Langu

Tap a star to rate

Langu is an online language tutoring platform that connects learners with teachers for live private lessons, with group lessons and company programs on top. The homepage headline is "Online language lessons, with top teachers," and the pitch underneath is private lessons "taught by the very best teachers, from all over the world." The footer names the operator as E-Polyglot Ltd, gives a London address on City Road, and says the product is made in London, Berlin and Warsaw.

The company's line on who it serves is broad: "Anyone can learn a language! All ages, levels and needs are welcome." The homepage then splits that into business professionals, kids, students preparing for exams, and "Hobbyists & Polyglots," with a separate offer for managers and HR departments buying lessons for teams. The footer also links a Langu for Education page.

What learners actually get

The model is a marketplace of individual teachers. A learner searches by language, level, speciality or availability, picks a teacher, books times ("the same slot every week, or mix it up"), and enters the classroom "with one click" when the lesson starts. The homepage describes payment as buying "a single lesson, or a package of 5 or 10 lessons that can be scheduled at any time." Lessons are live and private by default, and the teacher listing pages describe them as covering "Beginner to Advanced."

Langu runs lessons in its own virtual classroom rather than in a third-party video tool. The homepage lists what it includes: a "live HD audio/video connection," an "interactive whiteboard," and the ability to "share resources in real time: pictures, PDFs, videos and more." The business page says the company "developed a dedicated virtual classroom specifically for face-to-face online language learning, with a focus on fostering interpersonal connections."

Every teacher has a profile card with a short pitch, a video, a rating with its count, the languages they teach and also speak, their top specialities, a trial price and an hourly rate. Specialities shown on the English teacher list include Conversation, Business, Grammar, Kids, Presentation Skills, Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Interview Prep, General Learning, Test Preparation and IELTS. Some teachers state their own credentials on their cards; one describes herself as "a TEFL-certified teacher with over 10 years of experience," and another as a "TEFL-Certified Specialist Helping Adults and Professionals." Those are the teachers' own descriptions, not a platform-wide qualification.

The homepage describes the teachers as "Professional, experienced, and friendly" and says only top teachers are admitted, and the business page says teachers are "picked from thousands of applicants."

Languages and exam preparation

The homepage list of languages a learner can study reads Polish, UK/USA English, French, Italian, Arabic, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, Dutch and Swedish. The footer adds separate teacher pages for Brazilian Portuguese, British English and American English. English is clearly the deepest pool: the English teacher page claims a 5.0 average across "300,000+ teacher ratings."

Exam preparation is a named track. The footer links preparation pages for IELTS, TOEFL, FCE (B2 First), CAE (C1 Advanced), CPE (C2 Proficiency), the Polish Matura, DELE for Spanish, DELF for French, OET and GCSE. The homepage promise to students is to "Pass language proficiency exams, such as IELTS or FCE, with flying colours."

Professional English is the other big theme, with footer pages for English for speaking and conversation, business, finance and banking, marketing, the IT industry, engineering, law and tourism, plus language teachers for media and economics.

Prices and trial lessons

Langu does not publish a single price list. Each teacher sets an hourly rate, shown as a "from" price on the profile card. On the English teacher list, rates ran from €13.00 per hour (a TEFL-certified conversation and business teacher) to €42.50 per hour, with most cards between €17.50 and €25.50. Examples include "from €18.00/ hr" for Ross Mclelland, whose card reads "Native English teacher with 9 years experience," €22.00 for Arianna K., and €31.50 for Lisa Beaumont, a Conversation, Business and Presentation Skills teacher with 2,901 ratings.

Trial lessons are priced per teacher too. Some cards show a "FREE Trial Lesson," and others charge a small trial fee, from €3.00 up to €15.50 on the English list. The top navigation carries a "Book a Trial" button. Prices on the list are shown in EUR. The FAQ covers paying in local currency, discounts for booking more lessons, refunds when plans change, rescheduling and canceling, and whether lessons expire.

Track record

The homepage gives three headline numbers: 98% of lessons given a five-star rating, "15,000+ students who've reached their goals," and "250+ qualified and trusted teachers." It adds that the teachers "have received 100,000+ 5-star reviews from students all over the world." Individual cards back up the volume, with rating counts such as 1,128, 2,121, 2,534, 3,510 and 3,830 on the English list.

Langu for companies

The business page pitches online language learning for companies, made simple. Employees choose their own teachers and set their own schedules, under "Flexible contracts. No long-term commitments." The page lists what a company gets: individual classes in "English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and more," group English lessons ("a great way to foster both communication and team-building"), a manager dashboard showing lesson usage for every employee in real time, a branded booking page with the company's logo, standardized language level assessments to set a baseline and measure progress, and co-financing, where "the employer can cover all lessons costs or share them with the employee." Each client gets a dedicated account manager. A quote on the page comes from a "Business partner since 2021." No corporate prices are published; companies fill in a contact form with the number of employees and languages needed.

Who it suits and who it doesn't

Langu suits adult learners and parents who want live, one-on-one lessons with a teacher they choose, at times they set, and who like seeing a teacher's video, rating count and price before booking. It is a strong option for English learners in particular, given the depth of that teacher pool, and for anyone preparing for IELTS, Cambridge or other named exams. The single-lesson and 5 or 10 lesson packages suit learners who do not want a subscription. HR teams and managers get a practical setup with a dashboard, level assessments, cost sharing and an account manager.

It is less suited to learners who want a self-paced app, recorded courses or a fixed curriculum, since everything here is a live lesson with an individual teacher. Learners of a language outside the listed set will not find teachers for it. Price comparison takes some effort, because each teacher sets both an hourly rate and a trial price.
