What it is

Mobile Tutors is a Canadian tutoring company based in Edmonton, Alberta, offering one-on-one tutoring either in the student's home or online. The homepage title calls it a "Personalized Tutoring Service in Canada," the footer gives an Edmonton address, and the banner reads "Proudly Canadian." The company says it covers "all ages, grade levels and subjects including English, Math, Sciences, social studies, French and Spanish," and the online tutoring page describes tutoring "for all grade levels and all subjects from kindergarten right up to university level."

The company's philosophy is stated in one line: "the right tutor and right mindset have always been the cornerstone of our philosophy." Its tutors are meant to "drive the concept mastery while also boosting confidence and building lifelong learning skills." Both pages call the service "Award-Winning," which is the company's own description; no award is named.

What it covers

Beyond school subjects, the homepage lists math from algebra and geometry to calculus, biology, chemistry and physics, and test preparation for the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, GED, SAT and ACT. The online page also mentions preparing for an ESL test. The menu adds college and university tutoring, special needs and ADHD support, career counseling and consulting, and college admissions consulting. A note invites families who do not see their subject to ask, since "we probably provide it." Testimonials point to the range in practice: Grade 12 Math 31, French immersion support, university statistics, and Grade 11 math, chemistry and physics.

How it works

The homepage sets out a four-step approach. Families start with the registration page, answering questions about the student's needs, preferences and availability. Mobile Tutors then uses that form to match the student with a tutor within 24 hours, weighing learning style, academic strengths and weaknesses, availability, geography and personality. The tutor calls to arrange sessions at home, at an agreed location or online, and sets academic goals with the student in a personalized tutoring plan. Mobile Tutors then tracks the student's progress against those goals.

The company's education consultants "first assess their unique strengths and challenges to build a tutoring strategy." Every tutor works to the same method: "weekly curriculum worksheets & biweekly testing to reinforce materials covered." Sessions follow the student's school curriculum, and the company says this approach builds confidence before exams.

A free consultation comes first. The banner promises that "A 3-minute call can make all the difference," and the online page adds a "FREE 15-minute meet and greet session with your assigned tutor before booking your first paid lesson."

In-home tutoring

The in-home option sends the tutor to the student. "Our world-class tutors come to you, so tutoring times and locations are very flexible," the homepage says, and tutors can also meet students at another place the family chooses. One parent says they "were able to secure service within a few days even though we requested help at a very busy time during final exams." A COVID-19 protocol page, written for in-home sessions in Alberta, explains that parents can switch from in-home to online tutoring at any time.

Online tutoring

Online sessions run on Lesson Space, the platform Mobile Tutors uses for live lessons. The page lists its tools: live audio and video, a shared whiteboard where students can draw, type and upload assignments and notes in Word, image, PowerPoint and PDF formats, live editing of a student's essays and research papers, a code editor "With syntax highlighting for multiple programming languages, from C to SQL," and recording: "All lessons are recorded making it easy for students review and playback recorded lessons at a later date." After each lesson, tutor and student rate each other. A family needs "a computer, laptop, or tablet equipped with a webcam and high-speed internet connection," and because the service is online, the company says it can match students with tutors anywhere in Canada.

Tutors

Mobile Tutors says it recruits tutors "with the right teaching experience and strong academic background," and that its tutors are "Provincial Certified Teachers, Subject Specialists, and Graduates from top Canadian Universities." The homepage says every tutor passes a screening process and a background check before joining the team. Parents in the testimonials mention keeping the same tutor for long stretches, and tutors who answer questions between sessions by e-mail or text.

Price and guarantee

The online tutoring page gives a starting price: "Affordable tutoring rate starting from $50.00 per hour!" In-home rates are not printed; families call or fill in the form for pricing after the free consultation. The service is backed by a "100% Tutor Satisfaction Guarantee": "We guarantee we will find the right tutor, or we will cover the first lesson," worded elsewhere as "or your first lesson is FREE."

Results and reviews

The homepage says "98% of our clients would recommend us to their friends and family." Testimonials are detailed. Terri M. writes that her daughter's "math mark increased about 25%" and that she "completed her school year, with Honors." Keli T. says her son "managed to keep his French Grade 9 mark above 90% even though he never took French before that year." Jillian B. writes that her son, who was struggling, "ended the school year with an honours certificate in grade 6 reading." The parents of a Grade 12 Math 31 student watched their son "go from frustration and a failing grade to confidence and an excellent grade." Another parent says her son's junior high grades went "from the mid-50s in most subjects to a level where he was accepted into the IB program in high school." A university student credits a statistics tutor who "helped me to excel in my statistics course."

Who it suits

Mobile Tutors suits families in and around Edmonton who want a tutor at the kitchen table, and families anywhere in Canada who are happy to work online. It fits parents who want a structured plan with weekly worksheets and regular tests rather than open-ended homework help, and students preparing for admissions tests like the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT or MCAT. The recorded online lessons and code editor make the online option useful for older students revising for exams or working on programming assignments, and the special needs and ADHD support broadens who the service can take on.

It is a weaker fit for learners who want self-paced courses rather than a personal tutor, and for families who need a firm in-home price before talking to anyone, since only the online starting rate is published.
