, AI in tax and accounting, AI trends in HR and talent development, understanding data and AI, and using public and open data. Shorter practical lessons teach owners to make marketing videos with AI, keep AI-generated product images consistent, test a startup idea with AI and build their own team of agents with Claude Code (클로드 코드로 나만의 에이전트 팀 만들기). A ChatGPT lesson for small business owners appears among the related courses.

The home page also opens with "AI 추천! 사장님 맞춤형 강의" (AI-recommended lectures tailored to each owner), which a signed-in owner can adjust through a customization setting.

What a lecture page looks like

A sample lecture page, "왜 다들 라이브로 팔까?" (why is everyone selling live?), shows the format in detail. It is the first of a 4-part live commerce school run with the live shopping platform Grip (그립), and it explains why live commerce has grown, how the platforms are structured and how to choose a channel. The page lists a learning objective, a timestamped chapter list, a summary that the page labels as generated by AI, hashtags and a profile of the instructor, the head of a live commerce training and speaking business.

The terms are clear. The lecture is open year-round, counts for 0.5 hours of recognized training, targets small business owners, is assessed on online attendance alone ("온라인 수강 100%") and requires "80% 이상" (80 percent or more) to complete. Learners leave short reviews under each lecture. A site notice from February 2026 concerns the standard for the training hours shown on completion certificates (수료증), which tells owners that finished courses produce a certificate recording those hours.

The signed-in area, "나의강의실" (my classroom), keeps online, package, partner and on-site courses in one place, tracks education points and has a button to ask the instructor a question.

In-person workshops

The second half of the platform is on-site training (현장교육), listed with dates, places and prices. Many current sessions are one-day AI workshops run with partner companies: setting up an AI assistant that works from a business's own data with 캐시노트, promoting and managing a shop with AI alongside 뤼튼, automating office work by writing government support applications with AI, and making promotional videos for a store. The listings show the cohort and level in the title, such as "[161기/서울/보통(업종무관)]" (161st cohort, Seoul, intermediate, any industry), and most mark the fee as "무료(국비 100%)", free and fully paid by the state.

Other on-site courses include management improvement classes such as a smart hair salon course in Cheongju, a local startup insight series in Daegu and an AI startup camp for early founders run by another institution. Sessions are listed across Seoul, Daegu, Daejeon and Gwangju, and the agency rents out dedicated training rooms in several cities.

Legally required training and partners

Owners in regulated trades can complete mandatory courses here. The list includes hygiene training for public hygiene businesses and for hygiene products, hazardous materials safety, industrial safety for 3D printing, training for waste handling staff, livestock product hygiene and prevention of sexual harassment at work. Two further safety courses list their responsible ministries: health functional food hygiene under the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (식품의약품안전처) and safety training for amusement facility operators under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (문화체육관광부).

Partner lectures come from other public bodies, among them commercial area analysis and site selection from the Chungbuk credit guarantee foundation, a trademark guide for small business intellectual property from the Korea Invention Promotion Association (한국발명진흥회) and technology protection training for smaller firms.

Support programs and help

The course pages also list support programs open for applications, which is useful context for an owner choosing training. Current notices include the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' combined small business support announcement, the Hope Return Package (희망리턴패키지) for owners closing a business and moving into new work, recruitment for specialized support centers for small manufacturers in sectors such as clothing, jewelry, printing and metalworking, a management stabilization voucher program, a digital specialization college for small business owners and visiting one-to-one digital training.

For help, the site lists two call centers, 1533-0100 for small business owners and 1357 for small and medium enterprises, open weekdays from 09:00 to 18:00 and closed on weekends and holidays. There is also a FAQ, a Q&A board, remote support, a video channel and a request form, "희망교육 개설해드림", where owners can ask for a course they want.

Who it suits

The platform suits a Korean small business owner or would-be founder who wants short, practical, free training: a 20-minute AI lesson between customers, a one-day workshop in a nearby city, or a mandatory hygiene course done online. Owners closing a business get their own track, and the support program notices put training next to the programs an owner can apply for.

It suits less well a learner outside Korea, since lectures, workshops and support programs are in Korean and built around Korean rules. Someone wanting deep, long-form study will find most single lectures under an hour, though package courses group them into longer sequences.
