What instateacher.gr is
instateacher.gr is a Greek-language marketplace for private lessons. Families, students and adults search for a teacher by subject, compare profiles and get in touch, and the lessons happen either in person or online through the site's own online teaching platform. The homepage introduces itself in one sentence: "Το instateacher.gr είναι η μεγαλύτερη πλατφόρμα για ιδιαίτερα μαθήματα στην Ελλάδα, με 9.000+ καθηγητές σε 400+ μαθήματα και 20.000+ αξιολογήσεις μαθητών." (instateacher.gr is the largest platform for private lessons in Greece, with 9,000+ teachers in 400+ subjects and 20,000+ student reviews.) It goes on to say that it connects students with teachers, online and in person, for all ages and all levels.
The counters under the search box give the more exact figures: 9340 teachers, 425 subjects and 20700 reviews. The largeness claim is the company's own description of itself.
What a learner actually gets
The starting point is a search box asking "Τι θέλεις να μάθεις;" (What do you want to learn?). The header also offers a "find a teacher" page and a "Βρες καθηγητή με AI" option (find a teacher with AI). Teachers register through their own sign-up page, and the site has pages explaining how it works, a FAQ, articles and a page listing areas. The footer also links instaTeacher apps.
The catalog is the strongest part of the site. The homepage groups subjects into school subjects (106), university subjects (339), foreign languages, music, computer science (150), dance, arts, and sports and wellness. The online lessons page then lists hundreds of individual subjects:
- School. Primary school creative activities and study support; lower and upper secondary mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology; a long list of language and humanities subjects such as ancient Greek, ancient Greek from translation, essay writing, history, sociology, Latin, modern Greek language and literature, and philosophy; plus geography, computer science, technology, robotics, application development (ΑΕΠΠ), economic theory (ΑΟΘ) and business administration (ΑΟΔΕ). International exam programs are listed too: GCSE, IB Diploma and IGCSE.
- Vocational upper secondary (ΕΠΑΛ). A deep list covering health subjects (hematology, radiation protection, anatomy and physiology, nursing, first aid, pharmaceutical technology), maritime subjects (ship engineering, navigation, maritime law), electrical and mechanical engineering, agriculture, tourism, accounting, logistics and computer networks.
- University. Hundreds of courses, from algebraic structures, numerical analysis, Galois theory and topology to accounting, econometrics, international finance, law, psychology, pharmacology, structural engineering, reinforced concrete, fluid mechanics, algorithms, cryptography and artificial intelligence, plus ATPL theory for pilots.
- Languages. English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, and also Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Greek for foreigners, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Norwegian, Dutch, Ukrainian, Persian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Swedish and Turkish.
- Music. Music theory, harmony, counterpoint, composition, Byzantine music and makam; instruments from piano, violin, guitar and drums to bouzouki, baglamas, Cretan lyra, oud and handpan; singing; and music production in Ableton, Cubase, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Sibelius.
- Computing. Programming in Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Kotlin, Dart and Flutter, among others; web development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Vue, Node.js, PHP, Laravel and WordPress; databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB; design software from Photoshop and Illustrator to AutoCAD, Revit, Blender and Unreal Engine; Microsoft Office; data science with R; and machine learning and deep learning.
- Dance, arts and wellness. Greek traditional dance, ballet, hip hop, salsa, tango and zumba; drawing, painting, animation, photography, filmmaking, theater, ceramics and creative writing; and yoga, Pilates, personal training, CrossFit, swimming, tennis, chess, martial arts, nutrition, life coaching and business coaching.
Some of the more unusual entries show how far the list stretches: statistics and research software (SPSS, Stata, Matlab, R Studio, LaTeX and ArcGIS), Moodle and Microsoft Power Platform, Braille, public speaking, music therapy, a beautician's assistant course and facial care, dog training, chess and parent counseling.
That range means a parent, a university student, an adult learning an instrument or a professional learning a design tool can all use the same search.
Online lessons
The online lessons page says the company built its own platform for online teaching, so a student can take lessons online with the teacher they choose. It describes the format this way: "Έχοντας αποδειχθεί εξίσου αποτελεσματικά με τα ιδιαίτερα στο σπίτι, τα online μαθήματα προσφέρουν ευελιξία, εξοικονόμηση χρόνου και ελευθερία επιλογής χωρίς περιορισμούς μετακίνησης." (Having been shown to be as effective as private lessons at home, online lessons offer flexibility, time savings and freedom of choice without travel restrictions.) The same page invites learners to take online lessons with "πιστοποιημένους καθηγητές" (certified teachers) in more than 400 subjects. That effectiveness claim is the company's own.
Reviews and what users say
The homepage displays 1200+ Google reviews and quotes a selection of them. One reviewer calls it easy to use, with many teachers and direct contact with a teacher after targeted suggestions. Another praises the "ποικιλία τιμών και μεθόδων εκμάθησης" (variety of prices and learning methods), and a third notes that teachers each charge different prices, so there is a wide range to choose from. One parent writes that the family's choice of teacher worked out and that their child got into their first-choice school in the 2024 Panhellenic exams. Another reviewer found 3 teachers for piano, singing and mathematics through the site.
Other reviewers single out specific uses. One found a German teacher through the site and stresses that the sheer number of teachers at every level is what makes the difference. Another says the site is especially good for anyone interested in online lessons, a third calls it particularly useful for university students, and a fourth describes it as useful for parents at every stage of education. Several mention ease of use and the amount of information shown about each teacher.
As those reviews say, prices vary from teacher to teacher; the homepage itself shows no central price list.
Who it suits and who it does not
instateacher.gr suits Greek-speaking learners who want to choose their own teacher from a very large pool. It is particularly useful when the subject is specific: a vocational ΕΠΑΛ course, a niche university module, a traditional instrument or a particular piece of software, where a smaller site would have no one to offer. Parents of school pupils preparing for the Panhellenic exams, university students stuck on a course, and adults picking up a language, an instrument or a sport are all in its core audience. The mix of online and in-person lessons lets a learner choose a local teacher or someone anywhere.
It is a directory, not a managed tutoring service: the learner does the comparing and the contacting, and arranges lessons with the teacher. The site is in Greek throughout, so it is of little use to anyone who does not read Greek, apart from learners of Greek as a foreign language. Anyone wanting a structured course with a set curriculum, recorded lessons or a certificate will not find that here.
