Domestika
Tap a star to rate
Domestika is an online course platform and community for creative skills, with its headquarters in Berkeley. Learners buy self-paced video courses taught by working designers, illustrators, photographers, crafters, architects and marketers, and creative professionals can apply to teach a course that Domestika then produces with them. Its about page describes it as "the fastest-growing creative community," where creative experts share their knowledge and skills through "professionally produced online courses," under the line "Create. Share. Learn."
The company's story starts before the courses. The about page says Domestika began "as an online forum and a small but dynamic showcase of creative professionals" and widened its reach by producing courses once that community took off. It says it selects its teachers and produces every course in-house to keep quality consistent, and that the community is now home to millions of people around the world. The site runs in eleven languages, from Spanish, English and Portuguese to Polish, Turkish, Romanian and Bahasa Indonesia, and there is a Domestika app.
The catalog
The home page promises "thousands of courses taught by leading professionals" across sixteen categories: illustration, craft, marketing and business, photography and video, design, 3D and animation, architecture and spaces, fashion, writing, web and app design, calligraphy and typography, music and audio, artificial intelligence, culinary, wellness and a "How to become" group. Courses can also be browsed by area, from traditional and digital illustration, drawing, painting and fine arts to branding and identity, character design, textile design, storytelling, crochet, amigurumi, SEO and programming, and by software, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Lightroom, InDesign and Premiere, Procreate, Cinema 4D, Blender, Figma, SketchUp and ChatGPT.
Each course card shows the level, running time, number of students and a percentage rating with its review count. A few from the catalog:
- Introduction to Adobe Photoshop by Carles Marsal: beginner, 6h 54m, 382,930 students, 100% from 10K reviews, part of a five-course Domestika Basics series.

Beyond single courses the menu adds guided courses, Domestika Basics, Deep Dive courses (a newer format, including short AI projects such as creating short films with artificial intelligence), and Specializations. A specialization bundles several teachers into one long program: the Specialization in Graphic Design and Visual Communication runs 18h 2m with 32,864 students, and others cover social media marketing, watercolor, sewing, fashion design and garment-making, interior design, UX/UI design, sketching, embroidery, woodworking, oil painting, ceramics, music production, videography with DaVinci Resolve, and creative and children's book writing. Lists for new courses, top rated, popular and courses on sale help with browsing.
What taking a course is like
The home page sets out what to expect. Courses are self-paced with no set schedule. Videos are "of the highest quality", with unlimited access so a learner can rewatch a lesson as many times as needed to perfect a technique. Learning runs through real-world projects, and learners can ask questions, request feedback or offer solutions to other students in the community.
Learners can add courses to lists before buying, and each card has a Buy button. The site prints no course prices, but it does show that sale prices are temporary, with a countdown banner that reads "This price won't last long..." and a list of courses on sale. Gift cards are sold too.
Plus membership and certificates
Domestika Plus is the membership layer. The menu offers "Courses free with" Plus, and on the home page every specialization in the featured carousel carries a "FREE WITH" Plus label alongside its Buy button. Certificates and Projects are both marked as Plus features. The home page says that a Plus member gets "a custom certificate signed by your teacher for every course" to share "on your portfolio, social media, or wherever you like." The site does not give the membership's price.
Teaching on Domestika
The teachers page invites creatives to "Share your knowledge with the largest community of creatives and generate an income by teaching online courses." The process starts with a course proposal, which Domestika reviews before getting back to the applicant. Its FAQ answers the basics:
- Who can teach: any professional in the creative field, with a team reviewing every proposal in detail against Domestika's quality standards, so applicants should send enough about who they are and what they do.
- Cost: none. Domestika covers the course production costs, "and, on top of that, you'll earn money."
- What courses: ones built around creating a project in any of Domestika's areas.
- Course shape: usually between two and four hours of content, with at least 60% recommended in video format, and Domestika advises on the details.
- Payouts: teachers need a PayPal account, and Domestika sends payment instructions once it is verified.
The pitch is a partnership: "You bring the content and Domestika makes it happen." Teacher profiles act as public portfolios. The page for Esteban Ibarra, known as Guapo, a graphic designer from Adrogué, Buenos Aires, shows 34K students, a 100% rating from 411 reviews and two courses: Graphic Design with Geometric Shapes and the multi-teacher graphic design specialization. His bio describes his studio's work in visual identity, editorial and digital projects for brands in Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, the USA and Europe, and lists his logo work in the Los Logos 4 and 5 books from German publisher Gestalten.
Community and other sections
Alongside courses, the site has sections for Projects, Creatives, Jobs, Schools, Contests and Domestika Podcasts, and a blog with free resources, such as a downloadable guide to the wet-on-wet watercolor technique. Domestika also has an affiliates program and a separate offer for businesses.
Who it suits
Domestika suits hobbyists and working creatives who want short, well-produced courses from practitioners in a specific craft or tool, such as Procreate illustration, watercolor, Photoshop, furniture making, interior design or social media marketing, and who learn best by completing a project. Learners who want a longer, structured path can take a specialization, and frequent learners can weigh the Plus membership for its included courses and signed certificates.
For creative professionals, it is a way to teach without paying for production: Domestika reviews the proposal, produces the course and pays through PayPal. It suits less well a learner who wants live classes or a subject outside the creative fields, or a teacher who wants to publish on their own schedule without an editorial review.
