What GoStudent is
GoStudent is a tutoring company that matches school students with private tutors for one-to-one lessons, mostly online and, in Germany, also in person. It is a product for parents and students choosing a tutor, with a second side for tutors who want paid work. The German homepage headline reads "Personalisierte Online-Nachhilfe & Präsenzunterricht" (personalized online tutoring and in-person lessons), and the company describes its mission as building "die globale Nachhilfeschule Nummer 1" (the number one global tutoring school).
The site runs in several country editions: the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, Poland, the Netherlands and Greece. The German pages list subjects including math, chemistry, physics, biology, English, French, Italian, Spanish and German, and school types from Grundschule (primary) to Gymnasium, vocational school and Abitur. The UK pages list Key Stage 1 to 4, SATs, 11+, iGCSE, IB, GCSE, A Levels, AS Levels, Advanced Higher, Higher and National 5. The FAQ says GoStudent helps "in allen Schulfächern" (in all school subjects), most often math, German and English, and is currently expanding the offer to university subjects. It adds that the offer is for students of all ages and that it also provides one-to-one language training for adults.
How lessons work
Getting started takes three steps on the homepage. A family books a free trial lesson and describes its goals, and GoStudent finds a tutor "die zum Niveau, zur Persönlichkeit und zum Tempo deines Kindes passt" (who fits your child's level, personality and pace). The family then tries a first lesson "ganz unverbindlich" (without obligation), and can continue with that tutor or "wechsle jederzeit kostenlos" (switch at any time for free). After that comes a personalized plan with weekly lessons. The trial is free with "Keine Verpflichtung. Keine Kreditkarte nötig." (No obligation. No credit card needed.)
Lessons are 50 minutes of one-to-one teaching. Online, they run in GoClass, which the site calls its virtual classroom: live video with an interactive whiteboard, quizzes and AI-generated summaries, plus recorded lessons. GoClass produces a summary after every lesson so parents can follow progress. The pricing page adds unlimited access to a learning manager where students can chat with their tutor, plan lessons, view lesson notes, review materials and vocabulary lists, and use an equation editor. Booking runs through the student's learning profile: log in with a mobile number, click "Nachhilfe buchen" (book tutoring), pick a tutor, then a date and time. The FAQ notes that "Kurzfristige Buchungen und Tutorenwechsel sind aufgrund der Vielfalt an Tutor*innen möglich" (short-notice bookings and tutor changes are possible because of the variety of tutors).
In person, the homepage offers one-to-one or group lessons "in unseren Lernzentren in ganz Deutschland" (in our learning centers across Germany), along with group courses and learning events. The menu links local pages for Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Munich, Dortmund and Cologne. The About page explains where these centers come from: GoStudent expanded by acquiring the AI-driven learning resource platform Seneca Learning and the open tutoring marketplace Tus Media, and added the in-person tutoring company Studienkreis.
Support is available "7 Tage die Woche" (7 days a week) through a Customer Success team. Under "Sicheres Online-Lernen" (safe online learning) the pricing page lists secure payment, no third-party costs, carefully selected and checked tutors, and a secure online learning platform. Codes of conduct for students and for tutors are linked in the footer, and there is an app to download.
Prices
The German pricing page sells memberships priced per lesson. Its heading reads "Personalisierte Nachhilfe mit flexiblen Mitgliedschaften ab 20 €" (personalized tutoring with flexible memberships from €20), and "Wenn du mehr Einheiten buchst, sinkt der Preis pro Einheit" (the more lessons you book, the lower the price per lesson). The worked examples all assume a 12-month membership: from €20 per lesson at 12 lessons a month for 12 months, up to €36.01 per lesson at 4 lessons a month for 12 months. The FAQ gives a base price: "Der Basispreis für eine 50-minütige Online-Einheit (Einzelunterricht) liegt bei 15,90 €" (the base price for a 50-minute online one-to-one lesson is €15.90), adding that the actual price depends on the membership chosen. The page title advertises lessons "schon ab 19,99 € pro Einheit" (from €19.99 per lesson). These figures sit side by side on the page, so families should price their own plan in the calculator. The membership includes the tutoring, the learning manager and the AI learning tools, under the heading "Ein Preis, alles inklusive" (one price, all inclusive).
GoStudent Learning is a separate subscription for self-study, with "Tausenden von spannenden, interaktiven Lernhilfen" (thousands of interactive study aids), AI-generated quizzes and practice questions, and an AI tutor called Amelia who answers questions in any subject. "Nach einem kostenlosen Probemonat kostet das GoStudent Learning-Abo nur 14,90 € im Monat" (after a free trial month, the subscription costs €14.90 a month).
Results and reviews
The pricing page claims "10 Mio. unterstützte Familien" (10 million families supported), "30+ Fächer" (subjects), "96 % 4- und 5-Sterne-Bewertungen" (4 and 5 star reviews) and that "93 % verbessern ihre Noten" (93% improve their grades). A footnote on the page reads "based on a survey of 1,628 UK/IRE parents and students conducted in March 2023." The homepage headline gives a "95% Erfolgsrate" (success rate) while its page title says 93%. It also shows a 4.4 Trustpilot rating from "23k Bewertungen" (reviews) and "23k+ Geprüfte Nachhilfelehrkräfte" (verified tutors). The pricing page shows a "Preis-Leistungssieger 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025" (best value) badge.
Company background
The About page says GoStudent began in 2015 as a WhatsApp homework chat. Co-founder and CEO Felix Ohswald was then studying for a master's in quantitative finance at ETH Zürich, and his younger brother Moritz sent classmates to him for math homework help. Felix teamed up with his friend Gregor Müller, now co-founder and COO, and GoStudent was founded in 2016. The timeline lists over 100,000 users in 2017, €13.3 million raised in 2020 and the start of international expansion, unicorn status in 2021, and €300 million raised in 2022 with three strategic acquisitions. Today the page describes GoStudent as "ein durch Risikokapital finanziertes EdTech-Unicorn" (a venture-capital-financed edtech unicorn). Both founders were on the 2023 Forbes "30 Under 30 Europe" list.
For tutors
The UK tutor page says "Anyone over 18 can apply to become a tutor. Previous experience is a plus, but not required." The five steps are a sign-up form, a subject quiz, an introductory video, onboarding with the Tutor Team and a self-study course, and then teaching; the FAQ adds a valid background check before approval. Tutors work as self-employed and "earn an hourly rate," with a Loyalty Bonus under which "the more lessons you complete the more your hourly rate will increase." The earnings calculator runs from £620 a month "for just 10 lessons per week" to £2480 a month "For about 40 Lessons per week." Tutors get GoClass, messaging through GoChat, GoStudent Learning and Magic Quizzes. The page speaks of "a global community of 23,000+ tutors."
Who it suits and who it does not
GoStudent suits parents who want a matched one-to-one tutor for a school child, weekly lessons on a plan, lesson summaries to follow progress, and the option to switch tutors for free. It fits families in its ten country markets, and in Germany those who want a mix of online lessons and a local learning center. UK families can find GCSE, A Level, 11+, IB and Scottish exam tutors.
It suits less well a family that wants to buy single lessons with no commitment, since the worked price examples assume a 12-month membership, or a learner looking for a tutor outside school subjects and language training.
