Tevello

Tap a star to rate

Tevello is a courses and communities app for Shopify. It lets a store owner sell online courses, digital products and community memberships inside their own Shopify store, next to the physical products they already sell, instead of sending customers to a separate course site. The homepage describes it as "a course and community-building platform to combine LMS with physical products to drive sales for your Shopify store", and its FAQ is direct about scope: "Shopify only. The app is not available independently of the Shopify ecommerce platform."

That makes it a course platform for a particular kind of creator: someone whose business already runs on Shopify. The stores quoted on its homepage show the range: a crochet brand, an embroidery business and a school of beauty all sell courses through it. The FAQ also makes clear that physical products are optional: "Tevello is a powerful digital products solution for selling courses and digital products. No physical products are necessary to use it."

What you can build

The homepage lists what store owners create with the app: product-based courses, membership communities, subscription-based learning modules, certification programs, interactive workshops, drip content series, limited-time access courses, community-driven challenges, quizzes and assessments, and customized learning paths. Taken together, that covers the main formats a creator would want, from a single paid course to an ongoing subscription with a member community.

Courses are organized for the learner, and a post on the company blog describes the structure it recommends: clear modules and lessons with "a mix of videos, quizzes, and downloadable resources". The same post says the app "allows you to manage lessons, track student progress, and issue certificates", and that from one dashboard you can manage "your courses, certification workflows, community forums, and student messaging".

Video. Tevello offers "both video hosting directly on the platform and embeding from popular video hosting platforms like Vimeo, Wistia, and YouTube". A creator without a separate video account can upload directly, while one who already uses Vimeo or Wistia can keep those players.

Communities. The homepage says you can "build communities that are open, private, secret or hidden based on preferences with community engagement". Communities sit next to the courses, so a membership can combine lessons with a place for students to talk.

Customization. Courses and communities can be customized "to match your specific selling needs", and the app supports multiple languages "to sell and support courses in as many languages as possible", which matters for a store selling across borders.

How it works with Shopify

The case for Tevello rests on running inside Shopify. You install it from the Shopify App Store, and the homepage says courses and user management "are all happening in a single eCommerce platform that can automate tasks like user onboarding, course enrollments, and notifications using Shopify Flow". A store owner who already uses Shopify Flow can trigger enrollments and messages from the same automation tool that handles the rest of the store.

The members area is built for selling more. The homepage describes a "Members Area With Different Visibility Types" where additional courses can be locked or opened in the member's area to create upselling and cross-selling opportunities. A customer who bought one course sees what else is available, and a store can pair a course with the materials or tools it teaches, sold through the same checkout.

The blog post on selling courses on Shopify adds practical advice for using the app: set up secure payment gateways, keep the site mobile friendly, offer limited-time discounts, payment plans or bundled packages on the course page, and keep students engaged through forums, live Q&As or comment threads, all of which it says Tevello lets you "manage all these interactions in one place".

Customers and results

The homepage shows a rating of "5.0 (500+ reviews)" and names stores using the app, including Crochetmilie, fotopro, Klum House, Madeit, Launch Party, Charles Dowding and Matt McGurk.

Its headline case study is Crochetmilie, under the title "How Crochetmilie Sold Over 4,000 Digital Courses Using Tevello". The figures shown are 4K+ courses sold, $112K+ in digital products revenue, $116K+ in physical products revenue and 60%+ products upsold. These are one store's results as the company presents them, but they show the intended pattern: a crafts brand selling courses and physical goods side by side, with digital sales close to physical ones.

Customer reviews on the homepage come from stores in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. Wisdom of the Womb writes that it tried many course apps and found others expensive or hard to figure out. Smart D'sign Embroidery says it moved all its courses and customers from another stand-alone learning platform and was impressed with "how easy and quick the process was", and mentions helpful videos from the developer inside the app. Vanity Fair School Of Beauty writes that it had never built a Shopify account or online course before and received in-depth help.

Trial, pricing and support

The free trial runs for 14 days; the sign-up box says the app is "free for 14 days" and sends you to the Shopify App Store to install it. The site has a Pricing page in its menu, and a demo can be booked from the homepage.

Support is a selling point. The homepage promises "support directly with the developer, who will patiently help set up, manage, and grow your business with digital courses offering best practices and superior support". The footer lists a Help Center, live chat, a contact form and a demo request. For a store owner who has never built a course, that direct line to the developer is worth weighing, and the reviews on the page single it out.

Who it suits

Tevello suits a Shopify merchant who wants to add courses, a paid community or digital products without a second platform and a second login for customers to manage. It fits especially well when the course and the products support each other, as in crafts, beauty or hobby retail, where a lesson sells the materials and the materials lead to the next lesson. It also works for a digital-only seller who prefers Shopify's store and checkout to a dedicated course platform.

It is not an option for a creator who does not use Shopify, since the app cannot run outside it. A creator building a large standalone academy may also want to check how far the assessment and learning-path features go before committing. For a Shopify store adding education, the 14-day trial is an easy way to try it.
