Tissimo

Tissimo is an online music lesson marketplace: students browse independent music teachers and their courses, book live one-to-one lessons, and take them in Tissimo's own browser classroom built for music. It serves learners first, from beginners to advanced players, and also teachers who want a place to sell lessons. The About page describes Tissimo as "an online music learning space that brings teachers and students together," with the mission "To connect musicians and music learners and help them discover their full potential." The footer dates the site from 2020, and the About page lists three cofounders, among them a piano instructor with 15 years of teaching experience, plus developers, a legal consultant and three music engravers who prepare its sheet music.

Courses and teachers

On Tissimo a "course" is the unit a teacher sells: the help center defines it as a specific instrument or subject a teacher offers for private lessons. The home page says teachers organize their content "into specialized courses based on genres, subjects, and levels." The course catalog filters by instrument family (brass, guitar, keyboard, percussion, strings, technology, theoretical, voice, woodwinds), by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced), by hourly price, rating and lesson length from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and by whether a course carries the satisfaction guarantee or a video preview. Courses shown include Mixing/Mastering in Logic Pro X, Violin Lessons, Bass Clarinet Lessons, Voice Lessons for alto and soprano, acoustic and electric guitar for beginners and intermediates, Clarinet Lessons and a beginner piano course called Piano Rocks!

The teacher directory adds filters for certifications, education (associate, bachelor, master, doctorate), years of experience up to 15+, and each teacher's cancellation, reschedule and booking-notice policies. Profiles carry a bio, a video, education and experience, and teaching languages. The home page says Tissimo's tutors are "individually screened to ensure they meet our high standards," and the help center describes the steps: a teacher application, a 15-minute onboarding interview, ID verification and financial onboarding.

Prices, trials and the guarantee

Teachers set their own rates. The course cards show hourly prices of $50.00, $60.00, $65.00 and $95.00, and the price filter runs from $50 to $200 +. Every first lesson with a teacher is a 30-minute trial at a 50% discount, so a $50.00 an hour course shows a trial at $12.50 and a $95.00 course a trial at $23.75. The home page adds a satisfaction promise: if a student is not satisfied with a first lesson, they "may request a free trial with another" teacher. The help center explains that Tissimo refunds the lesson credit so the student can book that second trial, and that the guarantee is always enabled for new teachers; a separate article covers teachers opting in or out of it.

After a trial, students can book one-off lessons or set up recurring weekly lessons, and can buy bundles of lesson hours that load into a course balance for that teacher, with an optional automatic refill. The help center has articles on Tissimo's service fee for students, refunds, and transferring a balance between courses. Each teacher sets cancellation and reschedule windows (the directory filter runs from 4 h to 72 h) and a booking notice of up to 168 h.

The classroom and practice tools

The classroom is Tissimo's main technical feature. The home page says it "features the greatest possible audio quality" and is "specifically tailored to make learning music online as easy as possible," with a built-in metronome, tone generator, visual instruments, sheet music integration, a music notepad and messaging. Help articles cover a piano keyboard tool, a guitar chord tool, drawing and annotation, and audio and camera settings. Teachers can draw with a student live on a notation sheet and send lesson notes afterwards.

Anyone can try the Open Classroom without an account: "two-way video with a shared piano, guitar, metronome and sheet music, right in your browser." A user creates a room and shares the link.

Between lessons, a practice area lets students add, view and annotate sheet music, tune their instrument, practice with a metronome, save presets, read the teacher's notes, write their own and track practice time, with a weekly practice goal. The home page also names an "AI music tutor" among the tools for learning outside the classroom. The sheet music side offers 100+ free sheets, 300+ sheets on the store, a personal library for uploaded music, and sheets that can be shared and played in a lesson; the footer adds worksheets. Tissimo works as a mobile-responsive web application rather than a separate app store app, according to the help center.

For teachers

The become-a-teacher page promises control: set your own schedule, teach in a specialized classroom, manage students in one place, and build courses. Pay works on what the page calls "a merit based commission system," and the help center explains a tiered fee: the more hours a teacher teaches, the higher the tier and the larger the share of each lesson payment they keep. Payouts run through Stripe Connect to a bank account or debit card, with standard and instant payout options. A teacher dashboard tracks time spent teaching, a weekly teaching goal and tier progress, and lets teachers sort students, keep student notes and view lesson history. Teachers can respond to student reviews. There is also an affiliate program that pays commission for referring students and teachers.

Students and teachers sign up with email or a Google account. Support runs through a contact form in the help center, which quotes an average response time of 1 day and replies from a support email address.

Who it suits and who it does not

Tissimo suits a music student who wants a private teacher online and wants to try one cheaply first: the half-price 30-minute trial and the free second trial under the guarantee keep the risk small. It is a good fit for instruments and subjects the catalog shows (voice, piano, guitar, violin, clarinet, music production in Logic Pro X), and for students who will use the practice area and sheet library between lessons. Parents and adult learners can filter teachers by education, experience and cancellation policy before booking. For teachers, it offers a music-specific classroom, scheduling and payments, with a commission that falls as their teaching hours grow.

It is not a self-paced course site. Every course is a series of live lessons with one teacher, so a learner who wants pre-recorded video lessons to work through alone, or group classes, will not find that format. Prices vary by teacher, and ratings in the directory are still empty for some newer teachers, so the trial lesson does much of the vetting from the student's side.
