Socrative

Socrative is a real-time assessment tool for teachers and trainers. The teacher launches a quiz, a quick poll, an exit ticket or a Space Race game, students answer on their own devices, and results appear on the teacher's screen as they come in. The footer of every page says "Socrative is a product of Showbie Inc." The home page reports that 3M+ teachers use Socrative, 4M+ activities are launched every year and 60M+ students take part every year.

Its stated mission is "to connect teachers with students as learning happens, by providing fun and effective tools to gauge student understanding in real time." The site addresses four audiences: K-12, higher education, corporate and vocational education.

What a teacher gets

The product page headline is "Assess, engage, and act in real time," and the features follow from that.

Activities. Teachers can assess "with content prepared ahead of time, poll your students on the fly with quick questions or ask students to submit an out-the-door exit ticket." Activities run inside rooms, and Socrative can "Run up to twenty quizzes, polls, exit tickets, or Space Races at the same time" to handle several classes, remote and blended learning, or differentiated groups.

Space Race. This is the game element. It turns "any gradable assessment into a crowd-pleasing activity as individuals or groups race across the screen with correct answers." The home page lists it among the engagement tools alongside live polling and peer instruction.

Live results and question insights. Teachers "View student and class-level performance as answers are submitted." Clicking a question number or the class percentage opens a question-by-question view that the site suggests using "as a basis for class discussion or to group students for future instruction."

Instant feedback for students. "The moment they submit an answer, they receive a concise explanation and/or the correct response," which saves the teacher from repeating the same correction to each student.

Grading and reports. Quizzes are graded automatically, and reports cover "learners, class trends, and item analysis." Reports can be sent to students or downloaded, and the home page describes customizable results tables and exports for "summary sheets, detailed faculty reports, or individualized student printouts." Automated grading also "flags top performers and underachievers."

Rooms and rosters. Teachers can "manage and restrict access to your classroom with rostered rooms," importing rosters "via CSV or Excel" or building them by hand. Quizzes can also be imported from Excel and organized in folders on every plan.

Team libraries. Colleagues can "Collaborate on quiz creation for a consistent assessment approach," which is useful for a department that wants common quizzes.

Socrative AI

AI handles quiz creation in three ways, according to the home page: "Create Assessments in Seconds" by describing the assessment you need, generating questions from "class content you already trust," and "Transform Existing Quizzes" into Socrative assessments. The product page calls the import tool "AI Copy-Paste." On the pricing page these appear as three metered features, AI Question Generation, AI Question Import and AI Report Analysis, each with a weekly allowance that grows with the plan. Social studies teacher Lynda Hall, quoted on the site, says she has used Socrative "pretty much since its inception" and that "The recent additions like AI are great time savers!"

Up to 300 students can take a quiz in a room at once with a Socrative Pro plan." The FAQ also covers buying several seats, bulk Pro seats, purchase orders for Pro, trying before buying and the refund policy, with more answers in the help center.

Support and apps

Socrative has a help center, a "What's New" page for product updates, a blog, a contact page and a feature request form, where the company says it is "always striving for improvement." The footer lists separate apps for students and for teachers, and an accessibility declaration. Priority support and a dedicated account manager are reserved for the Organization plan.

What teachers say

The site quotes teachers by name. Sarah Mitchell, a high school math teacher: "This platform has completely changed how I assess student understanding. Real-time feedback helps me adjust my teaching on the spot." Lisa Thompson, a physics teacher: "Even my most reluctant students participate actively when we use the live polling features." Michael Johnson, a history teacher: "The analytics help me identify struggling students early, so I can provide support before they fall behind." Emily Chen, a middle school English teacher, points to the time saved on grading.

Who it suits

Socrative suits teachers who want frequent, low-effort checks for understanding: a warm-up at the start of a lesson, a poll mid-lesson, an exit ticket "before the bell rings." The Free plan is enough to try it with one class of up to 50, and the Essentials plan suits a teacher with several classes who wants rosters and longer report history. Pro is the plan for large lectures and departments, with 300 students per room and shared libraries, and the Organization plan is for organizations "standardizing and scaling assessments across multiple teams."

The trade-off is that the AI tools are metered by the week, so a teacher who generates a lot of content will want one of the higher plans. Socrative is also an assessment tool rather than a course platform, so lesson content and long-form coursework live elsewhere.
