Tutopiya

Tap a star to rate

Tutopiya is an exam-focused tutoring and self-study platform for secondary students preparing for Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE, UK GCSE (AQA, Edexcel, OCR), International AS/A Level, and the IB Diploma Programme, with IB MYP also covered. Its FAQ says it teaches students in 20+ countries, with dedicated resources for Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE, India and the wider international-school market. It combines live one-to-one tutoring with an AI-assisted question bank, revision notes, videos, mock exams and grade predictions. The platform is built around the specific curricula and exam boards students sit rather than general homework help, and it sells self-study and tutoring either separately or as a bundle. It is aimed at learners, and at the parents paying for them, who want structured preparation for high-stakes exams and a visible record of progress.

How tutoring works

Each student is matched with a tutor by an AI that, the home page says, analyzes 50+ factors to find a tutor whose teaching style and subject knowledge fit the learner's needs and goals. The site describes its tutors as Cambridge and IB examiners, subject specialists and award-winning teachers, and lists its vetting steps: full background checks, verified qualifications, subject knowledge tests, English proficiency checks, verified teaching experience, and student reviews and ratings. The home page says there are 5,000+ tutors to pick from.

Every plan starts with a free trial lesson, and the site says no credit card is required. If a tutor turns out not to be the right fit, Tutopiya offers what it calls a 100% satisfaction guarantee: it will match the learner with a new tutor immediately at no extra cost. Lessons are one-to-one, and the site advertises one-click class join and a mobile app for iOS and Android. Tutopiya argues for recurring weekly lessons over occasional catch-up sessions, saying that regular teaching builds on itself, and states that 83% of its students score As and A*s. That is the company's own figure; the home page presents it alongside its testimonials.

Tutoring plans are flexible: a family chooses 4, 8, 12 or 16 hours a month per subject and pays monthly, quarterly or annually. The home page says hours, tutor or the plan itself can be changed or canceled at any time. A parent account can be linked to the child's account to see what has been covered across every subject and exam board.

Study tools and resources

The self-study side is organized around a question bank the site calls the largest past paper question bank for IGCSE and AS/A Levels: 200,000+ auto-marked questions with instant AI feedback, gap analysis and custom study plans. The Tutopiya Pass also lists 40,000+ revision notes and videos, personalized learning paths, and mock exams with grade predictions. AI Buddy, described as a 24/7 study buddy, gives examiner-style feedback on every attempt, with accuracy scores, time analysis and improvement tips. Subject pages for IGCSE Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English Language and Computer Science each list question, note, video and past-paper counts.

Free tools sit alongside the paid plans: a study planner and revision timetable builder with a printable PDF planner, timed IGCSE and AS/A Level mock exams for Cambridge and Edexcel with instant results and a downloadable certificate, a past paper finder, a GPA calculator with curriculum-specific grade scales, a grade predictor, a career explorer, a tuition calculator, and a university shortlist builder that the site says matches grades to 410+ universities across 14 countries. The IGCSE Student Forum is described as the largest IGCSE student community on Tutopiya, where students ask questions and get help with past papers and exam tips. The site also offers free university counseling and application support.

Plans and prices

The home page shows prices in Singapore dollars and lets the visitor switch to Malaysian ringgit, Indian rupees, US dollars, British pounds or UAE dirhams. There are three paths.

Tutopiya Pass (self-study). Listed at SGD 120 a year, shown at SGD 96 a year during a 20% Exam Peak Season sale, which the page frames as just SGD 8 a month. It covers all 26 subjects (14 IGCSE and 12 AS/A Level), live past paper sessions with top tutors (all recorded), the question bank, notes and videos, AI feedback, learning paths, mock exams and grade predictions, up to 10% off tutoring plans, priority matching with top-rated tutors, and a dedicated account manager. A free platform trial is offered with no credit card.

Expert Tutoring (tutoring only). From SGD 48 a month, which the page breaks down as from SGD 12 an hour for 4 hours a month. The page notes that tutors set their own rates, so the hourly price depends on the tutor chosen. The FAQ says this makes Tutopiya up to 70% cheaper than traditional tuition centers.

Complete Package. The Pass plus one-to-one tutoring, marked Most Popular, with a 10% bundle discount when a family subscribes to both.

For tutors joining the platform

Tutopiya recruits experienced IGCSE, IB and A-Level teachers (those with 3+ years of experience are marked highest priority), experienced tutors from other curricula, and top IB, IGCSE and A-Level students with strong academic records and no prior tutoring experience, who get free training videos on curriculum mastery, AI tools and online teaching. The requirements page prefers at least one year of teaching experience and native or near-native English.

Tutors set their own hourly rate. The FAQ says Tutopiya's commission is 40 to 50% and is added on top of that rate and paid by the student, so the tutor keeps 100% of what they set. Payments arrive on the 15th of every month for lessons completed the month before, processed automatically, and the page promises tutors will never chase payments or deal with bounced checks.

Teaching on the platform requires a subscription. The Essential Plan costs SGD 10 a month; the Professional Plan costs SGD 20 for 3 months and adds premium profile visibility plus priority placement in search and in Smart Match student recommendations; the Professional Annual Plan costs SGD 90 a year, which the page says equals SGD 7.50 a month. All plans include learning resources, past papers and AI tools, Microsoft Teams and platform software licenses, and teacher training resources. Subscription fees are non-refundable. The FAQ says tutors can start teaching within 48 hours of approval, and the tutor toolkit includes a Cohort Analytics Dashboard for comparing student progress across a class.

Who it suits

Tutopiya suits secondary students sitting Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE, UK GCSE, AS/A Level or the IB, and the parents who want to see what their child is doing between lessons. The Pass suits a student who mainly needs volume of exam-style practice with fast feedback; Expert Tutoring suits one who needs a specialist in a weak subject; the Complete Package suits a family that wants both and is planning for a full exam season. The free trial lesson and the tutor-switch guarantee lower the cost of finding the right match.

It suits less well a learner outside the exam boards it covers, since the catalog, the question bank and the tutors are all organized around those syllabi. For teachers, it suits exam-board specialists and strong recent students who want a steady stream of international students and monthly payouts, provided they accept the subscription fee and a commission added on top of their rate.
