What Teachlr is
Teachlr is an online course marketplace with two sides: learners who browse and buy courses, and teachers who build and publish them. The site calls its teachers "Teachlrs", and its home page sums the offer up as "Online courses for everyone", addressed to today's entrepreneurs, designers, managers, developers, students and speakers. On its About page the company describes itself as a group of entrepreneurs building a community where learning is interactive, accessible and effective, and states its mission as "to connect those who want to learn with the ones able to teach."
The site runs in Spanish and English, and so does the catalog: the same category page holds an English Excel course next to a PowerPoint course taught in Spanish, and the language filter offers exactly those two. The copyright line names Teachlr Corporation and runs from 2012 to 2026. Next to the open marketplace, the company sells a second product, Teachlr Organizations, which every page links to as "Teachlr for organizations". This entry is about the marketplace, where most readers will meet Teachlr.
Taking a course
The learner side rests on three promises the home page makes. Under "Learn at your own pace" it says "Our courses are 100% online. Take them anywhere, anytime." Under "Interact with the community" it says learners can "Participate in discussions and send direct messages to any user on Teachlr." Under "Get your certificate" it says learners "Receive a completion certificate from the teacher after finishing your course." That last point matters: the home page headline talks about "online certifications from world top experts", but what a learner actually receives is a completion certificate issued by the teacher of the course, not by a school or by Teachlr itself.
Signing up works with Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ or an email address. Search covers both courses and people, and user profiles show followers and following counts with a Follow button, so learners can keep track of teachers and other members as well as courses.
A course page shows what a buyer gets before paying. The Complete Forex Trading Course by King James, priced at USD 69 on the home page, is a good example. Its header lists the course language ("Course in English"), a "30 days Money Back Guarantee", a "Certificate of Completion", "More than 3 hours of content", "Additional Material" and "Lifetime access", along with the teacher's name, a field to apply a coupon and a "Take Course" button. Below that come a full description, a list of objectives, the instructional level (this one is "Multilevel"), the requirements, a section on who should take the course, and a chapter-by-chapter syllabus with the running time of every lesson. This course has 7 chapters, from Forex Basics through technical analysis to installing and navigating MetaTrader 4 and calculating risk, and lesson running times range from 00:34 min to 12:33 min. The page ends with the teacher's own profile under the heading "The Teachlr".
The money-back badge and the lifetime access line are shown on this course; the teacher's description repeats a "full 30 day money-back-in-full guarantee" in his own words. Whether every course on Teachlr carries the same guarantee is not stated on the site.
Teaching on Teachlr
For teachers, the home page's "Teach" tab describes the tools in two parts. "Create your online course" comes with the line "Upload videos, audios, presentations, readings and assessments." So a Teachlr course can mix recorded video with audio, slide decks, reading material and tests, rather than being video only. The second part is the profile: "Your online presence is the new business card. Use your profile to showcase your experience and expertise." The pitch to teachers is that the marketplace lets them reach more students and share what they know with people all over the world.
The course page above shows what a teacher fills in when publishing: a description, learning objectives, a level, requirements, a target audience, chapters broken into timed lessons, extra material, and a bio. Courses carry a price in US dollars or are offered free, and the selling tools visible to buyers are coupons (the "Apply coupon" field on every course page) and promotions (a catalog filter for courses "In promotion"). Teachers on the marketplace range from individuals to training companies: course cards are credited to people such as Timothy John Walker and Jonathan Palumbo, and to organizations such as VOE, SEPPAT SAS, EdSolver Learning and SkillsOnDemand.
The site does not set out what share of a sale the teacher keeps or how payouts work, so a creator planning income around Teachlr should contact its support center, which every page links to, before publishing.
The About page lists the team behind the platform, led by co-founder and CEO Jean Moises Annicchiarico, with a CTO, Andrés Fuentes, an in-house audiovisual production director and production manager, a UX designer, web developers, an iOS developer and an Android developer, and business development, marketing and research and sales staff.
The catalog and its prices
The catalog is organized into broad areas, each with its own subcategories: Academic (humanities, mathematics and science, university preparation), Personal Development (personal branding, leadership, personal finances, stress management, productivity), Design (3D and animation, architectural and interior design, game design, graphic design, user experience, fashion), Teacher Training (educational development, teaching design, teaching tools), Lifestyle (beauty and makeup, cooking, pets, spirituality and religion, travel), Photography and Video (digital photography, wedding photography, audiovisual production), Languages (German, Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian), IT & Software (certifications, hardware, network and security, operating systems), Marketing (branding, affiliate, content, social network and digital marketing, SEO), Music (instruments, production, software for music, voice), Business (data and analysis, entrepreneurship, project management, real estate, human resources, sales), Office Productivity (Google tools, Microsoft Office), Programming (mobile apps, databases, e-commerce, video game development, web development, software testing) and Health and Fitness (dance, meditation, nutrition, mental health, safety and first aid, yoga).
Each category page can be sorted by most recent, most popular, best rated or most visited, and filtered by language (English or Spanish), by price (paid or free) and by promotion.
Prices are set per course in US dollars, and the examples on the site show how wide the spread is. The home page's "Top online courses" include Bitcoin Breakthrough for free, Leadership: You Can Speak Like a Leader and Persuasion in Business Communications at USD 21 each, Applied Economics: Economics Made Easy at USD 24.99, Instagram Ads Success at USD 29, a Technical Analysis Day Trading and Swing Trading Strategies course at USD 39, the Forex course at USD 69, a Day Trading and Swing Trading Futures with Price Action course at USD 84.99, and a Certificate Program on Financial Management from VOE at USD 499. The Office Productivity category shows the cheaper end: a Curso de Microsoft Teams desde cero a experto at USD 2, Curso de PowerPoint desde Cero and Excel Pivot Tables at USD 5, Curso Google Analytics 4 and PowerPoint Essentials for Beginners at USD 10, two SkillsOnDemand Excel data analysis courses at USD 9.99, Learn Excel at USD 14.99, a SAP PM maintenance management course at USD 20, a course on personal data protection at USD 30, a Google Forms tutorial at USD 54 and a Spanish course on pivot tables at USD 99, plus free courses mixed in.
Who it suits
Teachlr suits learners who want one practical course at a time, often at a low price, on topics such as Excel, PowerPoint, trading, leadership or marketing, and who are happy to learn online at their own pace. Spanish speakers get more than a translated interface: about half the courses on the first Office Productivity results page carry Spanish titles. Free courses, such as Bitcoin Breakthrough and a Spanish Excel course, let a new learner try the format before paying.
It also suits teachers who work in Spanish or English and want a marketplace listing with their own profile, using a mix of video, audio, slides, readings and assessments rather than video alone, with coupons and promotions built into the storefront.
Two caveats are worth keeping in mind. Learners who need a credential from an institution should note that the certificate comes from the course's own teacher. And because guarantees, access terms and extras such as additional material are shown course by course, it pays to read each course page before buying rather than assume the same terms apply everywhere.
