What My Engineering Buddy is
My Engineering Buddy (MEB) is a private online tutoring service for students who need one-to-one help with advanced and technical coursework: engineering, STEM and graduate-level subjects, alongside exam prep and school-level tutoring. The About section says it was founded in 2008 and is operated by BlueAura iSolutions Private Limited, with a registered office in Patna and an office in Bengaluru, India. It connects students from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and the Gulf with "over 1,000 verified tutors", primarily from IITs, NITs and equivalent institutions, for live sessions on Google Meet. The banner headline is "Zero AI. 100% Human.": the site says "every message, tutor match, and tutoring session is handled by a real human". The founder, Pankaj Kumar, signs a personal guarantee on the home page.
How a student gets a tutor
There is no account to create and no tutor catalog to browse. A student writes on WhatsApp or by email with a subject and level and shares any course material. The home page says a real person replies "within minutes, 24/7" (elsewhere "in about a minute") and that MEB matches the student with a tutor "within the hour". The student agrees the fee and pays, then joins the session through a Google Meet link. The tutor has reviewed the material in advance, the two work on a live two-way whiteboard, and written notes arrive on WhatsApp after every session. The site sums the process up as "From first message to live session in about an hour." One testimonial, from Mohammed at Purdue University, says he shared his requirements on WhatsApp and was connected with a tutor within 3 hours.
What the service covers
The site claims 2,800+ subjects "From AP and SAT prep to PhD-level engineering". The popular list includes calculus, statistics and probability, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, computer science, Python, Java, data science, economics, finance, and mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. It is organized into three services plus essay writing:
- 1:1 online tutoring, school level to PhD, with "Verified IIT, NIT & top-university tutors".
- Homework guidance inside a tutoring session, where the student works through their own assignment step by step. The page names course platforms such as Blackboard, Canvas and MyLab and frames it as learning support and "never a homework mill". MEB publishes an Academic Integrity Policy and says "We never complete graded work."
- Exam and test prep with a specialist tutor for AP, SAT, ACT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, IB, A-Level and EmSAT, including AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics and IB Math HL/SL.
The tutor examples on the home page show who teaches. Each card gives a tutor ID, years of experience, tutoring hours, degree, institution and rating: a computer science tutor with a bachelor's from Thapar Institute, 2 years of experience, 1,091 tutoring hours and a 5.0 rating; a math tutor with a master's from IIT Kanpur, 8 years and 2,657 hours; a mechanical engineering tutor with 9 years and 2,991 hours; a statistics tutor with a master's from IISc Bangalore; a civil engineering tutor with a doctorate from IIT Palakkad; and specialists in mechatronics, industrial engineering, electrical and electronics, geology, management and humanities. Most cards show ratings between 4.6 and 5.0.
Prices and the $1 trial
Tutors are "professional subject experts who set their own price based on demand, your academic level, session frequency, and topic complexity". The home page headline says private 1:1 tutors cost "$20 - 35 per hour on average" and lists starting rates by level:
- School (grade 10 and below): from $20 an hour.
- College prep (grades 11 to 12, AP, IB, SAT, ACT, A-Level): from $25 an hour.
- College and university (undergraduate): from $30 an hour.
- Postgraduate and beyond (MTech, MSc, MBA, PhD): from $35 an hour.
The rate is confirmed before each session. Homework, lab and project guidance happens inside tutoring sessions rather than as a separate product. New students can try 30 minutes with a real tutor on Google Meet for $1, and the page promises to refund the $1 with "no conditions" if the student is not satisfied. It also states that "75% of students find their preferred tutor on the very first trial session." Payment is by PayPal, card, UPI or bank transfer, and there is no subscription. Beyond the trial, the Founder's Guarantee promises "a personal money-back guarantee", described in the footer as "The founder's personal guarantee on every session"; the home page does not set out its conditions, which sit in the Refund Policy.
Track record claims
The site's own figures: 52,000+ students served, 18+ years of trust, 1,000+ verified tutors, 2,800+ subjects and a "97% Satisfaction Rate". It reports 4.8/5 from 40,000+ reviews, with platform ratings of 4.7 on Trustpilot, 4.8 on Google and 4.8 on Reviews.io. It lists students from universities including Purdue, LSE, the University of Cambridge, Brown, the University of Iowa, Michigan State, Queen Mary University of London, King Saud University and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Testimonials include Laura at MSU ("MEB is easy to use. Super quick. Reasonable pricing.") and Amanda at LSE, who says she "mostly got 90%+" in her assignments. These are the company's own claims and reviews. Another reviewer, Olivia, writes: "It is hard to match the quality of tutoring MEB provides, even at double the price."
The role of the coordinator
The human coordinator is the product as much as the tutors are. The founder's note on the home page says "We handle everything for you: choosing the right tutor, agreeing a fair price, and ensuring quality." In practice that means the student never negotiates directly with a stranger: MEB picks the tutor, agrees the fee, passes on the student's materials so the tutor arrives prepared, and stays the point of contact on WhatsApp or email before and after each session. Tutors who want to teach apply through a Become a Tutor page.
Who it suits
MEB suits college and graduate students stuck on demanding technical coursework, such as engineering mechanics, statistics or advanced math, who want a specialist tutor quickly and prefer to describe the problem to a person rather than browse profiles. Students preparing for the SAT, AP exams, GRE, GMAT or MCAT get the same hand-matching. The $1 trial and per-session payment suit anyone who wants to test a tutor before committing, and the WhatsApp-first contact suits students who need help late at night. It is not a course platform: there are no recorded lessons, no self-paced curriculum and no group classes, so learners who want a structured program or a certificate should look elsewhere. Students who want to choose a tutor themselves from profiles and reviews may find the coordinator-led matching less transparent than an open marketplace.
