What Aula Mentor is

Aula Mentor is the open online training program of Spain's Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes), and its site carries the ministry's name and the Government of Spain in its footer. The home page says all courses of the "Programa de Formación Abierta Aula Mentor" (Aula Mentor Open Training Program) are "diseñados para mejorar las competencias básicas y profesionales de la población adulta", designed to improve the basic and professional skills of the adult population. It is a learner product: adults enroll in online courses, study at their own pace with a tutor, and sit an in-person exam for a ministry certificate. The site's pitch is a flexible system "pensado para personas mayores de 18 años" (designed for people over 18), on an online platform with a learning experience "adaptada a tu ritmo y disponibilidad" (adapted to your pace and availability).

There is a physical side as well. The site says it has "una extensa red de Aulas Mentor", an extensive network of Aula Mentor classrooms where learners can take the courses, and it points visitors to their nearest one. The program funds these classrooms through annual maintenance grants; the final resolution of the 2026 round is on the home page.

The catalog

The home page says the catalog "consta de más de 240 cursos con 38 itinerarios formativos y 17 áreas profesionales": more than 240 courses with 38 training pathways in 17 professional areas, expanded and updated constantly to meet the professional and qualification needs of adults. The offer is split into two blocks, individual courses and training pathways, which the site calls "nuestra formación acreditable" (our accreditable training). The pathways, listed as Itinerarios Acreditables, group courses linked to the Catálogo Nacional de Cualificaciones Profesionales, Spain's National Catalog of Professional Qualifications.

The featured courses show the vocational side. Four are shown at 60 hours each: warehouse control and order management for pharmaceutical products, administration and processing of pharmaceutical documentation, foreseeable risk arrangements in emergency organization, and emergency plans, planning and activation. Each lists its units; the pharmaceutical documentation course, for example, opens with the Spanish health system, the pharmaceutical sector and its legislation, and the pharmaceutical product's management, safety and organization.

Three more strands sit beside the general Cursos Mentor:

  • Cursos Gratuitos, free courses whose places "son limitadas y se asignan por riguroso orden de inscripción" (are limited and assigned in strict order of registration).
  • INTEF courses, described as digital and pedagogical training for teachers.
  • CISCO courses, "formación oficial en redes y tecnologías digitales" (official training in networks and digital technologies).

Networking, cybersecurity and English for IT

The Cisco strand is what puts Aula Mentor in the tech and coding category. The site lists the CCNA 7 pathway of Cisco Networking Academy as online modules of 70 hours each: Module 1, Introduction to Networks; Module 2, switching, routing and wireless communication fundamentals, for those who completed Module 1; and Module 3, enterprise networks, security and automation, for those who passed Module 1 and/or Module 2. Module 2 sits in the Informática y Comunicaciones (computing and communications) professional family. A separate Cisco CiberOps Associate course of 80 hours prepares people for digital security, threat detection and incident response, and asks for basic knowledge of Linux operating systems.

A pair of English courses belongs to the same pathway. English for IT 1 is a 50-hour intermediate program for non-native speakers who need to work or communicate with technology professionals: secondary and higher education students, early-career IT staff, developers, engineers, support staff, product managers, network and security specialists, and employees in other fields who work with technical teams. It runs over 12 chapters, from Identify Problems and Interpret and Implement Instructions to Defend a Point of View and Update Colleagues, and covers grammar such as the passive voice, relative pronouns and "as if" and "as though". English for IT 2, also 50 hours, is organized in six thematic blocks and adds the subjunctive, transitive phrasal verbs, cleft sentences, conjunctions such as since, yet, while and whereas, and modal verbs for deduction and suggestion, with vocabulary from networking, software engineering, cloud computing, operating systems and digital products and services. Both are part of the "itinerario formativo CISCO" and prepare learners for the Cisco Cybersecurity Operations certification. An intermediate level of English is recommended for both.

How a course runs

The English for IT pages spell out the format, and it is more structured than a self-study video library. Each course has an estimated duration of four months and includes access to the training platform, classroom resources and "apoyo tutorial personalizado" (personalized tutorial support). In English for IT 1 the tutor asks for mandatory activities every 2 or 3 chapters, each chapter has an exam, and a final test covers the whole course. Learners then sit an in-person exam session, with a resit option, to obtain the certificado de aprovechamiento (certificate of achievement) of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports. For English for IT 2 the certificate is issued by the ministry "y de CISCO ACADEMY" (and by Cisco Academy). The only equipment listed is a personal computer with an internet connection.

Courses run on calendars rather than rolling enrollment. The October 2026 sitting of both English for IT courses starts in October, with module exams and a final test in February 2027. Enrollment for CCNA 7 Module 1 was extended to September 28, 2026, and for Module 2 it ran until September 21, 2026. The site also offers Mentor Orienta, a personalized orientation process with advice from experts, for learners deciding what to study next.

Cost

The home page has a section of free courses, with limited places assigned in registration order. It gives no enrollment fee for the rest of the catalog.

Who it suits

Aula Mentor suits adults in Spain who want a tutored course with an exam and a ministry certificate at the end, rather than an open-ended video subscription. The Cisco pathway is the clearest route for someone moving into networking or cybersecurity: CCNA 7 modules that build on each other, a CiberOps course, and two English for IT courses for the technical English the work needs. Vocational learners in fields such as pharmacy support and emergency planning will find 60-hour courses tied to the National Catalog of Professional Qualifications, and teachers have their own INTEF strand.

The caveats come from the format. Courses follow fixed calendars with enrollment windows, the final exam is taken in person, and free courses fill in registration order. The site and course pages are in Spanish, apart from the English for IT course content, so the program is a fit for Spanish speakers who can reach an exam session.
